Your work nearly brings tears to my eyes, for it reminds me of happier times in my life. Since I was a wild little girl roaming the massive Odenwald forest and mountain that my Hungarian grandparents lived on, I have loved everything about trees. So many different Conifer species grew on that mountain, and a good many deciduous trees as well. I’m a lot bigger and older of a girl now, and I wound up living beneath the great Georgia Pines. Every tree or piece of wood seems to have its own subtle smell, regardless of species. I have giant pines I call The Sentinels guarding my front by the gate, and am surrounded by huge 120’+ pines on the N, S & W. To the E across the street, the trees pick up again. Lol
I used to have a scroll saw and really loved making little projects, especially puzzles. My husband forgot it on one of our moves and I never did get another one. I got a horse instead. I had her for 13 years until 2013 when my mom, who lived in GA was diagnosed with brain cancer. I had to give up my horse, put my 18 yo dog down and leave CA and travel alone to GA. Mamma died 30 days after I got there, the day after Christmas. I never did get another horse. I got a Yamaha FX SVHO Jetski instead. I inherited the house, land, everything because I am the last one alive on both sides of the family. I have a Mulberry wood walking stick that I think I’ll polish some more. Wood is just right when it smells of earth and moss and berries and plants, but is rubbed to feel like glass.

It's a burl. Basically when a tree gets attacked by certain types of bacteria it forms a nasty looking knot of alien wood around the infection. This doesn't make the bacteria go away but it does contain it...so long as the tree continues to make layers on that burl. Thus wood is great for carving on a lathe because the grain is so random and fine, meaning your piece is somewhat less likely to split. I say less likely because depending on the burl they can just shatter and fly apart on your lathe even if you're gentle with them.

STUNNING. Absolutely worth every second of 13 mins of my life. In fact, I’ll likely watch this over and over. There is so much depth and dimension! I’m going to play this video in a special topics art class Wednesday. (The only thing exciting about my masters degree at this point! Lol)
I was thinking it would be interesting to do something with the pieces that get cut off when you round them out (before the resin pour, on the band saw). Would you be interested in sending me cut offs of burl like that? I’d handle shipping of course. An idea just struck me and I figured it never hurts to ask.

I'm in love with this , something I would personally love is you to set wood and reef coral into your art sculpture. Maybe make a wave out of it in a really light sky blue. Would be incredible. I would wood and I love coral ( obviously I hate the fact that's been taken out of the sea is natural environment but seeing as it's already out of the sea when it's purchased I think it's the most beautiful ornamental natural substance besides wood.
You would probably need a metal lathe to turn the coral. It is literally rock hard.

The stand is beautiful! A lot of times I feel like the stands can break up the natural lines of the artwork and distract from it but this compliments it perfectly! Best way to display the art!
