- A look at a recent build I did locally. The bike was purchased used locally and the ebike kit is from Amazon (see link below). For under $2,000 you get a bike that performs and rides like it is above $3,000. The power and range of the BBS02 kits are fantastic and are a great value alternative to fully manufactured ebikes. The biggest plus is you get a frame and components that are much higher quality than a typically under $2,000 ebike.

That's an excellent build!
Thank you, the bike really came together well!
You are right, JohnnyNerdOut is very good.
looks comfy Jim :) :)
Tim, it sure was. I was inclined to tell the guy it was going to need extended testing before I handed over the keys. He is super happy with the setup. Cheers!
We're building fatty bafang with the S02. Can you tell us which kickstand you inststalled and what changes you made to center the pedals and to get a good chainline. Thanks
I didn't buy the kickstand for this one since I built it for someone. You can use standard bottom bracket shims, amzn.to/45sidvo. I have been lucky to have pretty good chainlines on all my builds. If you need to get the chain closer to the frame Lekkie has nice offset chainrings.
hello, I would like to buy a kona wo 2022 to install a bbshd 1000w 120mm, but I wonder if it's possible because of the very wide rear shape of the frame which accepts 4.8 tires, especially with the bafang chainring in 46 teeth... what do you think? could it be complicated? Thanks for your help!
Hey thanks for the question. The conversion is definitely possible, the issue you will run into is if you can get a 46-tooth on the front. Looking at that frame I'd be surprised if anything over 30 teeth will fit. You may be able to shim the chainring out but then you are going to run into chain line issues. You can run a small ring up front but the BBSHD doesn't really work well on under 14 tooth rear cogs so you could be in a low gearing conundrum that may or may not work for your use. I'd try to find a frame in person if you could, if you can measure the offset from the drive side of the bottom bracket to a few points, you should be able to figure out your options. I hope that is helpful.
Thank you very much, I think the same thing
what is the bike's bottom bracket size? I thought bbs02 only fit 68-73mm bottom brackets, not fat bikes.
You can get the BBS02 in any size, this one was 100mm, they did send the wrong one first so it is a special request for the non 68-73 one.
@@ElectronSurfer I went to your affiliate link but couldn't find the option for 100mm. Would I need to email them for the special request?
@@specagent999 It is a weird process. You can either try the "email seller" route or note it when you order it. They are supposed to message you after the order to confirm bottom bracket size and sometimes chainring teeth. I only installed this kit, I didn't buy it. I will look into it some more.
Hope you can help me out I'm new to this does my battery has a smell to it is it normal?
The chemistry should not create any smells like a lead acid battery would. A burnt controller or BMS will create a smell, what does it smell like?
I was looking to put a bbs02 on my salsa but its a 120mm bracket. Appears im stuck with the bbshd
I am seeing the bbs02 offered with 120mm advertised on Amazon. I'd message the seller to make sure or call California Ebike if you are in the US.
@@ElectronSurfer i saw that after I posted. Its a modded motor. You can get the kit and do it yourself for 1/3 the price
Where are you located? I see it looks like California but what area? I am going to make an ebike.
Hey there, good name! I am in Sacramento. What type of ebike are you looking to make?
@@ElectronSurfer Hi. I am in Los Angeles. I am making a Bafang 750 watt BBS02. I am making it out of a 2020 Giant Talon 3 27.5. Should be great. I learned a lot about the building of eBikes by watching JohnnyNerdOut. I like your channel too but I just discovered you today! I liked and subscribed!
@@jamesgibson3242 Welcome, I'll be posting a few more builds soon a folding bike BBSHD and a Cargo bike BBS02. If you run into any snags, just reach out! Cheers.
@@ElectronSurfer Thank you very much Electron. I appreciate it!
any issues? debating between 02 and HD
None to date on this build. The only issues I have seen to date have been 1 blown controller by a guy who rides his HD off-road on tons of hills. Other than that, for me, both the HD and 02 have been great.
@@ElectronSurfer thanks!!
Hello friend I buy bai zifu ebike but I want a bafang ebike for it in charge before it reaches me 😅😊
Do you mean you want a bafang setup but already ordered a different e bike??

thanks for watching
so you dont believe in stopping at stop signs?
Do you stop at every sign on your bike, I sure hope so with this comment? I was riding in my neighborhood which I know very well.
In australia the police are stricter and if you lose enough penalty points you will lose your drivers licence. you know everyone that will drive in your neighbourhood and not obey the road rules
@@waynethomas3638 well this isn't some commie shithole like Australia. Although California is pretty damn close.
@@waynethomas3638 Don't be a kook mate. Even here in Australia no-one would completely stop at a four way intersection when there is clearly no-one around. It's not like he didn't slow down and look before riding through.
@@mick9850 so you're saying that if you drive through a stop signed corner a copper in australia won't stop and fine you?
