What actual part of the street to place a dividing line cannot even be agreed, and the army in the middle unable to satisfy no one. It would actually be laughable if it were not so sad and tragic given what was to follow in the coming years.
The myth that the army was impartial and there to keep two warring sides apart has long been exposed as nonsense. They took sides early on and actually held joint patrols with UDA units in those times.
The army at first accepted by the population. But a.mistake here a heavy hand there and you lose the hearts and you won't win. I'm just glad the peace holds. Too many innocents dying.
