I fell in love with 7 Remake back in 2020 and recently fell in love all over again with FF7 OG. I decided when I got to VII in my playthrough I'd be doing the whole compilation, so here we go with FFVII Advent Children (Complete). Hope you enjoy the reaction, it feels strange finally knowing what happens in 7 and delving into the compilation stuff. I know these stuff is very divisive and some people love it while others hate it. My plan is to just form my own opinion and take it as it comes.
Due to copyright, and trying my best to work around it, the editing is slightly different, from a smaller window of the footage, to slight transparency and frequent cuts. Although I tried my best to make it as watchable as possible all the same, Square are just RELENTLESS with copyright on this thing.
Starting Dirge on stream soon which I'll turn into a video, followed by Crisis Core. Thanks for all the recent support, loads more good stuff to come!

The dog is a wolf, a ‘lone wolf’ to be precise, and represents how Cloud is meant to be a pack animal but has cut himself off from his found family that could help help pull him out of his guilt and depression. Note how his outfit has a medallion of a wolf on the shoulder, and his motorcycle is named ‘Fenrir.’ Like many of Cloud’s visions of Aerith, the wolf is meant to be a metaphorical presence, not a literal flesh-and-blood one.
Interesting note: the only vision of Aerith that is theorized to be ‘real’ is the final one at the church, the rest are all just Cloud’s imagination. Bittersweet to realize that even as he torments himself with guilt over her loss, his imagined projections of her still refuse to blame him. And to twist the knife a little more, her face is not shown in his imagined projections of her, possibly because Cloud doesn’t think he actually deserves to see her again. Thus, when she actually appears for real at the end and smiles at him, he smiles back, showing that he’s finally achieved peace and closure.
Overall, the plot is a little weak, the English voice-acting is uhhh… lacking… in some parts, but the fights are so gorgeous and I enjoy the theme of finding closure, overcoming one’s guilt, and finding joy in life again. That exchange near the end of the final fight hits so hard.
Sephiroth: “Tell me what you cherish most. Give me the pleasure of taking it away.”
Cloud: “You just don’t get it at all. There’s not a thing I *don’t* cherish!”
To hear this from guy who spent the whole film moping about and avoiding his loved ones shows that he’s really picking up the pieces.
I might have to pick up the complete version now, as I really like the added scenes I glimpsed in your video.

Jenova is a mimetic lifeform, based on "The Thing." Not only can she mimic other lifeforms (both appearance and memories), she can infect them with her cells and transform them into copies of herself, and her cells always try to reunite with the main body. Sephiroth inherited those abilities as her "son," which is why all the Sephiroth Copies started to look like him and tried to reunite at the Northern Cave.
Every time Sephiroth dies his cells become part of the Lifestream again, and when the Lifestream emerged to stop Meteor at the end of FFVII, the people it passed through became infected with his cells. That's what Geostigma is; the people thought it was a curse from the Planet, but it was actually Sephiroth's cells infecting everyone so he could try and do another Reunion. The Remnants are lifeforms he created in the Lifestream from his own cells and the memories / appearances of dead souls, since he didn't have enough strength to come back in his true form yet.
There is a prequel novel ("The Kids Are Alright: A Turks Side Story") that tells the story of Kadaj's creation and his first attempt to recover Jenova, which ultimately failed and prompted Sephiroth to produce two more Remnants. Some of the new characters in Remake, (Kyrie, Leslie, and Mireille) were originally from that novel. It's less of an action story and more about Kadaj using his mimetic powers to impersonate and trick other characters while seeking Jenova's remains.

