  • The journey of the Trenitalia train InterCity 728 across the Strait of Messina.
    The IC 728 starts at Palermo Centrale and ends at Roma Termini. On this day - as on the two previous days - the ferry SCILLA had to handle the entire rail traffic across the Strait alone. The MESSINA failed due to problems. The other rail ferries VILLA and LOGUDORO were not in service.

    You can't even imagine how long I've been looking for photos or videos about those ships, expecially the interiors, those are the ships where I used to travel in my childohood but now they're accesible only by train and not by car so nearly everyone uses the ships of the rival private company and that makes me so sad.

    Great work! So do all the passengers stay inside the rail cars until they are on the ferry, then disembark?

    • @JustFerries
      @JustFerries  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes, it is. The train passengers travel on the train to the ship.

    Nice footage! What do you think about the strait of messina train ferry service comparing to the rostock - trelleborg service ?

    • @JustFerries
      @JustFerries  Před 5 lety +1

      Between Rostock and Trelleborg mainly goods or new (export) trains are transported (with a very few exceptions also passenger trains over the years). The ferries are bigger and the line is longer. The Rostock-Trelleborg ferries also run overnight and have cabins on board. Railway operations are very similar. In each case, diesel locomotives take over the shunting. In Messina and Villa San Giovanni there are passenger stations which are electrified. In the Rostock harbor, there is none. In Trelleborg, there is one directly at the port, but it is mainly used as a terminal station for trains from Malmö. Of course, the frequency via the Strait of Messina is higher. The ferries across the Strait of Messina remind me very much of earlier times on the Puttgarden-Rødby or Korsør-Nyborg line.
