    It's like a monument to misery. All those prison cells where animals paced back and forth day after day, year after year.

  • @Hackneybird
    @Hackneybird Před 8 lety +14

    That was depressing . And who looks at those tiny bare cages and thinks to wish any creature back in them . Imagine the lonely hours animals spent in that crap hole , bored senseless. I love an abandoned place but this one just felt sad.

    Hate zoos because i feel sorry for all the caged animals,no more freedom..It's so sad and has never been a happy place for me to visit when i was younger. yep,save the animals but don't cage them for life..

    • @Chloe-qv2tc
      @Chloe-qv2tc Před 8 lety +1

      I know that people hate that they are caged and not free but if some were in the wild still they would most likely be hunted by poachers to extinction and if they were in a zoo and not caged they would attack and kill humans.

      +Joshua Jaajaa It's open to the public. It's part of Griffith Park open from dusk til 10PM. On the weekends lot of people hike all around there. I've done several ghost investigations there. It's considered one of the most haunted places in LA.

    The sizes of those cages are extremely inhumane. No animal should have to live like that. Very glad zoos have changed or are changing to accommodate to other living creatures that diserve to be tried like the living beings they are.

      @danajoyner9266 Před 8 lety +1

      Yes, I used to like the zoo near me because they "had room to run" but it's still a very unnatural habitat and they can't do the things that come natural to them. Usually they don't live nearly as long as they do in the wild. : (

    This place appears in a 1978 episode of the TV cop show "CHiPs," called "Supercycle." There's a whole sequence where Ponch ( Erik Estrada ) chases the episode's antagonist, "The Phantom"---a reckless and elusive Evel Knievel wannabe, whose dangerous stunts in traffic have caused the CHP a lot of headaches---right through there. In fact, there's a scene where the Phantom rides his stunt bike down those big concrete steps to get away.

    I much prefer the new format of zoos and (p)reserves . . . Where animals are given more room. And in some cases, allowed to roam free. Caging them seems so barbaric and inhumane. Great video. Thumbs up. Thanx. Peace et al.

    The first zoo, called the Griffith Park Zoo, opened in 1912 and was located about two miles (3.2 km) south of the current zoo site until it was closed in August, 1966. Remnants of the original zoo remain. The site of the current zoo was formerly the location of Rodger Young Village, which was itself built on the land which had been used for the Griffith Park Aerodrome.

    The old L.A. Zoo is considered one of the most haunted locations in all of Los Angeles. I always get three or four pages worth of EVPs when ever I investigate there. Adam on this particular day you seem to have a spirit following you around. He keeps asking "What happened?!" You can hear him at :40 seconds, then again at : 55 seconds and then again at 2:33 and at 3:16 and at 4:37 and at 7:55. Then at 3:37 it sounds like he is saying "It happened!" Someone is saying "Please, come here kid." at 1:09. A creepy girl is asking "Do you want to?" at 1:16. The cage on top of the rocky peek is to keep people from jumping off. At 2:08 I hear "Roger!" Someone is telling you "You can't go down there!" at 2:20. Then the same voice lets you know "I'm here!" at 2:23. It sounds like a kid. Do you hear "Don't hold them back." at 3:31? You say "This is the lion's hotel." and then I hear "Get out of here!" at 3:52. You say maybe they had Sea Otters and in reply I think I hear "Sea turtles" at 5:42. At 7:35-7:36 a child is telling you to "Back away!" It looks like you were walking up on her quickly, not give her her space. I hear "Hello,Goodbye!" at 7:49. And "Over raining" at 7:50. A booming,nasty voice shouts "Get out of here!" at 8:25-8:26. I hear a female say "Rebeca" at 9:30. Everywhere you go in Griffith Park you will bump into ghosts. Especially the main attractions there, like the Observatory and the Merry-go-round. Check out the picnic table if you dare. As always a great video. Thanx for exploring the old L.A. Woo, I mean Zoo.

    It is full of coyotes, woodpeckers, red tailed hawks, kestrels, quail, lizards, rattlesnakes, bob cats, mountain lion and many, many more species of rare wild life in the middle of a large urban environment. It is bordered on the north by Burbank, on the east by Glendale and on the south by Hollywood. It has over 4,000 acres, is the largest municipal park in the U.S. and was a ranch at one time. It was also the site of two internment camps during WW2 and was donated to the people of Los Angeles.

    You actually are only allowed to enter the zone if you have two or three different forms of radiation detection, a guide, and if you pass the checks. After you pass through, it's reasonably safe. Stay away from radiation and unstable buildings and you'll be fine. The biggest problem with going would be getting the money to go.

      I always read comments before posting my own to see if anyone says or asks the same thing, and the threes company question is exactly what I was aiming to ask. I think that intro was filmed in 1982 when Don Knotts came along to take the ropers place, so was the new zoo open that far back? I would of certainly believed it was this one being 30 plus years ago now.

    Go to a top of the trails, get as many pictures of the angles downward as possible, view the power old poles between trees, these reach above the trees by only inches in some areas, these could be 75 + years and trees have not been cut or trimmed in several dozen years.
    Look real close at the grounds, there are many pipes and sprinklers in the growth, the real copper brass heads exists which can be polished for photo effects.
    Many ole brass unions and water turn on and off valves are available to view and photograph.
    These old artifacts of the ole era are great for effects if looking for 50's era stuff in your photos.
    For lighting we have used reflective foil, it works well for us.
    We sprayed allot of water mist from ironing water misting bottles to get the rainbow effects in the air around the people were took pictures of students taking photo classes over the years.
    We shot many pictures off of bubbles, the reflections from the bubbles come out great for curved faces, color change and light is bent by the bubbles prism effects.

    I believe that is the correct time line for the zoos but I'm not 100% sure.

    I'd have the place full of turkeys, goose, ducks, quail, and chooks, with sheep roaming around if i had my way with the place. i can tell you from experience, its a real ass to have to pull out dilapidated fencing coz you often don't get it all out, and usually need to tow it out coz its all tangled in the grass and the sand has often blown over and buried bits of it. can't do it by hand, need a tractor.