Back in the day I used to hate this movie and only like the action scenes, but as time went on and other members in community pointed out the themes AC is going for I started to more lean towards actually liking it. IMO the first half is a bit weird actually. Scenes just kinda end like cutscenes with no gameplay between them and I think movie actually comes on it's own half way through. Themes of AC are harder to notice on first watch, but once you realize them it starts to make sense. Even Nomura thinks it can be a boring movie if your not looking out for stuff.
    Regarding questions you had.
Let's start with Rufus. The way he survived is under his fathers desk was a button that opens a door under the desk for emergency. President installed it after Rufus when he was a kid to try to impress his father pointed out that there should be a hidden door for escape. President Shinra laughed at him, but he actually listened and installed it. After what happened with Midgar he get's saved and goes through arc that changes his views, but during this time he get's infected by geostigma.
Geostigma is corrupted souls in lifestream by Jenova. Remember in Remake she uses it in one of the phases.
The Sephiroth remenants are clones of Sephiroth and each has some trait of Sephiroth. One is pretty, other is a mommy boy stuff like that.
They come from the crater after Shinra was investigating it at the start of the movie. Nomura intentionaly made them pathetic like that, because they are just incomplete clones. Next time your playing Remake pay attention to the weapons three whispers at the end of the game have.
The wolf is called Fenrir. He follows Cloud around the places that are important to him and he represents his regrest and guilt. Aerith and Zack literally live inside Cloud as memories that he can't let go because he blames himself and wants forgivnes and now that he's happy he's afraid he can lose important things to him again. The idea is Cloud needs to forgive himself. When he get's over this the wolf dissapears and he let's Aerith and Zack go.
Yes the final battle in Remake is made to remind the battle in AC, but it goes deeper then that. It's actually the final 2 battles of OG. You fight Harbinger Sephiroth(in english he was called Bizzaro Sephiroth) by swithching parties and taking out different parts of his body then you fight Sephiroth himself, but the difference in Remake is instead of numbers of your party getting less it's reverse. The power is coming together. Everyone comes together to fight Sephiroth and in Remake when Cloud tries to kill Sephiroth after chasing him down the lifestream he can't do Omnislash, Sephiroth block every attack.
And the most interesting one Sephiroth. So when he died he let lifestream to just swallow his memories thinking he doesn't need them, but then he realized that without memory of who he was he can't reform himself on the surface and the only one who still has connection to him is Cloud. That one small part of Sephiroth that's still in Cloud is how he's still alive and if Cloud dies so will he. This obviously goes into Remake in really cool way I don't wanna spoil now.
I hope I cleared up some stuff. After watching this I recommend checking out the Sephiroth trailer for Smash Bros if you haven't seen it.

    • @Cetra29
      @Cetra29 Před rokem +6

The Sephiroth remnants are not clones ... they are straight up souls he found in the Lifestream which he connected to himself. OtWtaS explains that.

@@-solidsnake- Have you... played Remake? While obviously nothing has been outright stated yet, it's pretty damn heavily implied that Remake isn't the first time through for many of the characters.
Full story spoilers for Remake below.
Cloud's first time meeting Aerith in the Church, _he has a flashback to her death!_ And a lot of the stuff that Sephiroth and Aerith say really make it seem like they both have knowledge they shouldn't.
Heck, that's why the Whispers exist! They're literally trying to enforce the canon storyline on the world, and they appear any time something might threaten that. The whole fight at the end of Remake that ends with their destruction means that the world can go in a new direction, not tied to the old canon.
That's why the first primary scene we see _after_ the destruction of the Whispers is Zack _surviving_ his final stand. We see the exact same scene from Crisis Core, which is Cloud's past, where Zack dies fighting Shinra to save Cloud.
Only, after the Whispers are defeated, and Fate is unbound, Zack manages to win. Zack's death was a pivotal moment in the old story, and him moving forward with Cloud _alive_ is a major flag that this isn't the same story anymore.
Heck, it's the final line of the story of Remake! "The UNKNOWN journey will continue". If it's the same world, following the canon story, how is the journey "unknown"?

Aerith (more what was left of her fading self in the life stream) followed him back and merged/passed on her memories to her past self. The multi sword attack at the end is Cloud's newest version of Omnislash (version 5).
You might have realized at the end of FF7 Remake that Cloud also tried to use his original Omnislash on Sephiroth but was completely blocked and countered as well, because Sephiroth due to time shenanigans knew how to do so, and Cloud had not yet created new versions of Omnislash yet.

First off, great videos and it’s been a blast watching somebody experience this amazing journey for the first time again. I still remember all of my first time emotions to this story. Lifestream White and Lifestream Black (short novellas about Sephiroth and Aerith in the Lifestream between FFVII and Advent Children) will clear a lot of things up for you. I cannot wait for the Crisis Core play through. Keep killing it man! Love the content!
PS: It’s important to note (especially for Remake) that the “500 years later” scene at the end of FFVII is completely devoid of the human race (which has been confirmed by the devs/writers). So at the end of Remake while you’re fighting the giant whisper Harbinger (Jenova) and Nanaki sees that scene and says “This is what happens if we fail today”, it adds A TON of context.

Glad you watched it! This is one of my favorite movies ever. Back in 2006 this was better than anything i've seen in ps2 days. Remember this is 2006 ps2 days dubbed voice acting lol .It doesn't make much sense if you don't know the details, rewatch it later you'll like it more. Cloud became super depressed after the death of Aerith and the end of FF7. All of the crew are happy and moved on, except him. That is why he still lives in the church not with tifa, he wants closure. He truly regrets causing Aerith's death, she was his true love based on FFVII Ultamania Omega. The guys he's fighting are remnants, remember the cloaked guys in remake? that's the last three numbered ones. Sephiroth Died and became part of the lifestream and began corrupting it, causing the stigma. He used Kadaj the remnant with Jenova cells to return. In remake he uses the cloaked remnants to go anywhere, remember Jenova Dreamweaver, it was a clone and Jenova cells just like Kadaj in the movie. If you remember in og FF7 Sephiroth is dead all of that time he was using clones. The water is Holy from Aerith to cure the world and resurrect Cloud who died at the end.

