Prince Dion has to be the most tragic character in the game. His biological mother is presumably dead, his stepmother is literally an evil psychotic bitch who abused and gaslit him, his dad basically lost all his marbles after marrying his insane stepmother and sent him on these suicide missions, his younger brother also shows signs of psychotic tendencies, he nearly nuked the entire planet as Bahamut, is mostly revered by his people because of his status as Bahamut's Dominant, and has had to sacrifice his life and happiness with the man he loves as well as the little girl he's grown to love as something of a daughter in order to atone for his sins. There's no one who has suffered more than he has and it shows in this massively EPIC battle against his brothers.
Amen to that, my friend. I Stan Dion. He’s probably the best, but most tragic character in the game, but Clive isn’t far behind.
Oh my god... as I child I dreamed of playing as a summon and to see them taking an active part in the plot but this... this goes beyond my wildest dreams. I was so mesmerized by this that I nearly forgot to breathe for a sec. FF16 is my favourite game ever. I'm having seroius doubts I will ever see something as epic as this.

I played this through last night and my jaw was dropped the entire time. I've never experienced something so epic in a video game, and I'm old enough to have pre-ordered FFVII from EB Games. I've been a life time fan and I know this game is gonna be controversial for a lot of the fanbase, but honestly I have been this blown away by Final Fantasy. Yoshi-P and Soken are truly the next generation of FF, and Square-Enix as a whole.

The only thing that they really failed on was the voice actors and facial expressions of the characters. It was far too limited, and I don't know of the replayability is there given the long cutscenes mid-fight.
However.
Compared to ff15, Kh3, and the other rushed crap Square was forcing on the fandom. This was a GREAT way to send the message that they're going back to the roots of the fandom, the series, and what they love as developers.
I really do believe yoshi p, nomura and the rest really put focus on that "you'd sell out the people" line intentionally. 😂 there's a lot of parallels running with what they've personally been through with the company.
So, I'll take a few controversial complaints with overall great experience, over what has been given to us against the directors' wishes. Any day.

@@RedFadeever since her awakening as dominant (I think since she was 13?) She was forced to transform and fight for the Ironblood. Eikon transformation took toll to the Dominant's body and she was probably transformed much more often than every other dominants in this game. She was so close to the brink of death that's why Clive didn't want her to transform if possible.
As someone who has an older brother that I'm really close with, this entire chapter hit on so many different levels.

I was so damn surprised when I saw Ifrit and the Phoenix becoming one. Based off that mural we saw at Phoenix Gate, I assumed it was Ultima taking on the form of Ifrit - I was way off! They were meant to be born as a single flame all along - the fires of atonement, so to speak. It only wasn't until Clive made sure he could fully summon Ifrit at will that made his new fate all the more possible.
This installment really gives off similar vibes to Asura's Wrath, almost seamlessly mixing gameplay with cinematic

This was one of the best moments in gaming in the last decade for me.
The spectacle, clive finally being able to redeem himself for his failure, the soundtrack. Being able to actively play a GF boss battle in this detail, when as a kid you'd only get to watch a preloaded cut scene.

Most people don't know but the music that starts here 1:02 is the FF1 main theme. They changed it to be so dramatic. Gives me goosebumps and tears to my eyes, I played that game in 1990.

I just finished this an hour ago and I really truly feel this is the best boss fight in any game I've ever played, I can't stop thinking about it 😭 Every single time I think this game has shown its whole hand, it finds a way raise the bar again. It's just incredible.

This had to be one of the best game boss fights I have ever experienced. This entire game is absolutely amazing. Words cannot express how in love I am with Final Fantasy XVI.

I'll never forget this fight. I had the perfect set up, Bahamut flexing his golden wings as soon as the 30:02 mark and the song hittings its choir crescendo at that EXACT moment. It's moments like that why I game and I really wish I would have been recording because Bahamut preparing to cast Zetta flare and the music hitting its peak...was peak gaming.

