Happy New Year! I want to let everyone know that I just launched a Patreon page for this channel. The link is in the video description. Patreon is a way for viewers of my videos to show their support for the work I do and gain access to behind the scenes updates from me. I just launched the Patreon page today and I'm working on coming up with additional perks for Patrons. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you and thanks for watching.
I was so disillusioned after watching people on CZcams spray paint old pieces cobalt blue or lemon yellow. You have renewed my faith in mankind. Beautiful job!
Exactly!
It and will be good for another 70 years before the next restoration. You did a good job.
Excellent video! 💯
There is a fad going on in my region ( southeast) of taking pieces from about this same era painting it white and either wiping or sanding until it’s kind of streaky and then presenting it as “ farmhouse “. I am not very fond of this trend but it seems to be popular right now.
ugh, those "farmhouse" paint jobs are the worst.
I live in Southwestern PA and it's all the rage in this area. 🤮
it's truly tragic and such a waste of beautiful furniture.
The inlay is on one side because that table is part of a *three-table nesting set.* The one you have is the bottom/lowest of the three and when nested with the others, it slightly hangs into/onto the middle table above it, then the middle table hangs from the top table while the top-most table legs are always on the ground. The top table has a three-sided (back and sides) ½" lipped edge (not sure what that's called) to keep things from rolling off (?) but in any case, defines which side the "front" is and explains your, the smallest of the three tables's, decorative inlay. These things I know because I have the full--and all three prone to wobble--set. :) Wonderful to see it renewed!
How cool!
Very cool! I knew there had to be a reason!
Well he only had one, so I think it was/is a good idea!
I'd love to have those!!!
Nicely done. Beautiful little table.
I know its gonna be a good one when you test rock the table. LOL
Could be the inlay was on just the ‘outside’ where is could be seen & look special, but not on the other 3 sides to keep it affordable in a wartime or post-war aspirational economy.
That could be. Maybe it just had one show side.
I thought the same thing
I came to the comments to say the same thing, I used to restore old and antique furniture all the time and yes for something like this there would have been the one show side where extra would be done for appearances, and the rest would be left blank. If you ever get really bored go find old 1800’s tables and look at the joinery and craftsmanship that went into those.
I was also going to comment about that this could be the reason for the inlay on one side.
I love antique and vintage pieces because they hold such history. My husband on the other hand finds it stressful as I fill our house with a lot of furniture I find at second hand stores or the side of the road
My sister and I have been struggling to get the color of the legs and tops to match better. Thank you for the lessons. We feel your videos have improved the products we sell at our booths. Thank you for the details you record and your narrative. We are both in our mid/late 60’s. So “old dogs definitely can learn new tricks”.
I'm in my late 30's so you give me hope 😆🙏
God, I love the quiet of this. Ambient noise of leaves rustling at end is glorious. Thanks for giving us space to focus and learn AND relax
it cracks me up that this guy does everything outside in his driveway.
So true. Tho i feel it’s kind of sad the “ambient sound” seemed to be turned off for a second just after that apron cracked :-P
It's so much better to have just a voice speaking and the ambient sound than the darn music that plays all the time on other videos and you can hardly hear the person speaking...
Yes! Thanks for not using music! Beautiful job.
I use his videos to unwind at night to become relaxed for sleep
I love how the video is over 20 minutes long, yet already has over 50 likes despite having been posted less than 15 minutes in.
That's the love we have for Dashner. ❤ or for Mersman, which I have a piece of
CZcams has made an announcement recently, the number of 'dislikes' is going to be hidden soon on the platform ( only visible for the creators of the videos) :-)
I've always been a person who has enjoyed working with their hands and a DIYer. These videos have led me down the path of refinishing every piece of MCM furniture in our home and now visiting the Thrift Store on the corner by our home every other day. It's been a great savior for being basically home bound for over a year. It's a new skill and hobby I thank you for. I'm located in the Chicago area so I'm fighting the weather now and considering some garage heating.
I enjoy the work as well but no room left in my house. I’m thinking of donating projects to Habitat for Humanity.

Great job, wonderful to see the transformation. Merry Christmas!
Same here
@@barbarafling3790 why not sell your pieces on market place
Every time that i see your videos, i get angrier and angrier that we don't have thrift stores in my area, or somewhere close...
