  • His Grace, Prince Richard, The Duke of Gloucester visited Greenhead Park, Huddersfield, to pay tribute to the impactful Sikh soldier memorial statue.
This 6ft Indian bronze figure, standing proudly on Yorkshire stone, commemorates the sacrifices of Sikhs who fought bravely in both World Wars. Unveiled after 10 years of planning in 2019, the monument stands tall as the only one of its kind in northern England.
Sikhs played prominent roles in both conflicts. The closest estimates report that 83,005 Sikhs gave their lives on the battlefields of the two World Wars, with 109,045 wounded in battle across the world.