Just hit the small button slightly above and to the right of the D pad and it will give you options to save the last 1 minute, 3, 5, 30, 1 hour etc of your gameplay. It's sad you didn't realize it at the time because I've been looking for a 4k clip for exactly the moment you described lol. The closest I've found is Asmongolds, who hits it perfect with the violins, but its in 1k and his chat/face is in the way.
The scene where ifrit tears a hole through bahamut at around 30:55 absolutely has to be a tribute to Louisoix from the final fantasy 14 video "the flames of truth".
I feel like not enough people are talking about 23:00 that scene made me actually tear up, not only the epic score but it was the moments the brothers truly became one. And for me it perfectly embodies the brothers relationship. A truly amazing game

Bahamut were crazy strong. i thought no boss can top Titan fight, but to me this already pass that (i just play this far) only Odin's left to surprise me with his fight.

I just finished this boss battle like an hour ago and i have no clue how my goosebumps are still forming after that battle this was without a doubt one of the best final fantasy bosses ive ever had the pleasure of playing through and whats crazy is that ITS NOT EVEN THE FINAL BOSS

I just defeated right now the Bahamut and i got to say, i have 27 years old, i always play video games since i was 5 and this is best boss battle i have play. The way the build up Clive, Joshua and their mother meet up in the whole game, Bahamut going mad for some reason, the city been attacking by her on protector, the emperor dead, Oliver was Ultima, suicide, brother together to make a fusion and in the end they show us Odin, and we got i Idea of what happening to him.

If there was one thing I was worried about with FF16 regarding the Eikons it would be if the Eikon battles were pretty much only cinematic shit with intermittent gameplay but I was reeeeally pleasantly surprised with how much fun Ifrit/Ifrit + Phoenix is to control and play as. Basically a beefier, somewhat smoother and of course more powerful Clive and everything flows so smoothly that it's not a chore to fight with Ifrit as much as it is something to look forward to.
Glad they put in the extra effort in that department.
Honestly if they fleshed out eikon gameplay a bit I'd totally buy an eikon fighting game.

Just beat this boss fight.. Goddamn the last phase is literally a Gundam battle! And Bahamut’s theme is officially my fave theme in this game. Fuckin epic, for me this top the Titan fight. Love that beam/laser/flare spam. 🤩🤩🤩

I haven’t cried in awe to a sequence so epic since the Ride of the Rohirrim from Return of the King. It’s so amazing
THIS is how you make an epic boss fight. It is about to become one of my favorites ever alongside Isshin, the Sword Saint (Sekiro) and Poseidon (GoW 3).
I will never forget this sequence, absolutely unbelievable
It’s just otherworldly, the dragoons rebelling, the holy capital on flames, the dominion bath on caos, Bahamut’s brilliance, once worshiped light incinerating everything, Phoenix flying again, Clive’s reunion with Joshua, Annabella, close to the death she deserves, Ifrit demonic flames reaching the heavens… everything is just otherworldly, and then.. 6:03 just did it for me. It’s not a fight anymore between potential gods, it’s the remnants of pure memories outclassing the world, in this fight the last thing to worry about is getting out of it alive, my god, what a build up, what a scenario, 👏👏 f*ck, if I ever have the chance I will gladly shake the hand of everyone that worked on this beautiful piece of a masterpiece.
6.03 is a pure beauty, the timing with the music is amazing.

This game is everything I ever dreamed of playing Final Fantasy when I was a child
I passed this part the other day. Between this battle and the previous one at the mountain with Tian, I dont know which battle I like more. This is turning out to be the best FF game I have played yet and I have been a fan since FF7.
I like this one a lot more because the pacing feels better, the score is better, the visuals are godly, and the context to the story is more significant.

Okay I am a 30+ year FF vet but even I thought this fight was mind blowing.
I just played through this a few hours ago and this fight had me screaming from sheer hype. This is some Asura's Wrath levels of peak over-the-top shonen and I fucking loved every second of it. I don't think I've ever played anything as epic as this. Not to mention seeing the two brothers fight side-by-side for the first time made this hit different on so many levels. God, I love this game.
30:30 This part of the fight with Bahamut is what did me in. Just seeing Ifrit Risen use all of its power to stop a world-nuking Zettaflare with the ambient Ascension music in the background is fucking PEAK. Topping that off with Ifrit saying "This ends NOW!" while bringing Bahamut down in an epic clash of light versus fire had me SOLD on this game. God damn am I able to enjoy this in 2024, because this brought back my passion for Final Fantasy!