Jokes asides, as always, great rwstoration, piece and craftsmanship. Thank you for your effort to upload short, insightful, peaceful, and comprehensive videos.
It was fun to see this little gem restored. She's a beauty.
You brought that little table back from the dead!,,,and better than before ,,,when it was new,,,,I enjoy your work videos
An adorable end table gets a new lease on life. Bravo!
$5.00 turned into $75.00 in just under 23 minutes.. Love your videos!!!
It would be worth it to know how long it took in real time!
I’m always so amazed how they turn out. This is definitely a form of art.
I laughed when I saw you were doing this little table, but turned out there was plenty to do. You do great things with color and I never knew about inlays. Thanks for showing this project.
Still need a video tour of your home with all the pieces you have refinished over the years! :)
BEAUTIFUL ! i'm so happy you created a color that is true to the richness of mahogany and not that dark Bing cherry color,
( Manufactures made it easy on themselves to harmonize several different woods with extremely dark stains.) The completion of the inlay design ... Perfection ! Your keen eye for details has really made this table so much more than the original fabricators. Thanks !
I see these types of tables in the garbage all the time. I even rescued a couple until I got frustrated and threw them back on the garbage pile. This one came out great. Now I know what they need in order to shine.
As a former Minneapolitan for many decades, in addition to the very soothing and 'zen' quality of your videos, am living vicariously to experience your seasonal changes not to be found in SoCal. Memories of the autumnal, dappled sunlight, rustling leaves. Summer storms. Being out and about in those 'brisk' (sub zero) wintry days. All with their own unique sounds and smells. Real weather. Thank you for sharing your artistry, craftsmanship and lovely visuals. :)
Personally, I'm happy to leave the black ice and the snow shoveling behind. Looking at the leaves and overcast makes me shiver as I look out at the sunny weather and the mountains in the distance here in SoCal.
I wouldn’t leave Ohio for somewhere warm year round. I love the changing of the seasons, not matter what they bring.
I have been watching your channel for more than three years and this is the first time seeing you apply a decorative inlay. You're work is so instructive. Thank You
I have come to believe there must be a special place in heaven for people like you who rescue/restore beautiful old wood furniture.
Excellent craftsmanship. Beautiful wood colour and finish. An elegant little table! I am so pleased to see a restoration that totally keeps the integrity of the wood with its natural pattern and does not hide its grandness under a coat of paint! You have honoured the tree that sacrificed its wood. Because of your care this table will please people for generations to come. Bravo to you!
Most people would pass over this little table. You did an incredible job in bring it back to life.
It’s been years since I did any refinishing furniture. I love how you inlaid the aprons on this sweet little table. Your work of exceptional. Thanks for sharing. You are inspiring me to get back into it.
Gorgeous table. I’m thrilled seeing you refinish wood and not paint it. When I see someone paint over walnut I want to cry.
Just the right amount of explanation and narration along with superb restoration. Thank you.
It’s a cute little table, great job on the color matching!
What a transformation! This little table turned out quite handsome after your expert restoration. $5 and hours well spent. Thanks for sharing Dash :)
Oh my gosh when I lived in Wisconsin our family home had end tables exactly like that. This is personally my preference in tables. I like simplistic designs.
Lovely little table and saved from the landfill with a new life..
I find your video strangely peaceful...almost a meditative. It brought back memories of my Grandfather. He used to do carpentry as a hobby. He made some simple but beautiful things. Thank you 🙏. There is nothing as precious as the work of a mans hands. X
Since this was an inexpensive table when it was made, my guess would be that the inlay was only added to the “front”. I love that you added it all the way around. It sure turned out nice!
This is a different Viki replying. I have two very similar tables that were my grandparents and failing similarly, but mine are wider and have two shelves instead of one. Their inlay is just like this, across the front only. On mine it is clear there is a front. I think it was done this way to keep the price low yet look sharp.
Now that I look at my piece I speculate that the top edges of the one in the video may have been cut down to the shape it is now, and in it's original form it may have been obvious the inlay side was the front of the piece. The curved corners on the top I do not think are original. I appreciate these videos.
Excellent revival! That final finish speaks for it's self!
Thank you.
Love the glue and tape tip!
Something else that's important is, this table didn't and won't end up in a land fill. Great job as usual.
