To tell you the truth the ending where lily survive the fall and scream for help is the one that got to me the most

I just realized the name of the game is "Lily's Well" and has a double meaning. Obviously it refers to the well that we climb down during the game, but the original Lily is also "well" as in she's safe and alive. At least in the true ending.
it could also mean that whatever hurts lily or kills her, there will always be another one of her made. she’ll always be okay, because she doesnt truly die as long as theres more of her made
I think the biggest reason for the name is because in the initial title, because of the font that makes the W look like an H, which turns the title into ''Lilly Hell''

In my own interpretation, especially from the end quote "Lily needed this hug for a long time," is that it can also be applied to growing up with your childhood trauma. I think we all wish we could go back and hug our younger selves and tell them it ended up being okay and that what happened wasn't their fault. Could totally not have been the dev's intention whatsoever, but it's a comforting thought for me.
OG lily looks like a full blown scene queen and I am LIVING for it
In case anyone is curious, based on how much time Lily spent falling down the well, the well is a bit over 1000 meters deep. In the first ending, she would be traveling at around 140 meters/second. Impressive how she’s able to make 1000 meters of rope in a single night.

My best guess with this story is the Original Lily was abused in some way by her father, but the cloning experiments happened after she left home. By the dialogue, she knew her father did something with science/genetics, but didn't know it was experiments with clones of her. It's likely based on the way Original Lily dresses that she was a "bad kid" and her father is trying to make the best version of her with the clones; the "best" being one who is obedient and without the lasting trauma. In some sick way, he might actually feel remorse for his actions and doesn't want the new Lily to have to remember what he's done. Erasing one's original sins by creating exponentially more. Fucked up, but really creative and enjoyable game. Especially loved the true ending with the house fire and chocolate chip pancakes! =D
Yeah, and everytime he says to be a "good girl" and "obey daddy" shows that he was abusing her in some way
And when we see Ma memories and she says "she's been telling you things that would've made you sick a year ago" is really sus too

in the archives, it's very heavily implied that the original Lily is the one who wrote a college paper on azoth, which is what got lily's papa into the cloning thing.
Geez. All of these deaths are just brutal and I feel so bad for every time she has to feel this pain and all the stresses and tension was at it's peak in the true absolute ending as I was worried she was still going to be killed but once certain events happened like seeing Lily smile for once when talking on the phone, seeing that the original Lily was telling the truth and actually made it, and especially the final shot of them getting their pancakes was just heartwarming and just what I needed after seeing all the other deaths
As the dev said in the credits, you deserve this good ending.
6:10 It could easily be a replica of Lily's room in the lab since it's kinda hard that the entire house is inside the well, like an inception thing.

There’s a scene where one of the previous Lilly’s bodies is visible in the corner, the 10-rope ending, I believe. If you restart or leave the area and come back, the body is gone. With what Lilly’s Papa and his team mentioned about collecting meat for the bodies, and the frequency at which new Lilly’s are ‘born,’ I theorize he began collecting the remains of the Well Lillys to create new ones. The four in the lab are obviously failed attempts at making Lillys, but the one the player uses repeatedly could also be flawed, as she continues to collect rope for the well even before Papa explains what he wants her to do: Behave. He’s probably had to deal with Lillys finding their way to the lab before, or he would have stayed home to monitor the progress of his ‘perfect’ Lilly (or I believe he would). Predictions and patterns caused him to set books, safes, vines, failed Lillys in the forest; he wanted to see how long it took for his ‘perfect’ Lilly to become perfect, to experience all types of pain and death so she’d tie it with the well.
The hair constantly spreading between ending spots could be the Azoth trying to find the original Lilly; it spreads with each death, eventually entering the house, but it’s much more apparent when the original Lilly arrives.
The lamp could also be a trap by Papa to make Lilly slip and associate it with death by falling, or a marker set by a previous Lilly either to remember how far her last descent was, or to warn the other Lillys that it could be the farthest way down for the quickest, least-painful death.

