LOST IN SPACE - Reluctant Stowaway - Reboot - CGI

  • This CGI video is a re-imagining of the LOST IN SPACE episode - “The Reluctant Stowaway” first aired in 1965. It’s not a full episode but just the beginning to give you a feeling of what direction the series may have taken. After watching this I can imagine a few possibilities…
    I have given this “new” episode a new title - SABOTAGE.
    In this short presentation, you will see obvious similarities and some big differences. Also, I used this as an opportunity to study some different effects and to work on the character models a bit.
    I hope you enjoy some of the expanded set pieces.

    1st season was gold. The Robot was scary, impersonal, the Doctor was evil, albeit clumsy, but not yet a buffoon he would later become.

      I only recently got to see the pilot and older episodes, and I'd have to agree that they were much better written. No wonder Guy Williams and other main characters got got annoyed at the later scripts.

      I disagree, think Dr. Smith was actually a more fun character later when his buffoonery caused the crew all sorts of challenges. I wouldn't change a thing! The silliness added to the show's charm, at least for me. But I like the CGI work here.

    Phil, you have done a wonderful job, especially for someone just learning Poser.
    You have spent MUCH time building your 3D sets and you've added so much more to the show as well as fixed mistakes like the Robot not appearing in that initial lower deck pan.
    I've watch your animations and your skills growing.
    Your work shows the potential of a professional production for LIS of this 3D nature.
    Using synthesised speech and body models done effectively (Furious 7) we could do a proper Reboot of LIS from the beginning, as a serious show using the original characters liikenesses.
    I look forward to your next episode, bro.

    • @sfden50
      @sfden50 Před 6 lety +5

      The campiness and general buffoonery of the 2nd and 3rd seasons really ruined it for me. Like many fans, I was crazy about much of 1st season. The b/w photography somehow add to the almost noir feel of a lot of the 1st season.

    • @KneelB4Bacon
      @KneelB4Bacon Před 6 lety +5

      I really loved the first season, too. It felt like they were trying to do a real science fiction show. But Lost in Space was competing with the TV version of "Batman" at the time. I think Irwin Allen decided that he wanted to take the show in a really campy direction to compete with that. He may have been a great producer but he didn't much care for story writing and he was willing to throw good science fiction under the bus if silly campiness got the show higher ratings.

    • @calvinhandley2373
      @calvinhandley2373 Před 3 lety

      Catzilla from what I've always heard it was not Su much a matter of what Irwin Allen wanted, as it was what the suits at CBS wanted. The addition of the Robot and Dr Smith was ordered by CBS. In an interview Jonathan Harris indicated that after the first several episode had aired and the ratings came in, Irwin Allen had told Harris to play Dr Smith more "over the top" or they were all in danger of being unemployed. Harris responded that of course if they wanted more over the top, more over the top was what they got. In turn Irwin Allen was only providing the customer, CBS, with what they wanted.

    • @SDK-im8sl
      @SDK-im8sl Před 4 lety +1

      Even though they stopped showing the Robot walking in full length shots (because of real world limitations on what a human performer inside the complete prop costume could do) --- The episodes continued to indirectly imply all kinds of Robot walking, running, staircase descending and ladder climbing. You kind of had to use your imagination for the details of it.

    @hamiltonpl my previous acct and comments on this post from last year have been all deleted. So, I am back to say.
    THANK YOU for this amazing creation of art and re imagining. You absolutely captured the fine detailing and audio sound editing. It felt ike being a kid all over again with the same wide eyed innocence I had when the show first aired just sitting on the rug in front of the set with my mouth dropped open in amazement
    I love all the hard work, labor of love that you put into this and wish for more. Every detail from the blinking lights of computers processing to the smoke emanating from the lit cigarette to seeing, actually seeing and making out the interior of the ship through the view port on the outside. Loved seeing the Alpha Control and ship on launch in color
    Your sims o animation, whatever the process is called did a great job on this. Dr. Smith in this appearance really looked like a classic Nazi spy saboteur ,really evil. I liked him like that. I was absolutely thrilled with the alternate ending and the Robot's premature attack.
    I am hopping that you are working on a part two in some way Would love to see your take on their crash landing episode ""Island in the Sky"" Thanks for the brief trip into my past and youth.

    Good job! Thanks for keeping the Robot Grey and silver as that’s what he looked like in the first season. The whole thing was a vision of the future from the Gemini space program era. THAT was part of what was so cool about LIS! Somebody should expand on that more...everything’s grey and silver, space is dangerous. They NEED a robot for atmospheric testing, etc. Just think about it, earlier versions of the robot would exist,
    and it would be interesting to see variations of equipment.

    This is great work you should do a full new season 4 series of Lost in Space.Maybe with them finally reaching the inhabitable planet around Alpha Centauri and strange things happening there and also finally contacting Alpha Control.
    By the way I was age 7 when Lost in Space was first on the network.
    I watched it with my family on a 1948 Zenith black and white console television with a round CRT tube.
    We also had a 1965 color Magnavox Television in the basement and watched some programs on that one too but I was more fond of the older television especially with earlier programs like the Outer Limits and Twilight Zone.I do barely remember watching the ultra violent Untouchables on that old Black and White TV but I was very young then.

    We never found out what "Aeolus Umbra 14" meant it's implied Smith is working for an enemy Communist country and those words were never heard again after the pilot episode. In the comic book that Bill Mumy did in the 80s those words were Alien language and Smith was somehow working for an Alien race but I don't remember any more than that it was clever.

    Interesting take on the pre-launch story. Nice recreations of the scenes most of of us know by heart. The updated space flight suits - maybe a bit to revealing? I don't remember Penny being that busty nor Will being that well hung. I think June would approve of the updated hairstyle though. Nice touches with the "easter eggs" the Star Trek style clipboard, the iPads, the lit cigarette in the ashtray - fun stuff! Not sure if you intended the flight official who asked the Robinsons if they were ready to be a Foster Brooks clone, but if so, WELL DONE!
