The Psychology Of Guts: Man's Search For Meaning

Guts is a character which encapulates a wide spectrum of human behaviour and what would happen if someone endlessly struggled through hell. Gut's is a person who has almost everything taken from him, while he simultaneously looks for a way to give his own life meaning- and a reason to live. From a person who "would rather fight for their life, than live it" to an experienced man who would break his own body to protect the ones he loves.

Rhcp's bass player Flea once mentioned in an interview something along the lines as true art is created by true pain. With the lessons he might have learned from experiencing something painful and traumatic it helped him to create music that had a positive influence on millions. As you outlined we can make a conscious decision to either corrupt ourselves and give up, or rather give in to pain and trauma, diving into a vendetta like mode followed by reckless and malicious behaviour (choosing to be a villain), or we try to move towards something good, something greater that nourishes positivity and healing for us and the people we care about.
