I interpretated this song in my own way. I think it's about someone who has lost a lover and someone else, using cups and bowls as a metaphor to someone's life. This is because you can see this in "Father take away this cup" and "because if he had i'd be dead", as that person waits for God to end their life. And my main theory was just because of the lines "You and him who drank it first", as their life being taken away when it wasn't time (aka Dying in an accident or something). And "i'm nowhere and you're everything" could be that person having memories with their loved one triggering because everything they see reminds them of the deceased one. Well, this song is pretty sad if you see it that way.
the rhythm and vocal stylings sound pop influenced like artists like jason mraz. not pop like justin timberlake, maybe vocally but i do believe thats what he means. but does genre really matter if it sounds good?? this song has a bit of everything in one solid package. enjoy it :)
He just GETS IT, ya know?
This song is so musically interesting.
I love when I fall upon genuine talent like this, what soul!
Sweetest song I've heard in a while.
I listened to this when my sister died and the shear awesomeness brought me through.
this song should have more views. Chris Thile is dope
That mandolin doe.
I can't stop listening to this song! I'll go and listen to some Nickel Creek or Mumford and Sons or Punch Brothers, but I always end up back here.
Well minus Mumford, Chris is the common denominator there, so it makes sense.
That mandolin. Damn

This is the new best song in the world.
Breathtakingly simple and beautiful.
