Mentioning the mantle opened my eyes a bit more with the lore. The forerunners really wanted to hold the mantle of responsibility, and the flood was the arch nemesis of this responsibility. Them activating the rings was direct proof that they were unworthy for the mantle. Makes me wonder if humanity would've won against the flood if they were at their full strength

Yep, the Forerunners have fucked up countless times and only make matters worse. They’re the ones who started the whole war in the first place. If the Forerunners gets some balls, man the fuck up, and let the Precusors give the Mantle of Responsibility to Humanity instead of them then the Flood would never be invented.

The halo 2 game is the most fantastic and the most beautiful game I've ever played. I love the story and the way the game ends.. Halo 2 is an artificial game that will aways be the greatest game of all history.
It's kinda late, So I hope you get this question. When Faber Fired Omega Halo, it was pointed at Path Kethona. Do you think those forerunners survived? After all, it was in a completely different galaxy. After all this time, something tells me they are even MORE advanced than the original forerunners were. If you remember, they had their own biological domain. They didn't need their ancillas to connect to it. So theoretically, they're still out there... right?
Side thing- Do you think any of the other surviving forerunners found cryptums before their death? It makes sense to me if they did, and they may be one of our only shots at taking down Cortanas Guardians in Halo 6. IMO they've already kinda shunned the forerunners enough in the past Halo Games, we need some clarification!
When the Librarian went to Path Kethona to try to find a way to defeat the Flood. All she found was primitive Forerunner. When Omega Halo fired it wiped out all of the Path Kethona Forerunner.
@@deadlyknights1119 the book silentium even says as much near the end of the book, faber firing that halo killed everything in that galaxy. besides, most of what was there were derelict battlefields leftover from the precursor war.

Amazing series man. Really helped me nail down everything that happened in the forerunner trilogy. For a suggested topic I still thing it would be awesome to hear your theory on how what the librarian said in halo 4 to John 117 would play out in halo 6.

Mendicant isn't something Cortana can just get a hold of, not even The Forerunners could control him, he joined the flood on his own choice, Mendicant makes his own choices and is self aware it's why they made Offensive Bias and didn't give Offensive free will like Mendicant because free will can be a bad thing for an AI to have (Terminator for example give AI free will and intelligence greater then the persons who made it, well you're asking for bad shit to happen) Mendicant after years and years of being left to only think of what he did and the consequences brought on by he betrayal, at this point he'd try to fix what he did by joining the flood and join the Reclaimers aka Humans, so it'd be stupid for Cortana to try, it'll end with her lowering her odds of winning.

Can someone explain what the Gravemind meant when he said "I am a monument to all your sins"? Before looking into the EU I assumed it was that the flood was created by humanity. To a degree I suppose it's true since they recovered the dust and started trying to utilise it but really isn't the flood the fault of the Forerunners for trying to destroy the Precursors?
I’m late but I guess it’s because the Master chief killed so many things and the flood got it and turned it into biomass so they became part of the gravemind.
This makes me feel like 343 Industries NEEDS to reinvent the Flood and make them more terrifying.
-Faster Mutations
-Mutated individuals move 2-3 times faster
-Being swiped by their tentacles results in insta-death or knock-out of energy-shields on the first swipe, death on the 2nd
-More mutation bugs should be present (E.G. their first appearance in Halo: Combat Evolved, the bug room)
-Give back all infected individuals to rapidly climb walls like they could in Halo 2
-New infected forms capable of flight and clinging onto you like the bugs

Really quick nitpick, the bugs are infection forms, I just wanted to mention that since it is close to Buggers which are the Drones that are impossible to kill in 2, 3, and ODST.

anyone else think they should make a halo where you play as the person that activated the rings (chiefs first form) where you have to fight your way to a base then rally troops and form the ark while locking down planets and collecting DNA then it ends when you have to make the ultimate sacrifice pulling the lever "destroying the flood"?

We don't know what happened to Offensive Bias after the array was fired. In Rebirth he was never mentioned. As far as we know he was deconstructed, not likely but possible. They, in a way, fixed mendicant bias by locking his processes and never allowing him the kind of freedom he once had...only atonement...

