I like this take on Volibear, he can easily be seen as just a force of unbridled rage and savagery although in this he's shown to respect Nunu and Willump's strength and capabilities even if they aren't exactly on par with him.

Volibear doesn't just want to kill everything to prove he's the strongest- he wants to make the Freijord as it was, a place _of_ the strongest. Nunu and willumpt both are more than capable of reaching that potential.

Since it lines up to his beliefs of war and his lust for battle. He just wants the freljordians to go to their old ways where primal instincts and battle made them strong, compared to other freljordians who rely on civilization, warmth, and family to protect each other. (Not that I agree with voli, just trying my best to make him wholesome in his wierd way...)

The change could be in part due to the Skarner rework that is set to change the entire lore of his people and the regions of PnZ (Piltover and Zaun) sinc eits revealed that Arcane is almost canon now at this point.
Volibear respecting Nunu because he already knows that Nunu has the Heart as well as feeling proud for Anivia that a Notai and a Yeti could join together. Not what I expected, but not complaining

I mean… to start off with he was quite literally bringing the thunder. Once they proved they were worth his time he would speak normally. But in all fairness he did cap it off with “If you aren’t strong enough when the time comes, I’ll kill you myself.” He’s not soft, he’s looking to nurture a great warrior for the battles to come.
So i'm guessing that Volibear we see in this game is him in his ursine form, judging from the clothing, bones and scars. Plus he's not that big compared to what we usually see him in other games. And the current Volibear we got is him in his storm demi-god form where he became mountain sized, his claws and bone spikes became crystals and the scars turn into runes on his body. If so then it'd be really cool that he's 2 forms for both when he's sane and proportionate sized enough for a conversation and another form for when he's ready for battle.
Volibear’s appearance and size tends to change depending on the situation and who is perceiving him. He can be the grotesque Thousand Pierced Bear to the Ursine and the Winter’s Claw, the Great White Bear that fought with Ornn and Rhond, or the bear that carved the rivers and fjords of the Freljord, or the gargantuan face of the storm. It depends on what he’s doing and who or what is calling him.
Volibear does not have a “true” physical form since the Freljordian demi-gods are actually just magical essence that can take form. Therefore the demi-gods can shapeshift at will. Voli takes the most forms since his worship is split between cultures that view his form differently
I kinda want to see Kratos meeting Volibear now. I'm sure Valhir would be proud of Kratos strenght if they fought. Heck, probably would bless him with his magic even.

I get they had to dress Volibear due to the game's Age rating, but it kinda defeats the purpose of Volibear's embodiment of the old primality of the Frejlord. That was the reason that in-game LoL, he doesn't wear anymore armour like he used to pre-rework.

Im pretty sure they are implying that Anivia, once again, like the base lore sacrificed herself. She's known to keep sacrificing herself and rebirthing and most often appearing again during world ending threats. I'm guessing much like Ornn and Voli, she will appear when the Watchers break out, which is implied to be sooner than later.

This is seriously my favorite version of Volibear. He will test you, and if you pass, then he'll speak with you. You have to prove yourself worthy of his audience. This I like. And you don't really have to, say, defeat him, just pass his challenge, because, in all honesty, if Volibear here wanted to really kill Nunu and Willump, there wouldn't be a damn thing they could do about it. I think this makes him more the force of nature he should be (IMO) and not the murder-hobo he's sometimes cut out to be.

This is why you don’t blow the giant horn Nunu. Giant bear demigods come up that make Willump look like a teddy bear. Jokes aside I do love the little bit of leniency they’ve given Volibear here. He’s a harsh teacher but in his own way he is preparing Nunu for the trials ahead. And it is heroes, tested and true with their own valour and power that the Freljord needs.
I can't believe how big Volibear is compared to Ornn. Volibear here is at least twice as big as him. But honestly, this design of Voli and his clothes (which are new and kinda strange on him) is so damn good it doesn't matter at all that it is a bit different from the original in LoL
Size is kind of a suggestion for demigods. Volibear could be this large or large enough for his quote of “Storm clouds are the cloak I wrap around my fur.” to not be hyperbole.

