Unabhängig davon, was er heute sagen mag, ist Grönemeyer ein ganz großer Musiker, wenn nicht DER größte deutsche Musiker 👍! Find ich, zumindest.

He's his own legend. We saw 2003, but the song was his great hit in 1984. And the lyrics.. singing about a (non-)simple stuff like men in kind of "hard outside, weak inside" .. great songwriter. No wonder he's still extreme successful for 40+ years now.

This song made Herbert Grönemeyer famous. It was the first single to really go viral on the radio. Before that, he was rather unsuccessful. Then came 1984 and with it the album "4630 Bochum". He was able to fill stadiums virtually overnight and thrilled the masses. And he still does today. Especially in Bochum, you have to be VERY quick if you want a ticket. He is still an incredible live artist.

Das Boot (4 years earlier) made Herbert Grönemeyer famous...

@@xwormwood Yes, as an actor. But he was pretty unsuccessful as a musician before that. Even his record label kicked him out. Then came EMI (his new record label), his decision to also act as producer on his albums (i.e. to do what he wants) and the album "4630 Bochum" with the single "Männer". So you could say that the song made him a famous singer/musician.l

    Yes, soo unknown... 😂
I guess, every single german over 25 can sing with immediately, even if they aren't a fan of him. This song was released in 1984, but it's still regularly played on radio until today. 😎

The announcement was rather funny aswell. He announced one of his biggest hits as a „obscure b-side“ type track 😅

I would love to see you're reacting to his song "Bochum". (also live Mensch tour 2003 in Gelsenkirchen) Bochum is his homecity in the coalmining area called Ruhrpott. The song starts with the "Das Steigerlied" , a coal miners anthem which different football ⚽️ clubs sing in stadiums. There are some videos from last year with real miners on YT singing this song because the mining closed forever in Germany 2023. You can see scarfs of VfL Bochum, it's the football ⚽️ club.

Herbie started his music carreer in 1974 and is 50 years (!) later still in the charts, at the radio, in tv and on tour! :)
Almost at the same time "Westernhagen" got his first record deal in 1974, too. And he is still releasing records and is touring as well.
If you are interested to give him a view and check out "Westernhagen - Mit 18 (Rockpop In Concert, 24.08.1984)" < sure he was young than, but pure rock'n'roll!
Totally different: If you are into (hard) rock, I would recommend the video "Böhse Onkelz - So sind wir (Böhse für's Leben 2015)". The band was founded in 1980 and I am not really joking, but I always name them "the german motörhead". If you watch the video, you might be surprised, that there are a lot of (young) women in the audience - beside the cool guys, of course!

It is ironic about men's problems and rather making fun of what they are supposed to be. It still is a hymnz, it came out when I was still a kid. it requires ironic sensibilities. It is basically mourning the expectations put upon men. Which have to live up to what today we would say is toxic masculinity. and its acknowledgement paired with ridicule makes this such a great song

Fun fact #1: Grönemeyer's lyrics (not just this song, but overall) are THE most talked about, taught, and discussed in classrooms nationwide, they're that good. (I just wish he were a better singer ...)
Fun fact #2: Grönemeyer started out as an actor -- he was one of the lead characters in "Das Boot", for example.
