War Of The Worlds - #WOTW ☄️
This is a story of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances - but they are more than just victims in a brutal war.
When astronomers detect a transmission from another galaxy, it is definitive proof of intelligent extra-terrestrial life. The world’s population waits for further contact with bated breath. They do not have to wait long. Within days, mankind is all but wiped out by a devastating attack; pockets of humanity are left in an eerily deserted world.
As aliens hunt and kill those left alive, the survivors ask a burning question - who are these attackers and why are they hell-bent on our destruction? Emotional, cinematic and rooted in character, it is a unique marriage of human drama and the best science fiction. We will come to realise the alien’s savage attack on earth is not arbitrary; its seeds are being sown before our very eyes.
Set in present-day Europe, War Of The Worlds is a multi-faceted series, written and created by the #BAFTA award winner #HowardOverman (#Misfits, #Merlin, #Crazyhead) based on the timeless story by H. G. Wells. It is being Executive Produced by Johnny Caaps, Julian Murphy, and Howard Overman through their company; Urban Myth Films.
Helen Brown [#ElizabethMcGovern: #DowntonAbbey, #TheCommuter] - As events unfold, Helen is forced to reconsider everything she once held to be true.

Sarah Gresham [#NatashaLittle: #SilentWitness, #MrNobody] - If she is to survive, Sarah must rediscover an inner strength that years of guilt have obliterated.
Jonathan Gresham [#StephenCampbellMoore: #DowntonAbbey, #SeasonOfTheWitch] - Jonathan is forced to confront uncomfortable truths as he risks everything to find his family.
Catherine Durand [#LeaDrucker: #LeBureaudesLegendes, #Custody] - Catherine’s life is shattered when she discovers she is culpable for all that has come to be.
Colonel Mustafa Mokrani [#AdelBencherif: #Spectre, #LondonHasFallen] - A disillusioned NATO colonel drawn into the heart of a battle he never wanted to fight.
Chloe Dumont [#StephaneCaillard: #BastilleDay, #Marseille] - A self assured mother whose strength masks a troubled past that’s increasingly hard to hide.
Sacha Dumont [#MatthieuTorloting: #SinkOrSwim, #TheRedBandSociety] - A volatile and solitary teenager who finds solace in an unlikely ally.
Noah Dumont [#GuillaumeGioux: #22 Bullets, #TheReturned] - A police officer whose charm masks a much darker truth

Tom Gresham [#TyTennant: #Tolkien, #Casualty] - A young boy surviving with his family in deserted London.
That grinding noise is H G Wells spinning in his grave
I see nothing but a bunch of people having a seizure, bad trailer
Entertainment HD I know
That makes it a perfect trailer full of intrigue. Why show the shit threat in the trailer and turn people away before the show airs?
Show us nothing, get us interested, then let us down with the final product.
@WITMONSTER RACING Looks at Keanus Day the Earth Stood Still, the trailer was literally the films bests bits! If you watched the trailer, there was no need to go to the cinema at the time.
@WITMONSTER RACING Not really, they could have shown at least a vague hint of the threat. This trailer was a load of people running away from a barely audible and uninteresting noise and saying they were going to die for no reason. It would've been much more effective to show the calm before the storm, giving us a very superficial introduction to the lives of a few main characters followed by a genuinely unsettling sign at the end of the trailer with a hint of something alien. This would actually draw us in, instead of an absolutely pointless montage of scared strangers.
@WITMONSTER RACING It was 'just fine'.. Does that really scream 'exciting and original new show' to you, or is it more like 'generic cliched horror which will end after one season due to financial inviability'?
Where them tripods at
Yeah
Probably want to leave it to a surprise
Still in the Tripodery, getting a service...
Can't you build them; you've built robots before haven't you?
Perhaps they're metaphorical
Wasn’t there just a war of the worlds series like a few months ago
We dont like to talk about that
Yeah but that was a shitty bbc show. Not that this looks any better
@@Martin-rh6bn 😂🤣
Exactly, and it actually was really good in my opinion. I mean, it wasn’t as good as the Tom Cruise one but definitely better the 20th century original film. This one had such a great feel for the 1912 atmosphere and how things would’ve works back then if said situation would’ve happened. I honestly don’t understand why more people don’t give it a higher score. ‘Because it didn’t have as many fights and explosions and they’d have liked?’ Well tough. If Americans had done it they would’ve just gone well overboard AAAALL OVER AGAIN, just like with Independence Day 2. I mean that film was actually pretty good too but still you get my point.
Daniel Whyatt plus it’s a rlly cool and like I don’t want it over done and ruined.
