  • The Southeast Gassers Association is one of the premier nostalgia drag racing groups in the world. Though it started small, the group has been pleasing fans and challenging its racers for nearly 10 years. The group is led by Quain Stott, a championship winning drag racer who is dedicated to paying tribute to the heroes of drag racing's past by reliving the glory days. He does so with period correct gassers, built to 1960's specifications, with exceptions for safety and car durability. The Southeast Gassers Association thrills fans with wild wheelstands, high revving burnouts and side-by-side heads up action. Follow along as I explain a little bit about the Southeast Gassers Association rules package and show you some footage from the 2020 SEGA event at Knoxville Dragstrip in Maynardville, TN.
Be sure to subscribe to ‪@SoutheastGassersAssociation‬ on CZcams.

I love gassers. Back in the sixties I had a subscription to Hot Rod magazine. It was loaded with gassers. I always loved the stance with the straight front axle. I thought the early funny cars we’re cool too.when I think off a drag car the gasser is the first thing I think of. To me there’s nothing cooler than a 55’ Chevy gasser. Great video

While watching these races, I can smell the air. I love going to SEGA events. You need to treat yourself and watch a SEGA event at Shady Side Dragway in Shelby, NC. I was fortunate enough to watch a handful of these races there and it was the best drag racing I've ever been to. A lot of these cars I recognize and it's too cool to watch them online. Took some of my favorite photos with these cars. Definitely worth checking out!

It was the advent of the B&M Hydromatic transmission back in 1963 that brought about the big changes in the Gas coupes and sedan class' because now a stock bodied car could work with an all out racing engine. I was there... I know. It was a very big deal when Junior Thompson with his '46 Studebaker coupe pulled off the first wheelstand in a door car. The Street Roadster and the Modified Sportscar classes were basically the same other than body type. In the early days, the gassers were required to start their engines with starter motors and return to the pits under their own power. That all changed. The engine had to be mounted not more than 25% of the wheelbase measured from the front end spindles to the centerline of the rear wheels at the first spark plug.
It was wonderful when the NHRA instituted the Modified Production class for the guys with street rods that couldn't compete with the gassers anymore.

I'm glad the driver of Taz is all right. But I got to tell you, I much rather see these cars take to the track and get aired out like they were made to be, then sit in somebody's yard rot in hell away. You know race cars crash it's what happens. But I got to give the guy mad respect, cuz he didn't lighten up he flogged that car, and that's what the hell they were made to do. If I had the money I'd rebuild it for him. I'd like to thank him for not babying that shit. The 40 41 Willys is one of my favorite cars of all time, it sucks that somebody dumped oil on the track and got them loose at the big end, but let's face it that's drag racing. You think I want to see a 1960s Gasser go out there and pussyfoot it? Hell no. The man gave it the beans all day. Mad respect.

First thing I have always loved gases . I never will forget the Ohio gang . Many good names . They would go from dragstrip to dragstrip challenge and anyone that was there they challenge anyone at the local track of course not many people could beat them . One of the guys was the guy that owned Mr. gasket . Then it was Eddie's filthy 40 . I agree with most of what he's done . I don't agree to the cars bouncing that's extremely dangerous . Then the ET rule I understand . But back in the 60s when I went racing I want to know how fast they were . Street outlaw's does that silly stuff . That's because the cars on fast as they say they are . It's treated laws also allows traction control . Which no one allows .. I watched this clown Mike Finnigan with his gasser . You could build a pro stock car for what he put in that car . In all aluminum hemming motor . He shifts the car like a 90-year-old man . The gasses that I remember they could shift so fast you had to look in the car to be sure was a four-speed . The jolly dolly was an immaculate 39 Chevy . Bob Bernardin on the car he was a machinist by trade . So the call was absolutely perfect . It would go straight every time and he was shift like Ronnie socks . At my local track we had a car called the bluebird and it was pretty nice to but not his detailed . Then the local dragstrip owner had a 55 Chevy C gasser . We thought it was fast . Until the Ohio gang came and cleaned his clock . Keep up the good work . By the way if you ever stop to think about maybe starting a museum .