My theory for how Cait Sith worked was that Reeve had some kind of materia that could control him over distances mentally. If I recall Cait even had a manipulate materia on him when he first joins but it’s been awhile since I last played so I’m not 100% sure. Also final fantasy 11 added a puppet master class and one story npc had a puppet she controlled that had a polar opposite personality so I always just thought of Cait like that.

Here's a small random fact for you (and more of a thing to think about when it comes to the remake!)
At the beginning of Advent Children, as we are given a recap of things, a song is played, titled "The Promised Land".
What's interesting about this is that in FF7 Remake, there's actually an orchestral, non vocal version of this track that plays right after the first "meeting" between Sephiroth and Cloud...perhaps hinting that something much deeper is going on with this Sephiroth than we think...
Or MAYBE, it's implying that this is less of a meeting...
    And more of a reunion.

The Remake Fight was 100% a recreation of the AC fight. It's not being explained so well yet but I think that whole final sequence after going into the portal in Remake is like jumping through a series of memories (First you are in Midgar, then you jump to where Meteor falls and Sephiroth sucks it up, then you are 2 years later fighting around a crumbling Shinra building). The plot takes some thinking for the pieces to fit. The short story written by the FF7 writer "On the Way to a Smile" describes this memory lifestream idea and how Geostigma happened as well as what the 3 white-haired guys are supposed to be and their connection to Sephiroth.

I've always had the perspective of _Advent Children_ being somewhat of a clumsy aside to the main story. I remember that a lot of people who used to do those kind of deep dive analysis essays on video games and their companion media were ambivalent towards AD for a long time because of how they "mishandled" Cloud's character arc.
Looking back in hindsight, I think Square Enix did a decent (if somewhat clumsy and overdramatized) job of illustrating Cloud's PTSD/Survivor's Guilt. I think most people forgot about Cloud's mental breakdown at the beginning of Disc 2 and we're too busy making fun of his "emo" characterization post-Advent Children to really notice.
As much of a huge FFVII nerd I was as a little kid, I had no clue about the expanded Compilation of Final Fantasy VII until I was an adult. I always wanted to get my hands on the games and short stories, but never had the money to do so. Plus there was a spell where I stopped playing video games tried to be a "serious" adult with no hobbies or personal interests. lol
But it's been fun watching someone who never had the nostalgia for Final Fantasy as a franchise most people have fall in love with it. Especially VII. There was a brief spell in the 2010s where everyone took turns shitting on VII because if its popularity and oversaturation. But ever since Remake came out, people have got off the hate train and come full circle back to singing its praises. It feels like the story of VII actually grew up alongside the fanbase.
So as an old fan to a new one. Welcome to the club. I'm glad to have you.

It may not be the best movie but god there are some great moments in it. I love the theme of self-forgiveness and Cloud finally moving forward and being able to find happiness in his life after everything that has happened. it has some great action, music, and it still looks great even by todays standards. I personally believe that it was a story that needed to be told and that it has its place in the FFVII Compilation. The fight between Cloud and Sephiroth is one of my favorite fights in media and Cloud using Omnislash Version 5 is one of the coolest moments in any film for me. Add on to the fact that Sephiroth's last words to Cloud may very well have been a promise he kept in Remake and not just the dying words of a defeated villain is just so cool in my opinion. And by god that end scene will never not make me cry like a baby. All the things you mentioned about the scenes being from other Final Fantasy games, you'll have to remember this film came out before any of that. So most of those ideas from it was probably what inspired some of the things in the future like the ff15 swords ect. If you ever get a chance, there was a series of short stories written by the writers of the game and the movie collectively called On the Way to a Smile. It tells the story of what all the characters were doing in between the game and the movie. They came out in Japan originally before the movie came out so they were a primer so you knew what was going on before watching the movie which is why the movie doesn’t go out of its way to explain everything. They weren’t readily available outside of Japan for a long time so for foreign viewers, the movie was confusing. By now you can either buy an official copy or a fan translation. You had me dying last night, you trying to upload this video 😂🤣. I love this movie, even with all the weird plot stuff going on. The fights and designs for the characters are soo good, very ahead of it's time when it came out.
To clear some things up, Geostigma or Seikon Shōkōgun, which the real translation is the Sephiroth Gene, is a disease. This disease was caused by when the meteor came in contact with the planet, the Lifestream came in contact with Jenova cells, spreading a deadly pathogen to the planet. Geostigma will in turn cause sickness, and inevitable death. Cloud in a sense already had GeoStigma , when Jenova cells were already implanted in him. Not only that, he is suffering from Mako poisoning, which is the result under going SOLDIER + JENOVA experimentation. Each SOLDIER is fated for a early death, because there cells are accelerated by Mako, So his case is way worse than everyone else.
The Remnants are just parts of Sephiroth, that represents his most powerful qualities. Sephiroth himself is also in the Lifestream, so he is basically a god in a sense, but he can't fully manifest in the world, so he can create fragments of himself, to hopefully bring himself back.
IMHO, the voices in the Remake is way better than most of them in this movie. I think I only like Sephiroth's more in Advent, Aerith I like more in the movie too, but it fits only in this movie because she's way more mature. Her Remake one is amazing.