Tom "Zileas" Cadwell, the creator-as in the guy who made the champion ZIlean- and the Rioter Volibar had a slight disagreement with each other. Volibar proposed the idea of Volibear, who was an armoured bear. Zileas on the other hand thought the idea of a bear champion-especially an armoured one- was stupid. This slight disagreement spilled over into their creations and has been a bit of an in-universe gag for a little over a decade, one that's taken a bit of a backseat now that Volibear no longer wears the aforementioned armour. Reworked Volibear still references this long-standing joke in League of Legends proper when he encounters the Chronokeeper, and they still have their "Hidden Passives" when on opposite sides of the match. "Do you have somethhing against bears, old man?"
The actual thing is that nun is part of the notai, which follow anivia. Just as the ursine are like volibear's children so to are the notai and hearthblood to his siblings
Not in the litteral sense of the thing. He is blessed by Anivia and because of this, he got some of her power. Ornn explains when Nunu&Willump break into his forge.
Because this character having multiple appearances isn’t a new thing. Take his usual appearance on the Rift to the Thousand Pierced Bear that’s the closest we get to his appearance in Silence for the Damned. It often depends on who is interacting or summoning Volibear. In this case it’s Nunu blowing the horn who sees Volibear as a battle-scarred warrior, and being naked would be weird to him.
A matter of perspective really. He’s probably the least pleasant of the three demigod siblings but what he embodies is just as much a part of the Freljord as the others. Volibear is the wild, survivalist warrior culture of the tundra. The strength that first built the lands that others built on top of. He is a creature of battle, strife and survival. Not a creature of peace which is a dark necessity in the harsh landscape of the Freljord. So while his siblings may be peaceful or neutral, Volibear must be that violent urge to compete, grow strong and survive the harshness of the world.

Jokes aside I do love the little bit of leniency they’ve given Volibear here.
He’s a harsh teacher but in his own way he is preparing Nunu for the trials ahead. And it is heroes, tested and true with their own valour and power that the Freljord needs.

I can't believe how big Volibear is compared to Ornn. Volibear here is at least twice as big as him.
But honestly, this design of Voli and his clothes (which are new and kinda strange on him) is so damn good it doesn't matter at all that it is a bit different from the original in LoL
And yet this two are equal in terms of strength.this show how strong ornn really is
Size is kind of a suggestion for demigods.
Volibear could be this large or large enough for his quote of “Storm clouds are the cloak I wrap around my fur.” to not be hyperbole.

It's a community joke more than anything, if you're looking for actual lore between these two you can be assured you aren't missing a single thing.
Tom "Zileas" Cadwell, the creator-as in the guy who made the champion ZIlean- and the Rioter Volibar had a slight disagreement with each other. Volibar proposed the idea of Volibear, who was an armoured bear. Zileas on the other hand thought the idea of a bear champion-especially an armoured one- was stupid.
This slight disagreement spilled over into their creations and has been a bit of an in-universe gag for a little over a decade, one that's taken a bit of a backseat now that Volibear no longer wears the aforementioned armour.
Reworked Volibear still references this long-standing joke in League of Legends proper when he encounters the Chronokeeper, and they still have their "Hidden Passives" when on opposite sides of the match. "Do you have somethhing against bears, old man?"

The actual thing is that nun is part of the notai, which follow anivia. Just as the ursine are like volibear's children so to are the notai and hearthblood to his siblings

Because this character having multiple appearances isn’t a new thing.
Take his usual appearance on the Rift to the Thousand Pierced Bear that’s the closest we get to his appearance in Silence for the Damned.
It often depends on who is interacting or summoning Volibear. In this case it’s Nunu blowing the horn who sees Volibear as a battle-scarred warrior, and being naked would be weird to him.

A matter of perspective really.
He’s probably the least pleasant of the three demigod siblings but what he embodies is just as much a part of the Freljord as the others.
Volibear is the wild, survivalist warrior culture of the tundra. The strength that first built the lands that others built on top of.
He is a creature of battle, strife and survival. Not a creature of peace which is a dark necessity in the harsh landscape of the Freljord. So while his siblings may be peaceful or neutral, Volibear must be that violent urge to compete, grow strong and survive the harshness of the world.
Call me anything you want but it shouldn't be this difficult to keep a character design consistent among the games.
