I work at a kindergarten in Iceland (4-6 y.o.) and almost all the kids in my class love it, and so do my parents who are closing in on 60. And no, it's not satanic or anti-religious at all. It's an anticapitalist satire. Harsh vocals are an acquired taste in general, for sure, but I think they fit perfectly into the atmosphere of this song

Hatrið Mun Sigra - Hate Will Prevail. The songs lyrics are a commentary that could very easily be interpreted as a critique on what Europe or even Eurovision has become, specifically the prophetic line "Evropa hrynja" which translates to "Europe collapses". In recent years we've seen Brexit, the Greek debt crisis, Refugee crisis and rise of far-right elements into the mainstream. In Eurovision the competition still lauded as a safe space has been held in countries with poor records of human rights, rife with corruption and restricted political freedoms, Azerbaijan, Russia, Ukraine and now Israel. The performance is as uncomfortable to watch as is these facts. Hate will Prevail.

@@prakkari I don't think it's open for interpretation as much as it is that people don't always get the point. Some people just hear "hate will prevail" and don't realize they're actually peace loving neo hippies who think the world needs more love. The song is a warning. It's not "Yay. Hate will prevail". It's "Sad face. Hate will prevail."

  • @Mephzice
    @Mephzice Před 5 lety +217

This song is a warning, a warning to Europe that if we keep on the same path Hatred will win. Don't know the band members personally or anything but reading the lyrics and listening to one of their interviews it sounds like it's anti-populism rise of right wing in Europe. Hatari are after all very sarcastic in their lyrics usually. The harsh vocals are singing from the point of view of a tyrannical overlord while the smoother vocals are singing for the general downtrodden public.

This song is a satire against hatred, hate mongering, hate speech, persecution and prejudice. The name of the song in English is "Hatred Will Prevail" (which happened in the last presidential election in USA for example) and the name of the band is "Haters" Some hate filled people in Israel look at this song as hate against Jews but that's so far from the truth! There is absolutely nothing there that displays hate against anything else than hate itself :)

Even some of their new Eurovision-acquired fans don't really seem to grasp it and just like it because it's different, like it's a novelty act, especially when they have a need to compare it. This song is actually about love and if you forget to love hate will prevail. So it’s quite ironic that you say that you have to go to church because you listend to there song. They didn’t make this song to sell or make it advertising friendly, it’s art and they don’t want the heartless capitalists to get a grip of them because capital is humanities poison. If we don’t love and forget to love, hate will prevail. and that is there message. So if you don’t stand by the fact that we need to stop judging and embrace diversity and just love each other then I don’t know what I could think about you.

No I totally disagree, it has nothing to do with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
It has all to do with corporate and government corruption and how this corruption
poisons society. Basically the message is all the evil needs to succeed is for good people to do nothing. Lots of people consider themselves to be good people by doing nothing bad.
Doing nothing bad is not enough to make you a good person, it takes courage to be good.
It takes courage to face the bad. Love is the answer and cure. If people stop loving each other
what will fill that emotional void ? Perhaps nothing at first, then distrust, then hate.

this thread kinda summarises the controversy - www.reddit.com/r/eurovision/comments/aom1zj/iceland_hatari_say_theyre_only_competing_so_that/
furthermore, this video points out they're sweeties normally - czcams.com/video/ZdtIvkY4fQE/video.html&ab_channel=NerdyBeauty13
I call the kooky trinity mahmood, hatari, and conan - as in they've all go something a little special

I love the authenticity of it - fusing the Nordic love of Rock and Techno with the Icelandic Sigur Ros influence. One of my perfect 10s this year.

It'll have a lot of appeal in Germany and Eastern Europe too, where EBM (electronic body music, the name of this genre) is quite popular.

Hate will prevail unless we rise from the ashes united as one. Sounds legit to me. Our kids are staring disaster in the face. The last thing they need is a spoonfull of sugar to chase down an overdose of one opiate of the masses or other.

Btw the song is about how the hate will win and how europe will crumble...with more depressing themes

I'm not agree with message. Cos if not capitalism than socjalism/communism.
I'm from Poland and I was born in true communist country ruled bu USSR. You don't fook want to be in our shoes. West Europ socjalist I see as spoiled children fooking indoor cats.
But song and performance is amaizing. Hope Iceland will be in top 5 they deserve!

There are other options than rampant capitalism or communism. That are not the only options available. To think that is a logical fallacy of the worst order. Capitalism as it´s practised now is ruining our nature and the earth. We have no planet b. Our survival as species is seriously compromised by capitalism wich is gone totally bonkers and the best example of that is the increasingly bigger capitalistic military spending and warfare. We have to stop polluting the earth now.

@@unnursturlaugsdottir8215 Capitalism as such is not a bad thing. Only capitalism as it is practiced now is not good at all. It needs to be used in the right way.
