I've been retired from this for about 16 yrs and usually don't see anybody using my way of grinding down the welds. I always used a 1/4x 3" 3M wheel on my die grinder just like you and its the best way. Some guys use a 3" disk and that takes off to much panel metal. Your doing it right youngster.👍

I do it the same way. Best way to keep from grinding the metal paper thin.

I haven't learned how to yet, but I also haven't seen it on oem procedures yet. I'll have to look more into it. Thanks for suggesting !

@@AUTOBODYTECH I can only recommend it to you, I've only been welding bodywork like this with cusi3 for 7 years. With cusi3 you have better rust protection for galvanized body panels, significantly less heat input during welding, the weld seams are much easier to grind down and yet the weld seams are high-strength. You can also weld cusi3 with your existing welding machine. Just a Teflon core in the hose package and argon 4.6 as a protective gas and another roll of Cusi3 wire and then you can get started. It's also much nicer when sanding. If you grind the cusi3 weld seam there are no sparks. This way you know exactly that you are only grinding the weld seam and not the sheet metal on the left and right.

What kind of grinding disk are you using?

It's a 3 inch mirka cut-off wheel, but the thick ones

Stop letting that shop make you use junkyard quarter panels. It’s new panels or fuck off is what I say. Thats a thing of the past wastes time for you and the shop. Nice butt joints by the way
