  • This was such a fun episode to shoot! My friend Frankie has built an over the top Grand Natonal powered by a blown LSX, fully caged, suspension, etc. This is a full blown race car that is streetable and street legal. Watch us drift it, do donuts and take a walk through the radical details of this build.
    Enjoy!!

    I had 2 GN sleepers back in the early 90s:
    modded '87 Turbo T with chrome trimming, bench seat, column shifter' and a 84 Cutlass with full 87 GN modded drivetrain.
    I rarely had anything pass me from 0 to 100 on the street with the 3:73 gears and worked 200R4.

    *2:40** Let what he said about the buick turbo motor blowing up soak in, that's crazy. I've had 3 turbo buicks, 86 GN, 87 Turbo T and a 1991 gmc sylcone which is basically an S-10 with a grand national engine and I've over boosted and blew up 2 engines but it's always the head gaskets to go on mine. I was running 30 lbs of boost on my 87 turbo t and the head gasket failed which is why I never ran the cometic head gaskets on these engines. Those cometic head gaskets are very good and strong but if you detonate the engine from over boosting or running it too lean they will be hard to blow out and cause the blast to damage something else like the block or piston, etc. Much easier to just replace the gaskets than have to find a new engine.*

    Hate to be a killjoy but it's just not a Grand National without the turbo v6. America has always loved an underdog and nobody gave the original Grand National any respect until it was kicking everybody's ass at the track who had a V8. And news flash, they were also crap 80's GM cars at their core - only with a potent drive train for the day. 800hp is about the limit for the 3.8 without big money being spent, if you want more than that in a steetable / reliable package, boosted LS is the way to go. Ruined this car with a v8......I hate it when people do these cars that are iconic by cars with a la motor.....not a gan of this car......The v8 ruined it for me and would much rather see one with the original setup.....

    Chevy power? If you wanted a Monte Carlo, why not just buy one instead of ruining a GN?

      When the motor went he swapped it rather than rebuilding

    What a waste

    • @AutotopiaLA
      @AutotopiaLA  Před 3 lety

      Why? The original motor blew up so he went all in. Chassis, cage, sequential, big power...not understanding the waste part personally

    As an owner of a Grand National, I can assure you it ain't one. Just a hot rod'd G body. I'm ashamed that I gave you a view.
    I must admit I still don't get the fascination of drifting. Lots of burned up tires & smoke. I thought you Millennials cared about the environment? I guess that stops when it comes to your playtime, right?

      First off...I’m 54 so I’m not a millennial. 2nd is sorry for your shame...we shoot vehicles that we think are cool builds regardless of others opinions. Call it what you want, this build goes deeper than most are willing to go
