this bloody beast i renember when i was younger used to see theses things fly over burswood park in wa australia and to this day still see theses types of helicopters one of the best helicopters ever and the sound before takes of its good and also when it starts up the smoke lovely machine this is awesome vid

Entirely normal jet engine start for a helicopter.....it's just the smoke from the first bundle of £50 notes going through the system. Once it becomes self-sustaining, they burn faster and hotter so no smoke.

Fast approach and land for a Bell 206 Long Ranger. Usually they're not very fast.

Low and constant RPM with even the slightest surge / lag results in bumping of the over-run clutch. Torsion moments in the mast results in shaking due to torque reaction.

Still the prettiest helicopter in the sky to my eyes! I fell in love with Jet Rangers as a child. Was lucky enough to be given a free ride in one owned by the then Trent Helicopters, at the Surrey Show back in the seventies. I would cycle to Stoke Park and sit and watch for hours. Eventually, a nice man in an expensive blazer came over and said I could have a free ride as they had not filled the back seats for that trip. So, along with two other small lads who had been watching nearby, we went flying! Fantastic. Flew over my house and saw my parents and brother in the back garden. Many years later, I discovered that only a few weeks later, that aircraft had been lost in the Channel with all on board. RIP. I still love the look and sound of them. Thanks for this post.
