Kodocha fansubbers call it quits

  • Been watching a collection of Kodocha episodes that were fansubbed by a group of people in the late 90s. It's a show I've seen before, I like it a bunch, but I'm mostly watching these versions because they even included the original commercials from the timeframe, but also it's been a fascinating time capsule of fansubbing at the time.
During commercial breaks of various episodes they've used the commercials as a collection of translation notes and general housekeeping, but more hilariously they've also used some of the commercial breaks as a soundboard for how much they dislike the show as well as their general dislike for Sana's character. Some of the more hilarious notes include them completely misunderstanding a joke about German, as well as them trying to shut down weird rumors like how the voice of Sana was also in Evangelion. Just weird, pointless stuff in hindsight but really makes you feel like you're involved in a little community in a way.
You see the complaining, general confusion, and disappointment on the directon of the show happen more and more throughout the episodes, as well as constant problems with finding consistent translators, and then it's finally at the end of episode 16 where the fansubbers have reached their breaking point and finally decide to call it quits in a long soliloquy airing their grievances about the series once and for all while also telling you where you can go instead if you want to keep following the series from here. Overall, just fascinating stuff in my eyes.

Oh wow I remember this drama and the names. I fansubbed a lot of LUPIN III TV & Movies in the 90s.

HAHA Why were they so upset??? What arc really tipped them over the edge? Thanks for sharing, btw!
