CRUISE TIP #18, PEOPLE CAN HEAR YOU. So many people treat their cruise cabins like it's a single home. However the walls on cruise ship are super thin and the people next door can hear you quite clearly.
Agree!! Also, don’t put a crying baby on the balcony or talking loud or playing music on the balcony- I love to chill and read out there! I tell my husband to lower the tv at night, consider your neighbors!!
I always try to go to the bathroom as quietly as possible during the night, gently closing the door, making sure the loo seat does not bang, I'm as quiet as a church mouse until I press that button.......cluuuurrrrcchhhhhhrruuuuuppbop, and everyone with 50 yards is awake. You just can't win.😮
I'm on a cruise right now where little kids run up and down the hall yelling late at night. My mom finally went out there at 11 and told those kids to cut it out. Lasted maybe 5 minutes.
My mother is hearing aids and would take them out at night and not replace them until she left the cabin in the morning and shes a talker. I had to keep reminding her to lower her voice. I'm sure all our neighbours were well informed of her opinions on everything.
We were on Holland America & the casino was above our stateroom. The crew were cleaning & moving furniture at 2am - the next morning we complained & were moved to a different cabin. Lesson learned!
Actually on Cunard the walls seemed to be made of steel ! Never heard a sound both voyages! But Don I have to say that on Regal Princess - the walls are paper thin! I could hear an old man snoring right through the wall! And we have been on 30 some cruises and never heard that before!
They should start designating & separating the decks. Newlyweds, young singles, couples with kids and older people who want peace and quiet, with quietest deck being top deck 😂 Then you’ll be in good company!
Last year when I went on a Viking cruise with my dad, you could only turn up the TV to a certain volume. Like I think it went up to volume 30. All cruise lines should do this. The walls are thin. I could sometimes hear muffled talking and the shower going in the cabin next door to my dad’s and my cabin on this cruise. I don’t remember this happening when my family and I have been on 2 Disney cruises in the past.
I have been mostly lucky with my neighbors on NCL. Once had kids running up and down the hallway in the wee hours, but only one time and they weren't from next door. I will make sure to avoid rooms with connecting doors going forward, though, so thanks for the tip.
Just got a FOURTEEN day cruise- every day the cabin to the left of me violently vomited from 12pm-1:30pm. Every time I saw her out on the ship I couldn’t make eye contact. Fourteen days of listening to vomit during my shower time. Eventually started showering in the women’s locker room.
The sound of people enjoying themselves is far better than the sound of a couple arguing loud enough that you start to think about calling ship's security.
This was frustrating for me. I have a hearing disability and need the tv louder. My neighbors asked me to turn it down. I did of course. Sure I can wear my hearing aids while in bed. But it is so uncomfortable. I ended up choosing to just watch things on my phone which is close to me. It is what it is.
Sometimes people don't think when they are on vacation. What they do at home. May not be acceptable on a cruise. The room is not that big, turn the volume down and talk at a normal level. Respect those around you.
If you've had multiple people ask you multiple times to keep it down, perhaps it's time to get your hearing checked, and see if you need hearing aids. And if/when you get hearing aids, please just turn them up instead of your own voice or devices up. 🙃
lol I watch a half dozen cruise bloggers like yourself and more than one time. All of them have talked about their neighbor has been loud whether it was in the room or on the balcony. I guess since I only take Disney ships I’m luckier. Before I took Disney shift, I went to a lot of Facebook roll calls for previous ships as well as other forms and people complained about a few stuff on the balcony, but nothing to do with room loud due to neighbors. I definitely think this is American thing because there are times in the summer. We can’t even have our windows open because our neighbors are loud. Lolol keep up the amazing work.
I wouldn't be concerned about it. We rarely hear people next door coming through the walls. It's really the connecting doors that cause the problem & most staterooms don't have those. You often hear more coming from the hallways because those noises come through the door into your cabin.
@marianneward8980 , thank you! How kind of you to respond. I am worried about it but I will do my best to sleep on my stomache the whole cruise..try and spare everyone..thank you so much for your kindness 💗
Agree!! Also, don’t put a crying baby on the balcony or talking loud or playing music on the balcony- I love to chill and read out there! I tell my husband to lower the tv at night, consider your neighbors!!
Don’t slam your door late or early morning, nor scream in the halls; consider your surroundings!! Tx
Exactly the walls are not sound proof and you can hear everything, thanks Don.
Some folks are just oblivious to what's going on around them and don't consider anyone else.
Cabin doors slamming, loud music or high volume on tv's would prevent me from sleeping. I would be fine during the day but bedtime is different.
Absolutely keep the volume down, respect & kindness
Slamming doors drives me crazy! Why don't people hear that loud noise when they slam their own doors?! Everybody else can hear it.
I'm on a cruise right now where little kids run up and down the hall yelling late at night. My mom finally went out there at 11 and told those kids to cut it out. Lasted maybe 5 minutes.
They can hear. They just don't care...
One of my biggest complaints is people who let their doors slam
Yes, Don. I completely agree. I was on the Regal Princess in 2020, and I heard my neighbors “being affectionate” very loudly. It’s not cool.
Hi Don it is called respect.
My mother is hearing aids and would take them out at night and not replace them until she left the cabin in the morning and shes a talker. I had to keep reminding her to lower her voice. I'm sure all our neighbours were well informed of her opinions on everything.
Oh yes, you can hear it all. We always make sure to close the doors, slowly.
We were on Holland America & the casino was above our stateroom. The crew were cleaning & moving furniture at 2am - the next morning we complained & were moved to a different cabin. Lesson learned!
Funny Don. Guess I’m lucky. 17 cruises. The last 6 balconies and I have never heard loud talking or TV’s or anything else.
Thanks for the tip . . . I'll be sure to have a glass on hand to press up against the wall.
So true, thanks for sharing