Imagine having zero creativity and constantly rehashing the same old stuff
You've just described Hollywood. And the Hollywood version of this film was dog shit on a plate.
A reboot of a reboot is pathetic
Do you know how often I see that comment? Just saying.
@@demark8262 doesnt help when people still pay to watch it and give them reason to keep doing sadly as well
@@cobrardh War of the Worlds has inspired seven films over a 100 years....... Sherlock Holmes has over a 100 over that same time. and all of them are great..............................
if we forget sherlock and watson....ps its a retelling or reimagining not a reboot
Personally, I think this was a really good version. The attack is, within the confines of our technology, legitimately frightening.
You know what's sad? When an audible book does better with war of the worlds than anything put to screen. Use jeff waynes music for God's sake! And while you are at it make it era accurate! I swear to god if this ends up being more screen time about families and not even seeing the aliens then I'm out. I just want time era accurate story of a man trying to get back to his wife while escaping the alien invasion is that so hard? The BBC messed that up somehow and anything else I have seen just doesn't have the feeling that Jeff wayne produced or the book told.
Cosmic Girl fucking same! Why can no one release a good screen adaptation of this excellent and classic book it doesnt seem like it would be that hard? I was let down by the bbc one too. I just wanted to see the cylinder unscrew and see a martian peer out. But no, we got a stupid sphere that span round and made people catch fire.
Agreed I grew up.listening to.Richard burtons beautiful.voice reading this story . And jeff Wayne's soundtrack would be epic . Getting sick and tired of all.of these versions that never get it
Yes we are still awaiting a straight up accurate transition from book to film.
The BBC really missed a golden opportunity, but they had to inject the usual PC poison as well as stupid things like the spinning sphere. That series could have been the definitive telling of the story.
Yes I totally agree why doesn’t someone remake and add the original Geoff Wayne’s Music Now that would be a Blast !!! My favourite is forever Autumn 🍂 ❤️❤️❤️
"We'll make our own tripods... except ours will have four legs!"
Seriously tho think I'll listen to Jeff Waynes musical version instead
Nathaniel! Naaathhaaaniieeell!!!
I'm currently listening to it on audible now 😂
They should use the actual “ullah” in this one
So they aren't even going to stick to the source material? If so, even Steven Spielberg made the wise decision to make the tripods look and sound somewhat intimidating while keeping to the original aesthetic.
(But then again the Aliens in that film looked garbage.)
@@devincrawford6508 I was 7 when that film came out and the Aliens scared me a little tbh but yeah they were not good; actually the same kind of crap as Zathura aliens.
@@TheStingyRay What the jumanji in space movie where the Aliens are literally just lizard people?
I love the description of the alien in the musical adaptation taken from the book. "Two disc like eyes appeared above the rim. A huge bulk, larger than a bear rose from the pit, it's lipless mouth quivered and slavered whilst Snake like tentacles writhed as the clumsy body heaved and pulsated"
I haven't quoted exact but I've yet to see anything even remotely instilling the same creepy fear in any of the movies or TV adaptations.
Richard Burton's delivery of those lines is legendary,
Let's hope it's, better than the pile of crap the BBC served up.
I couldn't even watch a full episode of that it was so bad. It is such a good concept/story but nobody can seem to do it right. Very strange.
@@theanunnaki334 except for Tom Cruise, there's nothing that man can't ace.
@@russellg3775 it was alright but still lackimg on some parts. The story seemed to just jump about. I watched it again a year or so ago and it just looks cheesy now.
Nothing can beat the original and it was X-Rated too.
Yet we still have to pay for their crap
I honestly can say this show is not bad at all I can tell they have a lot of surprises in store cause they only show you so much in the trailer
its not bad
just dull
7 Episodes into Series 1 and find myself mostly rooting for the Aliens.
Trailer doesn't look great. The BBC version was sh1te. Think the Tom Cruise one's the best so far.
Try the novel, or an audiobook of it. That's the best experience of the story. I agree the Spielberg version, I guess that's the one you mean (there were three War of the Worlds movies made in 2005), is a very good effort.
@@cartwright8920 thanks for the tip, i did really enjoy the first half of the tom cruise movie, but then it went meh as it went on, and a really rushed ending.
Your not hungry either? Okay, thats fine. *chucks bread at window*
The Tom Cruise one sucked. The fighting machines were cool, but that's it.
1953 Movie be awesome.
Hope its better than the BBC’s excuse. That really was dire.
you do realise that the BBC version was based of of the book because the book was made in the 20th century, i prefer the bbc version
enderfox169 it was nothing like the book. Sorry, but we are going to have to agree to disagree. The BBC’s version was an insult to HG wells.
