Plane:Boeing 767 Britania
Location: Las Palmas Gran Canaria
Leaving the sun behind...as we were seated on the right of the plane you can see views of Tenerife Teide Volcano in the distance!
Back when flying was a treated gift. Service was rich full of pride decency etc etc. Ode to the past great memories never forgotten
Flown to/from Gran Canaria many times. I’m also old enough to remember Britannia Airways. Good video quality considering how long ago it was filmed.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow I flew with Britannia all the time as a kid! Something that's stuck with me in my memory are the little drink stirrers that the plane provided that said "360" on the end, because I used to collect them whenever I went on holiday
Yea we too spent most holidays on these back in the day, same fond distant memories for my lad too :)
Great memories. Britannia flights. A really great airline in the day!!
Great plane. Flew back from Kos to Gatwick in 1987 on a Britannia 767, best flight ever, cruised at 41,000 feet too.
Brilliant! Miss Britannia Airways greatly.
I recently went on a Thomson 757 -200 (Nov 2016) and in the kitchen galley area, all the cooking equipment had Britannia Airways' written on it! just goes to show how old that jet was!
And now that Thomson is TUI, we STILL use that old Britannia equipment. It's built to last! I've been Britannia/Thomson/TUI Cabin Crew for 16 years :) still love seeing that old Britannia logo.
miss this airline! my first ever flight was with Britannia airways
As a kid on my first flight I flew to Tenerife on a Britannia Boeing 720 I think it was 1980 , Britannia was the greatest airline to me as a kid and so many great holidays started with Britannia :-)
excellent video, good shot of the volcano in Tenerife, remember climbing it in 1982
Great video !
Thanks!
very good camera for 2003
I flew this same plane type (767-200) and route as a kid when these were brand new in the early 1980’s. They had a digital Mach-meter at the front of the cabin (like Concorde). What you forgot to show in the video is how these bastards squeezed in an extra seat across: I.e. 2+4+2 seating instead of the 2+3+2 that every other 767 operator used....
Pack 'em in, sell 'em cheap. The story of the British package holiday charter airline from the 70's to the present day.
More seats - cheaper tickets.
Britannia/Thomson/TUI, Air2000/First Choice/TUI, Airtours/MyTravel, Caledonian/JMC/Thomas Cook, and many more, all had an extra seat per row than was standard for the particular aircraft type on widebodies.
People were free to pay more for scheduled airlines and their associated improvements, and I'm sure many did.
I was cabin crew for Britannia, and have stayed with the airline through the name changes to ThomsonFly, Thomson Airways, and now TUI Airways.
We only have two 767's left now, they're the -300, not the -200 seen in this video. The antique 757's, which left, and then came back to cover the MAX issues, are now being retired again.
And yes we do still use Britannia (and Air2000 and First Choice) galley and catering equipment. I love it. :)
I flew BOPK on this route operating the BY042A/B from Gatwick to LPA, but I do miss the 737-200s, loved watching the flaps & thrust reversers as a kid!!
Hi there... by the way you were sat on the left side of the plane...
Flew on britanna to ibiza from Luton hated Luton Airport and he climbed steep too I was only a kid at the time may 2003
