  • This week my friends and I went to the Upper McKenzie River starting at Frissell boat launch since our traditional launch (Ollallie) was blocked by a river-wide snag. We've since been told by other boaters that you CAN launch at Bear Creek but we'd already launched when we found this out. The "Fish Ladder" rapid is about 1 mile upsteam of Frisselle.
We had a bevy of high-quality inflatables including:
Aire Lynx - foam floor, circa 1996
    Aire Outfitter 2
    Aire Tributary Spud
    Star Viper XL
    Sea Eagle 300x
We stopped for lunch at Belknap Springs lodge and hot springs - they have a great food truck, beautiful gardens, and camping for tents as well as RVs. On a neighboring property (Camp Yale) there are large enough spots for something like our huge 5th wheel and lots of 50A hookups. For more info, go to www.belknaphot...
I also was instructing on the Duffek turn which is used to execute quick turns into and out of eddies. It's also known as the bow rudder and is used in canoeing as well.

That viper seems to preform pretty good! I've been considering a viper or an aire force.

The force is a great boat but for me I absolutely needed a Force XL and they only made them a short time back in the early 2000s. Impossible to find used.
It would be hard to justify the 2.5 times cost between the Viper and the Force. Quality of the Viper is excellent. Second season in use probably 150 river miles of class 3-4 and it’s still like new.

Nice river and a bunch of good boats! How would you rate them for ability to navigate the river(catching eddies/ferries), stability, and fun? Your Viper looks pretty sweet.

You saw the other video where I talked about all of the boats, but for river running it’s really hard to beat a Star Viper XL or Raven Pro. Super sweet lines, fast bailing, great outfitting, carry bag, pump, quality valves, I’m super impressed. The Viper is definitely a more performance boat for experienced paddlers. Great for surfing etc.

Glad to see you back Vicki we missed your comments the last several. We were in McMinnville for just over three weeks before being in Eugene.
