  • Does your pattern instructions call for stay stitching? You can do it! Stay stitching is a single line of stitching through one layer of fabric that prevents it from stretching during the construction process. Stay stitches are commonly called for on fabrics that are cut on a bias because they tend to stretch and distort more than fabrics that are cut on the grain. They are also commonly called for on curved hems like necklines. Unlike basting stitches, stay stitches are not removed, but they're invisible in the finished garment.
