"Fran Bow is a creepy adventure game that tells the story of Fran, a young girl struggling with a mental disorder and an unfair destiny.
After witnessing the gruesome and mysterious loss of her parents, found dismembered at their home, Fran rushes into the woods, together with her only friend, Mr. Midnight, a black cat that Fran had previously received as a present from her parents.
In the forest, Fran goes into shock over the loss of her parents and when she recovers, she’s at Oswald Asylum, an oppressive mental institution for children, and Mr. Midnight is nowhere to be found.
After having a dream about her beloved cat, Fran decides to escape from the mental institution to find him and go back home to Aunt Grace, her only living relative.

I got the game yesterday and I tried to use the drugged cinnamon bun on the guard but the game kept saying that that wasn't an option

"My guess is that if you are playing the default (new) version of the game, you probably haven't tried to simply talk with the guard and/or haven't created the Grab-O-Matic 2000 and tried to get the key hanging near the guard yet. Once you do those two things, you'll have better luck using the drugged cinnamon bun. If you haven't done those things, then you haven't yet done exactly what is required."

respectfully... am i the only one who felt underwhelmed about this? i was so excited when i was watching the part in the asylum but around the end it just got so confusing and it felt like the theme changed entirely. though im not sure if this is just because of my terrible capabilities of understanding the story
cant edit the comment for some reason but i also watched a playthrough of little misfortune and saw tons of comments mentioning how much creepier fran bow is. i feel like that is not true at all? little misfortune made me feel way more disturbed and seemed more impactful than fran bow. i was also looking forward to watching fran bow because of another bunch of people saying that the concepts of the different realities, monsters etc. were actually explained more in fran bow, but honestly watching it made me feel way more confused than after watching little misfortune. going to watch a whole explanation video on the lore as soon as possible though so hopefully my opinion will change to the better
watched an explanation vid! definitely rounded it up and cleared the story up a bit for me but my opinion still stands. ive listened to the theory that all the realms are just fran hallucinating, that she is actually crazy and really went insane, which would seem like an interpretation that could satisfy me more. however, that seems obviously unlikely if you look into little misfortune and how it literally proves that the other realities are real. still a great game nonetheless, but i was expecting something different
I agree with you, honestly I am glad to see someome else on the same page, because I don't get what the hype is about. It's definitely a well made game and interesting things happen I guess, but none of it really connects or makes sense. I think maybe there is just too much going on to where I don't know what the focus is or what the central theme is supposed to be. At least with Little Misfortune it stayed very focused on Misfortune's "adventure" with Morgo and there is a clear progression of the story as Morgo gets darker and creepier and Benjamin gets more involved. And overall it just makes so much more sense coming in knowing nothing you can follow it more or less. Idk what is going on in 80% of Fran Bow or what it means. And I wanna say that it's a good sign that there is so much care and deeper meaning in it or whatever, but it is personally a pet peeve of mine when a story gets so hung up on symbolism and metaphors and stuff that it forgets to just... be a story. It comes off as pretentious because it cannot be simply enjoyed as entertainment its gotta be really confusing and drive you nuts.
Sorry if I sound harsh in any way, once again I want to respect this game for what it is but it's also just kinda not my thing.

@@allyexpress combine the cane with the hook, then combine that with the pink sash. next you'll attempt to get the keys with the grab-o-matic but the guard will take it. then you'll give him the drugged cake as an apology. once he's asleep, grab ur grab-o-matic back and get the keys

How is anyone supqtto ever complete so many fans without video or written assistance? I guess they were designed to have to do this? I mean I trying everything I can possibly think of spend 45 months to hours trying to figure what to do next out in some games. I really think more developers should watch n multiple people who are not working on the game play it to see how people interact the game so they can see what design problems. It’s very easy to understand things when you’re the one making it but what about the people that are actually going to play your game? Like Elden Ring for example can you image trying to complete that game without outside help telling you what to do next to progress?
