    Whenever I visit a home with fluted panel and lots of open shelving, I admire the amount of work that’s gone into cleaning, and curating the pieces on display. But when I see a dining area with a bench or worse, built in seating, I make a beeline for a dining chair.😅

      Hahaah exactly! It looks cool but I’m way too lazy to clean extra things. Oh that’s true about the bench vs dining chair. It’s like if you go to a restaurant would you choose to sit on stools or normal chairs😂

    My mum built every single thing inbuilt. It is so hard to change when it starts to break down. In my own house, I did only the kitchen and toilet. The rest of the house has no inbuilt at all. If I am sick of the layout after a few years, I could change it at any time.

      Yeah! That’s what I like about having a good mix of in built and stand alone pieces! It’s also easy if you move houses

    Trends pass quickly, best is to invest on timeless pieces, but use caution while bringing items into the house, as each square inch of space now costs more than one gram of gold in current HDB prices.

      Hahaha I agree! But should also have some leeway to change up certain things so the space isnt always the same like change a coffee table or shelf.

    I bought resale a 5 years old flat. I ask few of my friends about renovation. And most of them suggest Kitchen and toilet. About Living room and bedroom still thinking what to make simple spacious area for some arrangement or do a minor renovation?

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Před měsícem

      Yeah. Kitchen and toilet will be the one you spend most one. Living room and bed room you can still buy separate pieces of furniture to make it work. Will definitely do a video on this in the future, thank you for the recommendation. But as a general rule if thumb, try to make sure you don’t get too much carpentry above your line of sight to make a space look bigger and you can incorporate mirrors as well. I would recommend you do your bedroom wardrobe with Ikea or get a carpenter as you really want to maximise the space from floor the ceiling. Hope this helps!

    Hahaha! I do agree with you! Personally i like home to be minimalist! Having too much in-built furniture will make the house looks cluttered and small! 😂

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Před rokem +1

      I agree with you too ahah! You have to keep the home open to make it feel big and roomy!

    This video is what many new home owners need to watch. So irritating when so many house tours have so many things in common. HDB might as well built all BTOs like that

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Před rokem +1

      hhaha exactly! I am also personally sick of BTOs with a plain muji aesthetic. It feels devoid of character and definitely not sustainable to keep clean in the long run

    i reckon easy maintenance is a must. Any thoughts on the aircon pipe trunking?

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Před 5 měsíci

      Definitely to the first point. As for the aircon trunking I left it to the people installing it. Just have to plan its position so that it is near your toilet and where the ac ledge. For example instead of putting the one in my hall above the TV, i put it above a door so there's less trunking. But to each their own.

    While i have to admit i personally am fond of fluted panel but prefer to have it as a entryway OR feature wall aesthetic. But i definitely agree, some people are going crazy with having fluted panels all over the house. As for the wall niche, the only place i feel would be appropriate to have one is the toilet. Anywhere else is just madness

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Před 11 měsíci

      Sorry for taking so long to get to your comment ahah. Okay it works as a feature wall but some people for it for their entire living room which is excessive like you said. And yes thank you for agreeing with my niche opinion (see what I did there)

  • @hilmir
    @hilmir Před 11 měsíci

    i agree with everything except the kitchen uppers. they really swallow up a kitchen to have both lower and upper cabinetry. also, like you mentioned, it is a built in which is not easy to remove or edit. alternatively, extra storage is always easy to incorporate. my open shelving is partlally lined with 2 muji containers, just cause i want to keep those items away from moisture. but there are so many options and flexibility for the open shelving (baskets, closed modulars etc) which do give storage if needed without the overwhelming look of cabinetry.

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Před 11 měsíci

      Oh that’s true! Having a lot of cabinetry makes a space look smaller and it’s more permanent. I think because my mum makes sambal and curry stuff which will make it very difficult to clean if our shelves were open but maybe having containers could be a good compromise.

    are fluted panels more difficult to clean then normal walls? there are no horizonal ledges

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Před rokem

      Yeah, for normal walls dust usually collects in the corners and fluted panels just multiply that. Dust can collect in between them.

  • @prl1184
    @prl1184 Před rokem

    All so true. I feel like people always so oh this is so nice that is so nice… but do you think about the cleaning??!! A house can be aesthetic but what’s equally or more important is that you can easily clean it in the least time possible. Almost never a consideration in so many people’s minds. Your roomba can’t clean everything lmao (cupboards, nooks and crannies etc. you need a cloth and your hand).

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Před rokem +1

      HAHA thank you for agreeing with me! Even if you have those portable vacuums, you still have to change attachments to clean the floor and then get into the nooks and crannies. I hope this video helps people realise they need to balance aesthetics with practicality.

    whenever i watching ppl home tour guide and the fluted wall, i wont think it is nice to see but thinking how much troublesome will be when come to cleaning the dust on it

    glass walls. 1. putting up a glass wall in a living room for a study corner. in my opinion, it's just a meaningless obstruction cutting the space in a living room. skeptical about its soundproof effect as well, not to mention THE CLEANING! 😱 2. knocking down existing bedroom walls AND putting up a glass wall. if you don't need a room and knock down walls to make the bigger living room, ok. But, knocking down (don't need walls) > space opened (ok, job done) >>> building up glass walls at the same spot... WHY???

    • @kirshannmarcus
      @kirshannmarcus  Před rokem

      Hahaah that’s a good one!!! I see a lot of Reno videos with that glass walled or half glass office. I’d rather have a normal room as my office because what if I have a work call and I have guests in the living room? They’re just going to be staring at me😅