I've always thought about how the name of the game when you are on menu can be ''Lily's well'' or ''Lily's hell'' i actually think that was proposital from the game designers.
My theory is, every iteration of lily hears the first iteration's screams because they were recorded by papa, every one of them die. The true ending is not going into the well. Honestly this game is morbid as fuck.
For what i remember her father tells her that when one of the lilys fell they discovered that when something horrible happens her mind forgets but her soul doesnt, so every time she dies her soul slowly 'learns' how to be a good girl, so the people recorded the scream for help and started to make tests, so in my opinion, everytime her father says that he has to go to his job its actually a sign to start the tests, then someone after some time plays the record and the next lily goes to help, until she doesnt and becomes the best subject ever
@@doctorfear9241 and I find his experiment WORSE than Bondrewd's actions (Bondrewed ultimately loved his kids and treated them well, gave them the tools to succeed as well. What he did to each kid (who were to die anyway without help) he had already done to himself. I hate him but understand him simultaneously...Lily's dad on the other hand is more selfish)

There's a bonus bad ending that I think they added with the update for all of Lilly's dresses. There's a trash can outside the house you can use to throw away rope material if you accidentally pick up any bad material, but if you use it to trash ALL the material, papa activates the trash can to kill Lilly (which basically a softlock prevention).

I do agree that the abominations are failed attempts at creating Lily, but I don’t think that they count towards the Lily version counter. If you get to the bottom of the well in the first attempt Papa will still talk about a Lily that fell before you, in fact, a Lily has to have fallen before you for you to hear screams from the well. So I think you are just thrown into the game at version 5, probably because that is the point where the Lily experiment became formulaic and set in stone so that every attempt can play out the same.
there aren't only four abominations, there are at least 5, or 6 because of the one in the forest, but those monster clones don't count as a lily version

I still don't understand why the original escaped Lily didn't call the cops or whatever, and just let her dad do his thing even though she knew.
Possibly because her Father started doing the experiments after she moved away or something? He could have begun doing these so he would never lose Lily or something along those lines. I don't really think theres an intended explanation but thats probably the most likely thing
The original Lily was likely abused or experimented on but not by cloning. The cloning came after the mom's death and the original's escape.
The whole city is a cult. The students are also in the cloning and murdering kids thing, you can find more about it reading the letters.

@@gaigeriel I think the majority of Papa's work may have been theoretical at the time, he probably talked about it a lot which is why she knows so much about it but it sounds like the Lily's was his first actual success. And he didn't start creating the Lily's till after original Lily left.
The code at the end, I recognized as base64. So I spent some time decoding it.

It is tied to another game made by the same creator, featuring a woman named the Stardust Witch. I will not spoil the details, but she is a horrible, horrible person, who would probably endorse Antonio’s deeds… were it not for the fact that she is too sophisticated for such madness.

She's suppose to be the rebellious girl. Foul mouthed, independent enough to drive and has friends who cherish her so she's contrast to the clone Lilys. She grew up to be someone whom her father would never approve of but is so much happier than being a abused experiment. Her goth fashion and dyed hair looks ridiculous for someone who's two years past her teenage years but fitting for a daughter of a man who refuses to accept her in his reality. So much that he had made clones of her and killed over 20 times just to get the perfect savescum'd Lily. What a story.

I really like this video. I've seen ManlyBadassHero play through this, so there were no surprises for me here; but I appreciate how you condensed everything. Something that never made sense to me was that random creature in the woods. Pretty much everything else ties together throughout the story, but not some carnivorous beast that speaks English. I'm so glad this game has got a happy ending. I was so expecting some sad twisted ending that happens in so many games (for better or worse), and I am just so glad to know that Lily is well.

Well, since Azoth is this alchemical essence of life or the main component of transformation and there is a part of the game where they refer to the lab workers as alchemists, it is safe to assume that it is the thing from which they can create life. Think of it as a usable form of a philosopher's stone. The pink hair-like strands are just this game's interpretation of the concept of Azoth.
