Would I be correct in assuming that in making a bespoke suit they would use basting stitches? I think of the scenes in movies where they have some dude in some unfinished looking mess where they take markings and such.
Tailors would use a combination of stitches I think. They know, from all their careful measuring certain seams are going to be fine and others might need adjusting. They also use a lot of hand stitches which they are super fast at sewing on a flat surface. In my next life, I will study to be a tailor - one for this century's styles - not for 18th-century menswear (did that)