Very nice. Little tables at thrift stores and garage sales just call my name. I have a few! And they are usually easy to repair and refinish - never paint.
I LOVE that you rescued this little table from the trash! Well done sir!
Just goes to show that something not so young anymore, small and wobbly, like myself at 5ft 2in, at a “vintage” age and with a health condition, still has many more years of joy in front of it with just a little bit of TLC…
Amazing job as always ❤️
I used to be out of date, but now im vintage!
Everything about your video is just right... The lack of irrelevant noise is peaceful. Your calm and reassuring voice is one of an expert teacher. Additionally, I appreciated your determined response to a crack in the wood after the peg alignment was off. It was a nice example of showing us "growth mindset" and "grit", something we all need when working on any goal and project. You definitely have a new subscriber!
They have a lot of nerve charging 5 dollars for this piece, but you lovingly brought it back to life! Great job 👏
Hey, it's $5 worth of wood and mahogany veneer, with the wood already shaped for the table. Think of it as a table kit. Cheap at the price. 😁
A new video! My Sunday evening just got better!
I thought that table was a goner -- but you revived it and made it lovely.
One request.... can you please show us how many different clamps you actually have? There seems to be an endless supply and they are not all the same. :-D Thanks!
No to mention he can clamp the tiniest thing to very long tables!! I’d love to see it too.
That would be a great video! It seems that he has every style ever made... 🤣
I always enjoy your calm voice and the bird songs in the background. It is so refreshing to enjoy a video without techno music. Thank you.
I just wanted to thank you for making your interesting and easy to watch videos, I stumbled upon your channel recently as I've been terminally sick and bed bound, I really enjoy your videos, please keep making them :)
Looks like my great grandmothers bedside table which also only had extra details on one side. Lovely thank you for your care and kindness to this piece.
That rich red table over fall leaves is a really nice touch.
Sir this is the first time that I have seen your channel and I must admit that I have never enjoyed such a demonstration of your work, are you going to such detail and explaining everything is refreshing to hear and watch someone take their time and explain the steps that you were doing to bring this piece back to life thank you so much
What beautiful work you do!
You explain and make it look so easy with your editing, that you make me think that I could do it too - but of course the reality is very different...🤭
For now, I'll continue watching your vids, and fantasize about being a master craftsman...😊
Looking forward to your next vid.🤞😉
Well, study and practice is how anything is mastered. One c an start with an easy project and work up to more complex ones.❤
Incredible. Just beautiful. And no music! How satisfying.
Your work is genious! I didn't think warped veneer could be restored! I am a quilter and I watch/listen to videos while I sew. I got no sewing done today...I was gluded to the videos!
Yes I am happy with pre loved furniture. All my furniture can tell u a tale. My father in law fed my interest n taught me so much about re using furniture. For a few minutes I was helping my father in law restore you lovely table. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful finished piece
Yess! Always looking forward to these. Now, back to the video :D
As you always do, you turned a piece of junk into a really nice little table that will be useful once more and hopefully for a long time to come, and give someone a little joy to have it in their home. And you have made another video that calms the spirit! Thank you. 🙂
Thank you. I really enjoyed this tutorial. Love that you get right to it and don't over talk. Makes it nice and calm and easy to listen to.
Very nice!!!! Great job.
Thank you.
This finished table is fantastic! It was so much fun watching you complete every detail of this restoration. I am always impressed with your ability to so accurately do the color matching.
Thanks for the video.
Wow what a difference. Thank you for the lesson and saving a piece from the landfill. It looked like trash at first now it’s beautiful and if I didn’t see what you did I wouldn’t have believed it was the same piece and no doubt it looks better than new.
I love size of the table. Brilliant restoration.
So beutiful! And lovely end scene with the fall leafs🙌. It's great that you see the beauty and potential in things others would pass on!
This looks like it probably looked when it came home from the store. Amazing job! 💜
Another masterpiece from a true professional - well done :-)
That finish is gorgeous! And this was a great tutorial too, thank you!😁🇳🇱
Completely agree with you on coordinating different wood veneers. I have several Lane Acclaim pieces I've picked up over the years, and I can't stand when they're bleached within an inch of their life and are redone to almost appear red and white/blonde. Mine are still original finish, and not perfect, but good restorers are hard to find in my area. Great job on this table, as well!
