Over 3 years since the release of The Last of Us 2 and its hectic ending and with 2023 ending already I discuss The Last of Us 2 Multiplayer Game and the latest news and updates we have after Naughty Dog confirmed a delay to the multiplayer game several months ago. 2023 is nearly over and I expect The Last of Us Multiplayer Game to get its big update/reveal likely in 2024 now with Naughty Dog's Silence continuing! Since we know Naughty Dog is making a standalone The Last of Us 2 Multiplayer Game that is coming in what looks like to be 2024/2025 based on Neil Druckmann who said the news is planned for later this year! Neil Druckmann was recently asked on the status of the project saying no update! Druckman said he had “no update” on Factions, and no comment more generally on the future of TLOU, that game included: Naughty Dog finally announced that they are creating something much larger than a mode. With concept art from the upcoming multiplayer experience, which is an extremely ambitious undertaking. Naughty Dog is growing their studio significantly to ensure they build this full-scale, standalone game, with its massive scope and immense world, in a way that fans have come to expect from The Last of Us and Naughty Dog. Everyone is looking forward to The Last of Us 2 Multiplayer which is one of the most anticipated things people have been expecting from Naughty Dog! As of today dec 14 2023 they have stopped developing this game… it’s cancelled & im so disappointed & heart broken.

I blame bungie and playstation for not trusting naughty dogs vision. Neil is probably as frustrated as us and his hands are probably tied and he's unable to speak about it. Just my guess.

Honestly, if the ‘No Return’ rougelike mode being added to Part II had co-op I’d be quite satisfied with that being the Part II multiplayer mode. Having MP in the ‘No Return’ mode would’ve been satisfying much in the same way that Factions in TLoU or Ghost of Tsushima MP is satisfying, in that it’s a fun addition leveraging the more fun aspects of the combat and gameplay with other people. I don’t understand why they can’t make the simple and obvious choice to make a fun but not too large MP mode leveraging already built gameplay systems, as they did with Factions originally.

Rocksteady last game came out in 2015 and Rockstar last game was in 2018. I don't think we should be worried when their last game was 2020.
I am glad someone pointed this out - I dont see what the issue is, my hope is they are buried deep in production of new games - whether that is factions, TLOU3, or the much rumoured other game that they hint at, but offer nothing at all.

It’s not so much it’s been 3 years it’s that they’ve announced and talked it an promised updates while Sony has now trying to likely revert from the MP live service after blowback, plus the leaks, plus the Bungie thing..plus we’ve only gotten remake/director cuts of the 2 games in between the promise we are showing it soon. They only need to do damage control and talk hey this isn’t coming or this is coming and here is what we have. It’s not a project in pre production it’s been in the works aslomg as 2 has, albeit probably in different forms but Rockstar didn’t say after RDR2 released hey next GTA is coming we can’t show you, we all knew it but they waited to announce officially and 2 weeks later we get visuals. I just don’t see why we haven’t even gotten a teaser of the game while they keep being ambiguous on other projects along this

Call me crazy but I’d MUCH rather have a new reimagined factions game than No Return. Even if it was multiplayer, it certainly doesn’t seem nearly as ambitious as what they were going for. Playing against real people keeps things interesting imo.

Remasters and remakes are not new games they're just re-release and some import with new consoles with remakes. So how long will naughty dog will keep doing remasters and remakes. They haven't done one single original story video game

Can we stop assuming "still working on 'that game" means TLOU multiplayer. Its simply a broad statement theyre using to keep all the fans happy and to let imaginations run wild.
He's referring to a specific game when he says, "that game." There would be no reason for him to come out and say he's still working on it unless people believed it was canceled. He is the game director of The Mulitplayer project so it's obvious he's talking about The Last of Us Online.