My question: How did the indexed species and the last forerunners escape the neuron destroying waves of the halos? I mean, can it be shielded? If so, then the flood should have known, having consumed so much knowledge and biomass
The Didact was suspended in stasis. And nothing survived. The forerunners programmed AI's to reseed the galaxy with life utilizing the species indexed by the Librarian. The Gravemind's biomass was left immobilised by the halo array firing because it specifically shuts down the nervous system, thus while it knew, without the ability to pilot ships or travel because it had no hosts it went dormant. Also the Gravemind on Delta Halo was formed a few thousand years after the firing of the halos by some unknown but probably extragalactic species meddling on the ring.
So what happened to Offensive bias? If mendicant can supposedly live to the present so can he right?

It was supposed to kill everything with a nervous system so that killed everything except the flood parasite itself and the spores it was supposed to kill all of the flood hosts and starve the parasites which would mean there's nothing producing the flood spores but that obviously didn't work completely with flood on the halo arrays
It killed the flood's neural system.
It basically starves the flood on a system (the whole galaxy) scale and weakens the flood to the point where they really need to eat and they die quickly after (those that survive the rings firepower).
This is my old understanding of the rings power, I am trying to catch up on lore before infinite drops

I personally believe Bungie should have made a Forerunner-Flood war spin-off game. I really loved what they did with ODST and Reach and i think they shouldn't have stopped there. Because Reach was a tribute to the Human-Covenant war, i think Bungie should have made one last game about The Forerunner-Flood war. It would truly bring the series full circle by showing the fans both era's and telling the full picture. I believe Bungie was planning to do this, but later decided not to. Wich is a shame, because i feel they never truly completed the series. What do you think about this?

Mendicant is still locked away. But two of his pieces could have been reconnected when high charity landed on the ark. Mendicant was trying to contact chief during halo 3 through the terminals.

Yes, but in this video I got the impression that Omega Halo fired some sort of "beam" that fried the Flood directly in front of it, almost like a Death Star laser that only targets Flood. I'm not saying that is what happened, that's just what it sounded like in the video.
Jhan919 Well, Omega Halo was the first, back when the forerunner's thought they could kill the flood completely with their fleets and all that. The other Halos were devoted to starving it. I thought you were talking about the array, not Omega, sorry about that.

Is there a way to reverse the flood - sort of like a cure. Like the precursor flood (original ones) became that dust again somehow might be able to resurrect as Precursors or is that just a stretch of logic?
No the canisters of powder were corrupted. What was suppose to happen was those that turned into this powder form were suppose to recompose themselves at a later date..but after almost 9 million years..that wasn't the case. The only hope of the precursors coming back is if some (as told in the novels) truly did flee beyond the forerunner's reach.

Honestly no idea, we know next to nothing about the Precursors so it's all just a guessing game. Before Ancient Humanity were eradicated, they were working on a cure but it was destroyed along with them, so who knows how far down the line they were. The Primordial did say the Flood is incurable, however, but it may have just been saying that to incite fear in the Forerunners.
You are right that they were working on a cure but if we remember - the flood retreated... it gave the impression that it was cured by humanity. They played the long game and when the forerunners saw that humans had successfully beat the flood or appeared to beat them. The forerunners went after humanity and their knowledge of the flood when the flood returned.
Now it is possible that the Primordial lied but seeing as he had nothing to gain in the matter it would have made sense for him to break the spirit of the forerunners because he knew in the end...they'd have to pull the trigger and destroy themselves and every living being in the galaxy.
The only thing that's got me confused is the gravemind had mentioned that the organon and by extension the domain would be destroyed when the array fired... so after 100,000 years either SOMEONE is repairing it.. (that isn't cortana) or... the gravemind was wrong and it only severely damaged it and has been slowly healing over the last 100,000 years. Maybe the only reason why forerunners were allowed to use the domain was because there was an anchor type device (the organon) that allowed it to be projected in this dimension and without it, it only resides in slip space... i really wish 343 would elaborate on the domain and how it works.. as so much is left to the unknown

i remember reading the Forerunner Saga and getting confused if they were originally built to fight the Flood
Both arrays were built before, most of the old, 12 ring array was destroyed during the Forerunner-Flood War.

+Oliver Mendonca, the first array of 12 Halos were designed to be a more effective version of their old strategy, purging a stellar system of life, and doing so more quickly than bombardments, and without the collateral damage one gets with collapsing stars. They proved to be insufficient for combatting the Flood, which is why the second Ark and Halo Array were constructed, having the power to purge the galaxy of all organic life, so that only the specimens saved on the Arks would survive, and be used to reseed the galaxy.
