    I knew about this from you and others but was unaware that it would still happen when closing the bolt with the release! Wow! Does this rotating bolt jump out of battery after being slammed home? Incredible! Not a problem with my old Auto-5 Belgian made Brownings! Sorry for your loss Randy!

      @RandyWakeman  Před 9 měsíci +2

      If you step in a hole and so forth, the bolt can jostle itself out of battery, just from walking briskly. .

    Yeah, i can confirm NOT a myth. I have a SBE II that I've owned forever. I like the gun, but occasionally "click" and the bird escapes without even being frightened. I carry a fabarm now, the SBEII stays in the case as a back up gun.

    Randy, thanks for all the reviews and shotgun information you put out. I bought a Masai Mara a few years back, it jammed bad, sent it back and got a new one in return from Retay. Its still in the box, I lost trust in it. Back to my Benelli SuperBlack Eagle 2 for my waterfowl hunts. I no longer try to switch out duck loads for goose loads in the heat of the battle. too many "clicks" on big Canadas. Switched to Boss Shells and I usually hunt both with their 3/5 load with pretty good results. If I'm targeting big geese, I switch to number 2 Bismuth for the day.

      It is unfortunate that Retay has ridiculously jacked up their prices and made goofy claims like "20% more pellets on target." They also do not stand behind their product particularly well. A shame.

    And once again, thank you for introducing me to the L4S. Now, If I could just find somewhere to buy a spare piston in Canada... just in case that elastomer ever craps itself.

    Cannot "forward assist" bolt once bolt is forward and in unlocked position.
    Made a bucket-list buy of new-in-box SBE II from an estate auction, August of '22. My first non-wood stock, non-Berreta gas gun variant auto loader. Hunted waterfowl last two seasons. Silently sliding a goose load into chamber while geese coming to decoys used to be common practice.
    Too many "clicks", (more than zero). I can see what happens. Slide bolt forward slowly, bolt eventually stops moving forward, but bolt does not rotate to lock. To lock, bolt needs to be traveling forward with enough inertia to rotate into barrel tennon.
    Unlike my training on the M-16 rifle suggested, NO amount of pressure applied to the back of the bolt handle provides "forward assist". The bolt is fixed in the UNLOCKED position. I was swapping shells and tapping forward on bolt handle, but with no effect.
    The bolt handle must be pulled back and quickly released for enough inertia to rotate bolt.
    Also "clicked" once when I snagged bolt handle on brush while going up to shoot. I heard/felt it snag.
    It would be nice to have a conversion to "clickless" provided by Benelli. This won't happen.
    Not swapping chambered shell is a solution in most instances. Snagging or bumping the bolt into an unlocked position for duck or pheasant hunting is still an issue.

    I have an SBE II that is probably 20 years old and never had the problem. I wasn't aware of it until I saw it on the internet. I must confess that it's a duck/pheasant gun only using magnums and I've never chambered the first round using anything other than the button on the receiver from an open locked bolt.

      That's the same way I load *all* semi-autos, including this M2. The 20 gauges seem to be more prone to this, but it happens. Naturally, things like this tend to happen at the worst times. It is never particularly annoying. . . until you experience yourself.

      Well, if it were me, unless it was crummy weather, I'd be carrying the Fabram with the Apex 57 yard pheasant killers. Leave the autos for the cold, rainy, muddy days, when you should be inside looking out, telling yourself how wise you are.@@RandyWakeman

    Every Benelli we take pheasant hunting has this happen at least once.

    Benelli guns are very nice and very expensive one shot pieces of junk in the pheasant field. I have seen it countless times over the last two decades or so. I hope beneli actually did fix this major flaw in their design.
    For what it is worth, i had a retay. It wouldn't cycle pheasant loads worth anything and I traded it in while on my pheasant hunting trip in south Dakota.

    Add the Beretta autos as also capable clickers, the rotating head a blessing and a heart breaker if you ride/follow the action closed.

      No such problem with Beretta A302 / A303 / AL390, and Browning B-80 models.

    Exactly it is NOT a myth. But Retay fixed it. Buy Retay and stop the Benelli Click.

      @RandyWakeman  Před 9 měsíci +3

      Actually, Benelli addressed it first with the "Easy Locking Bolt System" (Ethos / SBE3). Retay has their own problems: www.chuckhawks.com/RetayArmsDogof2023.html .

      I have both a 12 gauge and 20 gauge Montefeltro that I have used for over 10 years in the field and on the clays course. I have never had the click and I have purposely tried to get both guns to do it. It has never happened.

      Have a Monte and an M2,,. Only one time with the M2 when I eased the bolt shut instead of slamming it. Other than that 100 percent reliable and love the guns.
