Guys, give him a break. He's spent pretty much all of his guitar playing years playing fingerstyle guitar, so obviously his vibrato and bending accuracy isn't going to be at the expert level yet. He just wanted to try something new. To all of the guitarists trashing him in the "comments" section: I'd like to see you compare guitar playing resumes with Sungha; I'm willing to bet his would eat yours for breakfast any day.

Having been a guitar player for over 50 years, I can say with authority that Mr Jung is a bona fide prodigy -- a true musical genius. I have watched him (on video) put together a song for one of his videos. He listens to the original once, runs a few cord changes through his head, then records the video, usually unrehearsed. His performance is typically flawless. I assure you Mr Jung understands the nuances of tone as they pertain to the electric guitar, and had he taken time to tweak the tones on this song, he would have made you all proud. I'm willing to bet he set up this video in his home--not in a studio (as one other commenter already pointed out) without fretting over such detail in the interest of time. He was not intending to produce an album, but to throw together a quick, yet enjoyable, video. I, for one, am in awe of the man.

any Ritchie Blackmore cover is great! I appreciate the selection. I'm impressed at how easily Jung can cover this but also amazed at Ritchie's composition because as you may know he has great musical depth! Now here it comes - Legend has it that Ritchie Blackmore used almost zero distortion. He uses a Stratocaster with scalloped fingerboard and his tone was "all wood" plus very high amp levels. It's surprising how little distortion they all used in those days.

Gabriel Spinelli O que ele falou tá certo, a execução tá perfeita mas o timbre tá realmente muito ruim. Algo provavelmente deu errado na hora da gravação ou ele ligou a guitarra direto num pedal de distorção sem passar por algum simulador de ampli ou coisa do tipo.

Shake Jovi Filan People are finding his tone bad. The technique is alright. Not great, but good enough. The tone is in fact pretty bad, but it's probably because he doesn't have much experience with tone making. Tone making is an art, which requires years of trial and error. This video is a year old, and he has probably improved a lot by now.
Shake Jovi Filan nah m8 if you are a guitar lover then youd understand that the tone is bad..not something you'd expect from a gibson les paul...technique wise he nailed it...but thats half part of a cover...you have to have a good tone on your amp to make it excellent

To non-guitarists who don't understand why people finger point his tone, setting the right tone for the song is a very important part of being a good guitarist. It is almost as important as being skillfully fit to play the song. Guitarists spend hours, days or even weeks and months just to get the tone to their liking, because just a tiny bit of movement on the knobs on the guitar amps makes a big difference in tone. All the well known guitarists have their own distinctive tones. e.g) Eric Clapton for his Strat, Slash for his neck pickup Les Paul, Angus Young for his SG etc.
In this video there is so much distortion that it almost sounds like a fuzz pedal. It sounds very trebly as well. A simple cutback in distortion and treble would have made a huge difference.
Preference in tone is very subjective, and everyone has their own liking to it, but one common rule in terms of distortion is 'Less is better', because having too much distortion kills the characteristic of the natural sound of the particular guitar, and it also makes it difficult to distinguish the different notes. In short, it makes the sound very cloudy.
Jungha plays the song almost dead-on in this video (except for the few bending parts maybe), and he is no doubt technically competent for the song, but the tone really isn't suitable for the song.
It's the tone of a Les Paul, not a Strat played through a Marshall stack. If the intent of the cover is to sound exactly like Blackmore, then you're right, he failed. As an interpretation of the song, though, I think it's great. He put in a bunch of subtle riffs and he played Lord's organ solo too. If people want an exact copy of the original, they can just listen to the original.
chasethedragon I never said he should sound like Blackmore. Like I mentioned, everyone has their personal preference when it comes to tones. I, and many people are pointing about the distortion and eq settings, not what kind of guitar it is. I know the tonal difference between a LP and a Strat. If we were to compare this to dishes, this is not a matter of having different flavours, but rather the dish being overcooked and overseasoned.
He can't get Blackmore's tone at least because he plays a Les Paul, not a Strat.

There's a tons of free plugins to put a cabinet simulator in his guitar tone so there's no reason why his guitar tone suck, he also didn't use a mic for his guitar, he used an audio interface to capture the sound of his guitar and pedals that's why the sound is terrible, he need to put a cabinet simulator to make it cleaner and natural. This video is old now so I think he learned from his mistakes

Actually pedals aren't really that necessary if you have a decent amp. For example, Slash, his signature tone highly depends on nothing's more but his amps which are Marshall jcm800 or his own signature Marshall amps( again, these amps are based on jcm800).

If you have any idea how youtube works you would know that he would be making tons of money from ads. Add in his revenue from itunes sales which I am guessing are quite respectable due to his large fanbase(3 million subscribers and lots of free publicity from the news). Then there are revenues from doing shows, events and merchandise. Considering everything he probably makes over 6 figures a year through his playing.

He's playing pretty well actually! His forte really is fingerstyle but he has better form and finger technique than most electric guitarists. He's not as good as pros but you gotta take into account that he is dominantly a fingerstyle guitarist. The only thing that did throw me off was the guitar's tone. I guess that's partly why there are a lot of negative comments. But to say he didn't play the song well is just wrong. He's a great electric guitarist that just needs to make minor tone adjustments, that's all. :)
I tend to agree with a lot of the comments on here. You did an amazing job on this song, but the tone of the guitar just wasn't up to snuff. I don't think it was the guitar and I don't think it was the guitar player. There's a reason why if you watch a lot of professional musicians in the studio, they play through an amp and then mic what comes out. Keep playing and you will get the hang of getting the sound you want out of the electric guitar just as much as you have mastered the acoustic guitar as well as other acoustic stringed instruments.
