  • I majored in Linguistics at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. It was a great choice for a major, and I really enjoyed my time there. I made this video as a way of sharing my experience studying linguistics at the university level for the benefit of anyone who might be interested in this major.

Welcome! I am an aspiring polyglot with a degree in Linguistics. I speak English, Spanish, French, and Esperanto, and I'm currently working on Thai. I make videos twice a week to talk about my methods of learning languages and to try to help others make language learning faster, easier, and more fun.

I've always loved language and how fascinating it is so for long I've had my mind set on linguistics. Though as I'm actually starting just the basics in college I've been having my doubts if it would be worth it in the means of my career especially because of automation. Though for some reason I never even thought about the fact even linguists still have a spot in those careers. Thanks for the video!

We have this in common! I started learning Spanish in 8th grade, but I student by myself, using "Spanish for dummies", before I had taken a class for it.
I ended up taking Spanish in tenth grade and I had taken 2 years.
I didn't stick with it. I picked it up again about three years ago but stopped.
I'm now learning Chinese and Korean.
I had a talk with a few people and through them I had realized that I have always had a passion for learning languages.
The revelation had brought me to tears, actually.
So, here I am taking Social Science and Humanities:TESOL- teaching English as a second language and then I'm going to transfer to another College to major in Linguistics.
I was afraid to take linguistics head on, because I've been out of school for so long, that I felt intimidated.
It took me 4 weeks just to get back in the groove of studying.

Yeah I’ve been meaning to study a textbook for students of English as a foreign language. I actually taught English in japan briefly and was kind of winging it using my personal experience studying foreign languages but it’s not the same. You really need a good memorized response for stuff like anybody vs somebody. What came up often for Japanese speakers is articles. When to use the, a, or omit it. They don’t know and I think a is easier to say and just makes mire sense to them. They use it more than the other two options.

I have been learning japanese for the past 1 year and though this, I have developed a really strong interest in how language works and we say the things we do. I am 24 now and was really thinking about doing this but part of me feels like I don't have the IQ to take up a course like this and that It might be a little too ambitious for me.