I'm kind of excited to play the Multiplayer game too. I'm definitely more hyped for The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered and the New Content that's going to be included along with it more than the Multiplayer game right now mainly because we haven't really gotten a trailer for The Multiplayer game yet. The Roguelike Survival Mode No Return looks awesome and the new outfits for Joel and Ellie look amazing as well! I can't wait to play The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered on January 19th next year too! It will be great!☺

If we don’t get anything at TGA then I don’t think we are ever getting this thing and if we are it’s 2025 minimum…honestly I just would rather they show us a new IP that has been in progress…come 2025 we see pt3 announcement and hopefully a release for 2026. They REALLY have to either step away from the world or go full on transparency. Just tack this on to a pt3 now…it’s insane they have not even shown us the game or a trailer yet. Waiting three plus years to get a game out of your favorite studio isn't something out of ordinary. Imagine how long fans of Rockstar had to wait for GTA6? Remember red dead 2 came out in 2018. Lets look at studios that release games in 2020, same year part 2 came out. Animal cross horizon, where is next animal crossing game after 3 years? Doom eternal came out that year too, have we heard anything about next Doom game yet? Ghost of Tsushima came out in 2020, where is the sequel? Hades also another game release in 2020, they announce the sequel but still didn't have a release date yet. Dude, 3 years is not that long in terms of waiting for favorite studio to release a game, look at how long Bethesda fans have to wait to get their next single player RPG, fallout 4 came out in 2014.
I mean yeah but Factions fans just assumed that TLOU 2 was going to come with a multiplayer right off the bat back when it was announced at the end of 2016. Expectations for the multiplayer began since then not since they announced that it wasn't gonna make it to launch on 2020. So 7 years and realistically whatever factions they're making is not gonna live up to those expectations considering that if we're lucky we'll get it around this time next year.
I can see why the multiplayer for the last of us is not being shown so much and then being silent because they probably don’t want this to be a flop the last of us is one of PlayStations biggest IP they own it not only would it hurt the company at naughty dog also will hurt the fans😔

WLF Edition SOLD OUT after I spent hours trying to purchase this with multiple debit and gift cards. The Sony site has problems with Billing addresses. I keep getting the run around adding the WLF edition to my cart. I was trying to buy this the minute it was for sale. The BIG problem with the order site is PO Box can not be used as shipping but also not even for billing address. My card uses PO Box for billing but Sony would not accept this so now I lost opportunity to buy it before selling out. Now I have to pay $400 on Amazon to get it second had or whenever someone decides to scalp the game. ANGRY is an understatement.

kind of annoying how every update we get from ND is how they aren’t working on anything - especially things that fans haven’t directly asked for. (remastered for part 2 and hbo season 2 for example) don’t get me wrong i’m excited for both but it feels like THEIR projects more than anything. fans have every right to be upset considering factions has been in talks for ages now, which is the one thing people really wanted and yet again..no updates at all. the new survival mode for remaster solidifies for me that factions will not be coming anytime soon. why release something so similar for them to drop factions a month later? i doubt we will hear anything until mid 2024 unfortunately :/

When Neil and naughty dog were originally hyping up the game it was waaaayyyy before all that stuff happened with Bungie. But notice, since the Bungie BS he and no one else has been hyping it up any more. If they're actually starting from scratch on the development side it makes sense he would say "No Update". Its simply not in a place thats worth mentioning. the worst thing he and all those guys could do at this point is hype it up even more until its buried 6 ft under. The best move is to not make any more false hope for this until there's actually some progress being made. At this point if you had any expectations he would say anything other that he said, then thats more on you than anyone else.
Boycott the remaster pt2 and send ND a message that we refuse to spend money on a company that won’t announce new projects that are not remasters

I feel like naughty dog is very concerned about announcing too much too early, and staying quite tight lipped in general when possible. While bungie likely put the game to death, it’s likely that Sony isn’t exactly hyped about their judgement when bungie has been making basically the worst decisions possible in the past few months. Bungie is in a state of full blown collapse. Ironically if bungie gets taken over by Sony they could become a part of the team for the game, likely at the cost of destiny 2 after its final expansion. As is the case for the past 3 years or so, there are so many what if’s in the picture to give any proper prediction. I’d like to think this game releases eventually, but I find it shocking that they haven’t seemed to just scale down the project. The ambition of this title is insane assuming it is naughty dog quality across the board. MMOs with thousands of devs can barely keep up and the graphics are often quite poor, way less demanding to run, and have a subscription model to keep the company afloat due to the obscene costs of live service titles. The last of us on the other hand is quite demanding graphically, and that’s with no major open world sections which the game seems intent on creating. A ps5 would struggle, and frankly 95% of PCs would too without some incredible optimization. Next up, their audience aren’t MMO players willing to pay subscriptions, and MMO players aren’t going to be picking up a shooter with way less depth than ff14 or the like. It feels like they are trying to make a huge version of the division, but just everything cranked. Fluent animations, highly detailed worlds, an insanely elaborate instance based multiplayer section (like destiny 2 does in its open world), and on top of that a full blown story, multiple modes, and all of that running on a console. Considering the struggle the game has had druckmann is right to just say no update. No point in sending people on this emotional rollercoaster again every 3 months, especially when they aren’t even certain the project is feasible. I’d like to think it is, but I’m not a dev studio who has to make the math work on budget.