It's meant to be watched several times as there are hidden aspects in it. A ton of lore. And yes they fully intended to make the end of Remake simulate AC-- for lore reasons. AC doesn't mention this but Sephiroth actually bound his core to Cloud from the Lifestream which is how he is able to come back to the surface. This is noted in the book On the Way to a Smile which is canon. It takes place before AC.

It's divided into episodes focusing on each character, and within that context it's clear that the movie is "Episode: Cloud."

What Did you think the FF-logo was? It's meteor indeed and the smaller stone above it is Aerith's Holy materia(if I'm not mistaken)

Thanks for watching and reacting. Admittedly, although there are several plotholes in the Compilation storyline, most of your questions can be answered by reading the other novellas on top of what you read before (Episode Shinra, The Maiden Who Travels the Planet Case of Lifestream Black AND White, etc.) As for the lone wolf, I think it is a physical manifestation of Cloud's demons or past or the like.

The plotholes were created by the sequels and prequels.

I didn’t appreciate Advent Children as much when it came out, as I was a kid and I was only interested in the action. Going back and watching it now, I appreciate it a lot more. It is a good epilogue to the amazing story of FF7

The Bahamut for FF7 AC is inspired by FF10s summon that you get to fight later in that game called Bahamut Sin which is a darker pallet swap of the one Yuna gets and is as tough as the one she summons. In FFX you can upgrade the summons. The tougher you make the summons through out the game the harder those fights become. The thing is that since "dark" summons are part of the International version they are optional fights if you don't want the upgraded ultimate weapons for each character.

About 8 years ago this was my introduction to the world of Final Fantasy specifically 7 since I had heard a lot of good things about that one specifically. I definitely enjoyed it as a blind watch and it made me want to play. It wasn't until the release of 7 remake that I actually decided to start my journey. Played it in a bit of a weird order since I played 7 remake and 15 since those are the only two that caught my attention at the time due to the free combat style but I'll definitely look into the others as time goes

My fan theory is that Cloud was Patient Zero for the Stigma, because Sephiroth's dying act was to turn his Jenova cells into infectious bacteria.
The three Remnants, I think, were leftover products of the Sephiroth project, created after his victories in the Wutai war. After he went nuts, the project was shelved and they were put into cryogenic sleep but eventually escaped.

    Hello,
I have enjoyed watching you go through all of the Final Fantasy games, FF7 is the one that got me into the series and made me a fan, i could never get into the older titles because i didn't like the Pixel art, however i still enjoy watching other people play through it.
I know you have twitch and that i can go there to see the full playthroughs but the VODS will eventually be deleted, do you have plans to upload the complete VODs to CZcams for those of us who prefer watching here? Or if you already do have a different channel that does that, i would love to know what it is :)
Second question, do you plan on playing the odd entries of the series? Like Final Fantasy Type-0

All my VODs are always on my VODs CZcams channel linked in the description 👌🏻
And yes I plan to do side entries and spin offs once I’m done with the mainline games, the order will probably just depend on what people want to see most

Wait until you realise that Remake is not referring to a remaster but is Sephiroths intention to remake the timeline.
Once you've finished this, read On The Way To A Smile and replay 7 Remake again.
It makes so much more sense as to Aerith and Sephiroth behave as they do.

I know this movie gets flack at times and I do think Sephiroth “returning” is kind of dumb (even though the fight is really cool), but there is a lot of this I really love. I really like how much of this movie address’s Cloud’s unresolved trauma from all that he has suffered and the last 10 minutes feel like such a comforting conclusion to his arc.