I read an article about how flower symbolism is a recurring theme in FF games, like in FF7 Cloud fell and met Aerith on a bed of flowers, the opening of FF8 had flowers circling Rinoa, Luna gave Noctis a flower when she died in 15, etc
For me it was a reference to nier/drakengard 😂

Forget being the best FF to date, this game just gave us possibly the greatest boss fight sequence to date, it was able to outdo Asura's Wrath by a mile, and literally did a DBZ battle better than any DBZ game could've hoped to achieve. It outdid my favorite boss battle of all time which is Grigori in Dragons Dogma, and Bahamit wasn't even the final boss.
This game keeps blowing everything else out of the water so much it's unreal. And to think all of this is rendered in real time, we can confidently say we reached the age where we can have real time renditions of movies that outclass Pixar, Disney and anything else of that level, and this is all running on a goddamn PS5, not even a monster Rig.

In fairness to Asura's Wrath, you can CLEARLY see many times throughout FF16 that Asura's Wrath served as a massive inspiration for all of the Eikon boss battles. Lots of stylistic and gameplay similarities, as well as narrative structure/tone. It's basically a huge refinement and iteration on everything Asura's Wrath achieved with its boss battles, giving Asura's Wrath the legacy it deserves.

These monstrous Eikon fights are such breath of fresh air. I'm so tired of fighting with humans, it's either Dark Souls or Devil May Cry again and again. Wish Square release an Eikon Arena DLC where we can do battle with every Eikons.

He copied when Bahamut fly down for the ifrit + Phoenix fight, like he does in the cinematic against Louisoux, the Terraflare where he changes the arena like in final coil and UCOB, the dive bombs, threw in some Akh Morn, was just fucking divine

How incredible is it that gaming has advanced to such a level that something like this IS FULLY PLAYABLE???? FREAKING IFRIT AND PHOENIX FUSED TOGETHER FIGHTING GOLDEN KING OF DRAGONS BAHAMUT IN SPACE!!!!!!! Bravo Square Enix. I will never forget this fight for the rest of my life.

I thought the Typhon fight was insane, then the Titan one was a lil too silly and over the top.
I absolutely did not expect to continue on and then see a fire demon fight a light dragon on a crystal flower before merging with a phoenix to fight an earth ending dragon god in space...

I am very confused by what definition that Titan is “too over the top” and this isn’t. I adore both fights, but ff16 Bahamut is the much ridiculous spectacle creep in the entire goddamn franchise lol. Titan was explicitly the more fair, grounded fight compared to this
Just did this boss a couple nights ago for the first time. This fight is a masterpiece. This is the most beautiful piece of art I’ve ever seen and nothing will ever be better. I love it so much I have replayed this entire mission 3 times and haven’t progressed anymore through the game. Idk if I ever will. This is just phenomenal. Game has given me Kingdom Hearts vibes since the start and this fight was so much like Xemnas Nobody ship fights on KH2. FF16 did it better. God damn I don’t think I’ll ever stop thinking about this fight. Ever
I m been gaming for 16 years and I played a lot of games , I mean a lot .. and this one is hands down the most epic one I have experienced . Truly a masterpiece in epicness !!
People who dont like this great final fantasy are not fans of this franchise, you are just fans of the jrpg genre and maybe a nostalgic sad old man who cant let go his childhood but nothing more………..

Calling someone "not a fan" of something never has been, or ever will be, and insult. You say that from a position of egotistical arrogance, as if it some how makes you better than someone else because you like it. Take a step back and realise you don't actually matter that much. Not a soul on this planet is losing an ounce of sleep simply because you somehow think you are more clairvoyant than anyone else because this sequence speaks to you.
I love this game and the series, but pump the breaks. Not everyone likes what you like.

After Typhon: FF Meets DMC as a giant lizard.
After Titan: FF meets Bayonetta and Asura's Wrath.
After THIS: Its just Dragonball Z with Kaiju. Im not complaining. Its pure joy.