@@enderfox1699 Apart from the time period, there's very little in the BBC drama that follows the book. Go read it again.
enderfox169 The BBC version was barely based on the book, had a completely inexcusably useless side story they kept messing up the show’s pacing with. They also had trouble really making it genuinely dramatic and this I think comes from bad sound engineering and lack lustre composition.
It was just a mess.
@@glynngarnerelectricalltd3313 give me an example, cause the BBC version was closer to being based off of the book than War of the Worlds 2005 and the way things look in War of the Worlds 2020 series
I want a new Day of the Triffids with Tom Cruise. The old BBC series is still the best.
Well it can't be worse than the BBC version. (I hope).
Oh it is .....
This ones about zombies
😅😅😅
Oh it can.
You fucked up
The BBC version was absolute trash.
Hope this is better
Thinking same thing.
Trash is more interesting than the BBC offering
It was so bad. And somehow boring. Yes- you can make a story about an alien invasion and mankind on the precipice boring.
It was not trash.
@@pauldavenport949 No.
"Is it over?"
"It hasn't even started."
Two Epps worth before it becomes a drama with the Aliens screaming “Look at me! I’m over here” as the cast concern them selves with feelings and affairs

I'm liking the look of this.. I feel like they've left plenty out so we will be gloriously surprised.
Lee Nolan yes that’s why they left plenty out lee mate... 🤐
My introduction to the unforgettable Daisy Edgar-Jones 😊
It’s OK, you can just appropriate the titles of H. G. Wells’ works, you don’t need to actually bother properly adapting it. Just look at the new ‘The Invisible Man’ film - that’ll probably make a mint.
Heck, it’s not as if it’s some of the most iconic sci-fi literature that’s stood the test of over a century - nah, all Wells was good for was titles.
Exactly. This is a travesty.
Jeff waynes musical version conjures up a far more terrifying and desperate portrayal of Mr Wells book than any version to date.
No one would have believed in the early years of the 21st century that the BBC would get it so wrong.
No one could have dreamed it could have been so crap.
Few men even considered it to be ok.
And yet, across the gulf of the atlantic, minds supposedly superior to ours regarded this great story with envious eyes and slowly and surely unleashed this version upon us.
Obviously imagine Richard Burton reading this 😁
Well said that Topman
If I'm being honest, it looks boring.
@Serial Killa how would you know it's actually really good?
@Serial Killa I see
Serial Killa for all we know you watch shit
Serial Killa it looks shit.
@Serial Killa its actually extremely boring and dragged out. 2 dimensional characters with mundane back stories. Low budget production with robot alien dogs. All 8 episodes could have been wrapped up in 4. Its a boring cliched drama dressed up pretending to a scifi show.
Already looks better than that effort by the BBC. Fingers crossed it is!!
No tripods no Jeff Wayne
Jeff's version was the only one to get it right!
They should make a live action version incorporating the Jeff Wayne music and the ullaa cry. Just think, Thunder Child, Spirit of Man and the main theme. Would be amazing but prob hard to get right.
@@mjd5966 Agree. Even an animated version would be interesting. The atmosphere on the original is fantastic. I still have'nt seen it live.
Cool trailer = cool show. This series has both of them

The Amazing Lightning McQueen 2018 Auttp Rocks Igglepiggle and his friends are going to react to this trailer soon.
Igglepiggle336 LightningMcqueen909 ok
Why does another The War of the Worlds adaptation take place in modern times??? Just make it book accurate for once! It's not that hard!
Why the bleep can't we just have a tv or film version of Jeff Wayne's version?
It's not too much to ask.
Right. The BBC one was overkill.
This show has to somehow make their interpretation of War of the Worlds different to all the rest (including the book). The result is that it starts to loose it's grasp of what it is and instead becomes something wildly different *which is not good* .
A brand new series? Didn’t we just have the same one months ago? 🤣🤣
Yep lol
How about a sequal? Jeff's Wayne's master piece had a stunning ending of us visiting mars
For the people who have no idea war of the worlds is about aliens are gonna think it is a civil war or some world war 3 stuff because the aliens were never put in.
okay this show nothing like war of the worlds but it does have the basic plot: aliens coming to earth and killing everyone other then that nothing like the original that being said its enough of a original plot to make it enjoyable
Either they are really hiding all the aliens and tripods and keeping it for the actual show, or this will be pure rubbish. Hate Sci-fi that is just a bunch of people talking.