Ooh! I have acclaim pieces too! And yesss, original finish is NOT deep red. Mine are also beaten up original finish. I've been working up the courage to refinish them myself, by watching Dashner :)
Very nice. I like your voice-over and no irritating music. Great work.
What a cute little table! That new inlay all around gave it a glow up! It's amazing what a simple embellishment can do.
👍I like how you not only explain what you do, but why you make the decision. It is helpful for someone who might like to try something similar.
absolutely so amazing. there's a reason i still watch every new video day of, two years after following!
My Mom used to do a lot of repairing of older furniture…I was too young to appreciate it then! ♥️🙏👍🇺🇸🤓
Removing brittle lacquer is so satisfying. And the table is happy.
I'm new to this but I often go too far with the sander ..I never know when it's enough ......
Also I used BIN on a bedside locker and then painted but it didn't seem to adhere correctly or dry ...any suggestions ?
@@AC-jr8bn Instinct often alerts when one has done enough sanding. You do not want to go through any veneer, if possible. A bedside locker? So, something metal? If BIN didn’t dry, could be the application was too heavy, or a second coat was put on before the first dried sufficiently. Dry-to-the-touch doesn’t necessarily mean thoroughly dry. Also, if the bedside locker wasn’t cleaned properly, paint or primer will not yield a good result as if the surface was cleaned of dirt and grime.
@@ashleywright8686 thanks a million for replying .
@@AC-jr8bn of course! We furniture refinishers need to stick together! I just subscribed to watch your transformation videos. You do excellent work.
I like that you put the inlay on all sides! Well done!!
The color looks great with the fallen leaves. A perfect match.
That came out beautifully. Lots of work, but you know your stuff. Thanks for showing us how to fix a project like that. Keep up your videos. Very helpful.
From trash to treasure, with care. Lovely.
I'm not sure what it was for when it was new. Perhaps a telephone table and a little shelf underneath for a telephone book. What it can be used for today is a printer table and use the shelf for printer paper. If it survives another 70 years who knows what they will have then to use it for. If you haven't purchased this it would have fallen apart and ended up in a land fill. You did a great job thank you for the video.
That was a lovely restoration. Simple furniture at its best.
Inlay really made the table look so much better. You have a nice voice, very restful. Surprised a voice talent scout hasn't discovered you.
Wow, beautiful 😍 ❤. Great job. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. ❤
What a beautiful little table!
Dang man you’re a miracle worker
Love that you don't paint, but love the wood grain
i was waiting for you to wobble it to show how sturdy it is now. it looks great!
This is one of your most dramatic transformations, really love it. I just would have let it be 2-toned but I appreciate your commitment to matching color.
A lot of work for a $5 table, but you transformed it into a little beauty.
This turned out beautifully. Love the subtle detail of the inlay, final color of the stain. It’s lovely.
What a great idea to put the inlays in and use the dowels! Loved the new look! I would have loved to see how this helped with the wobbliness of the table.
The end result is a little piece of art. I would love to admire it, daily. Thank you, for saving it, and for your wonderful sharing of knowledge, and time.
Hope you're doing well, Dash :)
Great job and the stain looks great. I like seeing these old pieces taken apart because I have alot of antiques myself that need repairs. 👍👍👍
That crack when inserting the dowels was scary, the inlay pattern makes me think of LED strips. Beautiful work ty.
It turned out great! I prefer watching the restoration of smaller pieces, great job.
Love this little table. Your time and $5 will service you for many years.
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 68 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼 ❤️ 🎀 ❤️ 🎀 ❤️ 🎀
A tip for you about gluing a split in the apron like that… no need to tape off your finish. PVA glue will wash off without marking the surface. I hope that’s helpful for you. Cheers. Scott 🇨🇦
Thanks, Scott.
Great job with lots of patience.
Charming table that you've given a second life to. Wood is so forgiving when you treat it right. Good job you did here!
Story of nice little table, told with an agreable voice.
Gorgeous outcome! Thanks for posting.
I like very much how you work, including that fitting idea of inlaying all round. your keep your "power tools" to a minimum which I appreciate as a gesture of artisanial skills, one wonders how all kind of furniture survived over the centuries so beautifully without "makita"
BEAUTIFUL JOB!!!! I like the "SIMPLE LINES" in this piece.