It's amazing that people don't think about or don't care what close quarters they're in.
Holland America is fantastic. I've been a few times.
Great reminder for folks to be aware that they're not the only one on the ship.
They should start designating & separating the decks. Newlyweds, young singles, couples with kids and older people who want peace and quiet, with quietest deck being top deck 😂 Then you’ll be in good company!
I totally agree!

Loving the cruise tips.
We have had a connecting stateroom, and it was pretty noisy. There was a family next door with children.
Consideration is key. I’d like to think most people try to be respectful of others…but there is always at least one….
Keep up the good work!
good tip
Haha great topic
Great tip and reminder that other people can hear you.

I try to keep volume of the TV is not to loud. With tablets or phones people if they want it only a bit loud should use headphones or ear buds
Thank you, Don great tip, I have had people playing loud music late at night very disrespectful and ignorant.
Thank you for the tip
Penile tip?

💯💯
We had a connecting door. We couldn’t hear them except on the balcony sometimes. So wasn’t an issue🥰
I hope my husband and I didn't disturb anyone. We tried to be quiet!

Maybe they were getting it on and didn’t want you to hear.
Video stopped abruptly?
The slamming doors and walking to your room finding neighbors dirty plates practically in front of your door
Never get a connecting room! My neighbors were so loud. I’m sure my tv bothered them. Complaining would have made it worse.
Don, your video seemed to cut off mid sentence at the end. But I agree, please be mindful of those around you.
His neighbor cut his power for being too loud

I just crack my door open a little and yell.”STOP SLAMMING YOUR DOOR!!!!!”
or “SHUT UP!!!”
You got cut off, Don!
What happened?!
I had a fighting duo on one of my cruises. I got to wearing noice cancelling earplugs whenever I was in my room
Okay Barbara, thanks for letting me know.
You should have asked your private suite butler to tell them to turn it down!
I never get an connecting door. I don’t want to hear everything. The walls are thin enough as it is.
How come the video ended very abruptly?
I agree... We don't want to hear your numerous arguments. And we don't need to here your phone calls. Yeah, don't be that person.
Hi Don is it just me or did this clip end rather abruptly?
The walls are thin
Every word you say can be heard by the people next door so keep it down.
Why did the video end before you where done talking
His neighbor cut his power for being too loud

And boy have we heard a lot of stuff!😂

Well, you might roll your eyes -
but I also do not want to hear any kind of love noises or screaming
Just common decency to be aware of other people on the ship
I don't understand whyvpeople seem to think they need to be loud in order to be heard. Lower the voice level, jeesh.....
If it irritates you, then it will irritate others if you do it. So don't do it please.
I snore sometimed really loud 😮 im going on a 11 day cruise in sep,,,,uh oh what do i do? I dont want to ruin someone else's vacation...😢

Shh!!
Video truncated
His neighbor cut his power for being too loud
LoL 😀
That's really annoying...
I can't stand kids running in the hallways or people talking very loudly in the hallways too. Total disrespect for others!
Some people are just @$$holes, and they work on it.
Don't you mean anuses?
Ugh yes people are so damn obnoxious!
Demarkation a lot of oriole slam their doors! And in hotels , 5 am ,slam the doors! Crazy