It’s just a bunch of people talking and a bunch of weird sci-fi tropes mashed together
Finally in the UK! I saw an episode of this when I was in Malta in November on their FOX channel. I liked it but was coming back home so never knew if it would ever air here!
Expected allot from the BBC version, sadly it was very badly done, this better be worth my time but I'll give it a go.
We've had a war of the worlds tv show not to long ago. It was set in the Victorian era and it was shit.
I mean, the original was set in the Victorian era. The TV show fell flat because it was plain terrible at being a TV show
@@ripecontext Yeah it was just far too slow and they did nothing original with the tripods. I still thing the 1953 film was the best version.

At least, they should've change the name. It's damn hard to find this. There are 3 Wotw god damn it....
Episode 5... Still no tripods lol
People dont watch it stopped after 9 episodes left stranded thinking wtf
Great version in 1953 then squat.
The tripods in the 2005 adaptation were good, and it had Tom Cruise. That one understood what people wanted to see in a War Of The Worlds movie (even if it was a limited amount). If this one had that and extra 'war' scenes then it'll be good imo.
@@lyfe8349
Agree .You can't have war of the worlds without tripods. The Fox offering looks like it will disappoint, shame.
The trouble is, with every absolutely shite rendition of War Of The Worlds we get, that's one less chance we have of seeing a faithful adaptation.
How many times has this been bastardised? And we still haven't seen anything that matches the original work or even the musical.
This is so cool, I'm addicted. People are moaning that the tripod aliens aren't in it. The point is that this is a re-imagined version, it's not a like for like remake. The aliens are amazing, and they get revealed very slowly to drag you in. Well done Fox.
People are moaning because it's a dragged out drama dressed up as a sci fi show that focuses on the mundane back stories of 2 dimensional characters we end up not giving a shit about. All 8 episodes could have been wrapped up in 4.
@@grayantihero6059 everyone is entitled to an opinion. If we both walk into a shop and someone says pick a favourite wine, the chances are we will enjoy a different one!!
Seen it, Forget any W.O.T.W. Connection, And think of it as a sci-fi Thriller. I enjoyed it.
That sounds like a bad WOTW movie... all people want to see are the tripods from the 2005 version fighting against humanity. How is that so hard to understand. If you ain't got the budget for that then just dont do it. Or dont call it 'War Of The Worlds'
FFS are we ever going to get a decent HMS Thunderchild battle?
I know the Royal Navy is short of ships nowadays but a modern version of the battle with a type 45 making it’s last stand would be a great update.
If you pitted a Martian fighting machine circa 1899 my money is on the type 45
Muddyboy Crossaxel Mabye update the Martian tech to make it the epic but inevitable final battle of a type 45 incarnation of Thunderchild.

Not gonna lie its actually quite good I enjoyed it a lot
Can’t be any worse than the recent BBC version. It just can’t be.
That’s what they said about he animated titanic movies
I liked the BBC one
It's actually way way better- but has a very very... French touch to it.
Not for everyone's taste.
I enjoyed it and hope for a season 2.
Oh, you mean the one where they had to spoon-feed the audience the message that the novel was anti-colonial by having a five minute lecture on imperialism in front of a black child. (Neither of which were in the book). Managing to be condescending and tokenistic while pretending to be the opposite. HG Wells was more subtle at least.
On the other hand, the black spheres were pretty cool.
At least that was closer to the source material
Nobody has ever improved this story, in any significant way as far as I am aware.
All that's needed is for the original story in its original setting and time to be lovingly brought to the big screen complete with tripods, (tripods with 3 legs, you'd think it wouldn't need specifying but, well... ).
There should be plucky Britshers complete with, new fangled Lee Enfield Rifles, red coats, pith helmets filling the vital role of 'Puny Earthmen'. At Some point someone needs to shout; "our weapons are useless", in a nod to all B movies. Of course everybodies favourate torpedo ram, HMS Thunderchild striking a blow for Queen and Country must be a jaw dropping set piece confrontation.
No reboots, no Mary Sue characters, no bold re-imaging, no unexpected plot twist, no set up for a sequal, no gender swapped characters, no examination of LGBTQ issues (the aliens will kill anyone regardless of such concerns), no cringe worthy use of diverse cast full of people from other countries and races who wouldn't have been there at the time for the sake of 'sending a message,' no alternative universe, no jarring use of modern hipster speech in the dialogue, no all femal cast.
Why is it that Hollywood repeatedly manages to not make that movie?
Carlos Tommy Baggs and the aliens need to be octobrains from Mars that arrive in cylinders
@@cartwright8920 with hatches that unscrew slowly... YES!
