In this lesson, I show you how to play the song "Highwayman" as covered by The Highwaymen in their 1985 release. I'll show you the chords needed, explain the verse, refrain, intro riff, and some handy walk-ups. Chord diagrams and tabs included. This song was originally released in 1977 by Jimmy Webb, then covered soon after by Glen Campbell. Finally, it was in 1985 when the supergroup The Highwaymen (Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson) made the song quite famous with their version.

Great lesson, Sir. Everything is easy to follow and the lyrics display along with the chords in my opinion is the best on You Tube. The cap on this approach is your singing verse by verse along with that visual, which enables us to follow exactly the integration of a chord and strum with the lyrics. There are many great guitar teachers on here but you do the best job I have seen putting it all together. I had already subscribed to your lessons but after seeing this one, I plan to look at everything you have done. Thanks again.
Awsome dude! Your tuto is perfect. I love this song. First Time I’ve heard it, was played by a street guitarist, early in the morning in Memphis, TE. So thank you so much. Now I can play and sing it at home, where this song, isn.’t as famous as in the US !
This is one of the best videos of this type that I've ever seen! Well done, sir! Well done.
Best tutorial I've ever seen. You get to the point. Great job.
Excellent job with this tutorial. Really enjoyed the structure and how everything came together.
I have a baritone ukulele and this lesson was amazing. You made it so clear. Thank you.
Very simple way to learn a great song! Adding it to the set list.
Your chords in this song seem/sound exactly as played/sung by the Highwaymen. Very clear and inspiring tutelage. Many many Thanks.
Superb lesson - clear instructions and well paced. Thank you for providing the inspiration!
Thank you so much for including the counts of all the chords it really helped
Really cool tutorial. Its one of my favourite songs. I'll put in the work to learn it.
I will never be able to play this song if I don't watch this. Thank you, man! Keep up the good work 👌

Excellent lesson,wonderful song,thank you.
Very good to tutorial! As.a rookie I would appreciate a Constantinople repeat of the separate chords/string for 5 minutes but I'm still trying to get the chord positions locked in so....thank you!

Tank you! Teaching can`t get any better. This is one of my favourite songs and I have had difficulties learning. Now I now why.
Beats per chords are not equal. Here am I coming, new Johnny Cash.
+Olavi thanks for the comment, this makes me quite happy to hear! This was a bit of a tough one for me to wrap my head around, the way they're so loose with how the timing works. Since learning this I've noticed it happens on other songs by these guys too. Look out for more Johnny Cash lessons coming soon!
Awesome vid. Appreciate the work
You’re very welcome!
great lesson!!!
Great lesson thanks!
Love it...thank you !
thanks pal... very helpful
I was worried that this may be a bit of an ambitious song for a beginner but your lesson made it so accessible! I have watched a few lessons by different teachers and yours made the most sense to me! I also appreciate that you look like you're having a good time. I am planning to subscribe and wonder if you might consider doing End of the Line by the Traveling Wilburys and/or Lovers in a Dangerous Time by Bruce Cockburn.
Loved it!! Thank you!!
+Matthew Silver so glad, thanks!!

+Kris Langford 👍👍
You're wonderful!!!!!
I would love to see you teach 'Lee Shore' by David Crosby. I play it, but it's rougher than most songs I do. Your teaching method, by the way, is excellent.
Thanks for this. Great song

I left some horrible comments towards you a few weeks ago. I'm so sorry. My brother had just died and I was taking it out on you and a few others. That was completely wrong of me. I deleted those comments. I was in a horrible state of mind at the time. I just hope you can forgive me. You are a great instructor. I was being an emotional ass-hat and took offense at nearly everything....including you. You didn't deserve that at all. Again, I'm so sorry.
the rythm of the chords in this song has been my downfall for weeks now... hoping this will help. chords are simple enough but cant seem to switch/count right aaarh
Same bro. The song has no real cadence it seems lol
This shits kinda tough lol. My timing gets all fucked up
You probably dont give a shit but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can stream pretty much all of the new series on InstaFlixxer. Been watching with my gf for the last few weeks :)
@Rafael Landen yup, I have been using InstaFlixxer for since december myself :)
Dude you go way to fast
Eat song Dave. You say use a metronome but you don't say what to set it to. Can you help. Many thanks
Good, but not great, a view voice wobbles, a bit nervy, talk to Fast. Take a tug or two on a one Skinner before you start.🙂🙂🙂Would like to request Kate Wolfs Across the Great Divide.✌