@@DomTheBomb however naughty dog has a serious clock to deal with now as GTA - 6 is coming in 2025 and if naughty were to release the muiltiplayer around that games launch they might not get the players that they want because GTA-6 is a big deal and players will be playing that game hard core when it comes out so that means they gotta put the muiltiplayer out soon or they are gonna have to wait another 6 months at lest after the launch of GTA-6 to try and get players to switch and keep them long term it’s definitely gonna be an issue for them now

Sorry but holding them onto something they said BEFORE the game has been delayed is stupid. Sure, they said that we will see more in 2023 but then all the issues with the project began, it has been officially pushed back and in my mind any statements they had made before that are no longer valid. You demanding the updates on the basis of comments they've made before the delay even though you have absolutely no idea what is the current condition of the project is totally irrational. I've never seen any studio give any inside information like this. They always keep things close to the chest and give vague answers until they are ready to show anything. Right now it is more reasonable to ask for news about their next singleplayer game since that seems to be going as planned.
I think it would be better if we just had confirmation from Neil on if the project is fine or not I understand but this has been a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs compared to what fans expected I just think a simple acknowledgment from him would suffice
@@DomTheBomb What if there's nothing to acknowledge? The last official news we had is that the game has been delayed. From the leaks it seems that they went back to the drawing board to review the issues and potential solutions. It is likely that they themselves do not know yet what to do with it. There are 3 options. The first is that they didn't manage to fix the game and it got canceled. News like that are difficult to break and it has to be done at a time when it will hurt the image of the studio the least. So preferably in the midst of hype for their other big project. I would not expect them to confirm the game's cancellation before the announcement of their next game or maybe even its release. Second option is that the game will actually be salvaged and released. In that case they will not give us anything until they are certain that the new version of the game is working and they have something to show that actually represents the game we're gonna get. And the third option is that Factions 2 will be implemented in TLOU3. In that case they can't say anything until the game is revealed. In any case, expecting them to give updates on the game that has been delayed and put on hold while you have absolutely no idea about its condition and current status is ridiculous. Bringing up their promise of showing us more in 2023 is also ridiculous since those statements were made before the delay. What you're asking for is some deep behind the scenses info that I've never seen any studio give, especially on troubled projects.

I think the No Return Roguelike Survival Mode will be awesome! I can't wait to play as Ellie, Dina and Lev too! It would be awesome if we get to play as Joel as well!☺We have the Lost Levels to explore in The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered too so both of those new features will definitely keep gamers busy until Naughty Dog releases their next game.

Well if you haven't heard the news from today I suggest you take a look at what naughty dog just posted. They have admitted defeat. Instead of producing a simple sequel to factions their ambition got the best of them and has brought the project to ruin. The new multiplayer project, as it is, is too big for them to handle in conjunction with producing single player games. They have abandoned the multiplayer.

It's Sony and now apparently Bungie's decision and not Naughty Dog what they can do. It's become a microtransaction nightmare when it comes to online gaming. Sony seeing only big dollar signs with ongoing transactions doesn't give a shit about somebody's pet project. Unless that project fits the mold it's not going to go anywhere. Believe me I'm one of the most ardent supporters of factions and I've been playing since 2014. I would love to see something new but honestly I think they've missed the boat and until it's been reworked to fit the vision of Sony and Bungie it's just going to stay simmering on the back burner for a while. While I'm sure some are still working on it who are most closely affiliated to it it definitely seems like it's not a priority. What I wish and what I have are two different things. Personally I think they missed the boat on opportunities they had to update the original and add content to it to try and get a better market share and grasp on how to fasten it to the new market rules. But now since they've moved on to different platforms and advanced everything technologically the old game has been left in the dust. I feel your pain and I'll be looking for any news obviously but my enthusiasm and anticipation at this point are non-existent. I'm going to continue to enjoy what I have which is the original factions while it's still exists becauseas we all know nothing lasts forever. ☮️
