Did you see the reunion tour?
No because I wasn't really into the concert scene at that point in my life. Based on what I've read, glad I decided not to.
And I seem to recall you did a video on this like a year or two ago. I don't mind the remastered versions of old videos though.
Sidenote, I sorted your videos by number of views and .... I'm surprised that Poison's 1991 VMA performance ranks #1.

Please... Let these old guys retire.

No. Saw them '80 through '84 and stopped following them after that. I loved Sammy as a solo artist but not with Van Halen.
I saw Van Halen on the Diver Down, 1984 & 5150 tours in '82, '84 & '86, respectively. They were incredible. Eddie's solo left my jaw dropped each time I saw them. Then, I saw them in Atlanta on the 2004 tour. It was sad to see how the band was literally coming apart before my eyes. Eddie wasn't in good health that night and it showed. It was pretty obvious to someone like myself who saw them in their golden days. Eddie will always be my guitar hero, but the 2004 tour should have never happened. Just my opinion. Peace.
Seen them in 1986 Lakeland Fl
“Never meet your idols.”
@@midnightrunner684 sorry to hear you had to go to Lakeland.
I agree with you. I saw most of the tours you did, but put the credit card back when I got a glimpse of the 04 footage.
Saw the reunion tour here on Long Island. Was so excited to see them back together. I remember sitting up close to the stage with my wife and was shocked at the condition of Eddie. He looked horrible, was so out of tune, hitting wrong notes and staying away from Sammy and Michaels side of the stage. When time Hs solo, where he would eventually launch into eruption, he sat on the edge of the drum riser and was trying to play, but it was horrible. However some in the crowd were screaming and cheering. He stopped playing, and I remember it like it was yesterday said, “what the fuck are you cheering for, it’s only noise!”. Then you started hearing some other guitar playing and out from the back came Wolfe playing guitar. You could tell he was nervous and a beginner and Eddie started crying and introduced him.
It was both nice and sad at the same time to see him as drunk as he was and a shell of his former self. Glad to see he got himself together and became sober before his untimely passing. R.I.P. EVH!
he was a horrible douchebag to the end...oh, see it wasn't the fact he had a cig in his mouth 24/7 that gave him cancer. That would be HIS fault--it was those metal picks he kept in his mouth. Funny--when I saw him in 80 and 81 he used plastic pics...I have a broken one with the VH and his name on it. I could do a biography on Eddie--Ive know him since the early 70s. Complete a-hole. Very charming like Alex--but a drunken fool and petty AF
My best friend and I discovered the original VH album in 8th grade. It literally changed our lives and made our friendship stronger. This tour was our freshman year of high school. We saw them at Mohegan Sun. It was amazing. We were too young to know about the drama offstage and notice any issues onstage. It was just a dream come true for 2 teenage Van Halen fans in 2004. Long story short...the tour was worth it for the fans. Still have my "Van Halen Kicks Ass" shirt.
should have seen them in 80 and 81 when every solo from Eddie wasn't the exact same
"The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long..." This line from Bladerunner popped into my mind, it's the original Van Halen (with Diamond Dave} that thrust them into the strat·osphere (no pun intended) and the singular, brilliant and unpredictable legacy that will forever shine.
RIP Eddie
They would have become big without Dave due to Eddie's incredible artistry.
@@johnrwalker53 Tell that to Jeff Beck .
@@fritterfoof5146 Huh?
@@johnrwalker53 What a moronic thing to say. That band was great because of the four amazing members. Eddie was the genius...but Eddie with Dave was an unbeatable ticket. With Dave, they actually had unique and inventive lyrics. It was a new sound. Once he left, it eventually became diminishing returns. Funny that you say something so stupid...but once Sam left again and Eddie cleaned himself up, the band then had multiple sold-out reunion tours with Dave and the crowds came back. They literally were playing to tons of empty seats (even selling $10 ticket blocks on the day of the show). That didn't happen in 2007-2008, 2012-2013 or 2015. And A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH was their best album since 1984. But I understand that someone likes you thinks lyrics like WHEN IT'S LOVE, LOVE WALKS IN and CAN'T STOP LOVIN' YOU are the kind of lyrics that match Ed's genius. Pity the rest of the world doesn't agree with you.
@@johnrwalker53 Open ur eyes my friend...u do realize Dlr named vh and ran that band...evh and avh were all about the music, so dlr had to do the rest ! Not to mention his looks and showmanship that captivated audiences. Credit where it's do !
The strange twist for me when Dave left was his Eat em and smile album was the kind of ass kicking I was expecting from Sammy and VH...boy was I trippin and that album was SICK!
I loved Sammy prior to vh but, couldn't get on board with Van Hagar
Bro, you missed out on some phenomenal music! For me and millions of fans, what Eddie and Sammy wrote together was pure magic (and I am a VH fan no matter who's singing.)
I agree with you. But they did fill the need of the average consumer back in the mid to late-80's. I could also say the same about DLR's final album 1984 was bubblegum rock and I hated when EVH passed away and all the radio experts played "Jump" claiming it to be Eddie's best song. WTF??
Really? You hated Top of the World,Dreams,Right Now,Can't stop Loving You,Why can't this be Love,Love walks In,Cabo Wabo?I never cared for Poundcake.
I forgot Mine All Mine-Great song.
Then you don't love scat singing!
Im a huge VH fan and really liked the solo Dave stuff with Steve Vai as well , I saw Sammy in concert shortly after the 1st VH split he seamed a lil emotional as he told VH stories before playing some VH songs , the show was so amazing that if you closed your eyes you would have swore you were at a Van hagar concert ! props to Sammy who's a kicked ass fronting montrose as well ...
After seeing them a few times and a huge fan since they won they really did Michael Anthony dirty... Dude was rock solid and added those tremendous high harmony vocals which were to me, a trademark of Van Halen
I NEVER understand the hate towards Michael Anthony. According to Noel Monk's book the VH brothers and Roth put a contract in from of Anthony that basically made him a hired gun. You COULD put other people on bass but it was never Van Halen without him, cannot replace him imo.
Michaels Anthony's harmonies are what make Van Halen choruses huge. Gave that sing alot aspect. Catchy but still heavy
Man, I'm glad EVH cleaned up at the end. We all got one final, amazing burst of the Mighty Van Halen.
In 2004 I passed on the Hagar Van Halen reunion tour. Instead, I went to see Roth and his rock band at the time doing classic Van Halen tunes and some of Roth's solo hits. He sang great and his band was top notch. I was hearing how bad the actual Van Halen was doing and I was quite happy that I skipped it.
I saw them at American Airlines Center in Dallas in September 2004 (still have the T-shirt I bought there). The performance went gangbusters, and the tour was NOT a disaster.
I concur, I saw them in Oklahoma City. According to Sammy, that was their worst show of the tour. Even with Eddie drunk and playing sloppy, it was still one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. Hardly a disaster. Well, I’m sure it was a disaster for the band and their entourage, but not for the fans.
Was a disaster for Hagar b/c he was miserable
I was there. I agree. The show was great!
I saw them on this tour also, at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Michigan, and have to say I don't recall it being a disaster either. Maybe there are some critics out there looking for issues with the show because it makes for clickbait
I was at their first show of the '04 reunion and it was fantastic!
I saw Van Halen in 1979 at The London Gardens in London Ontario Canada. They were amazing !!! Still one of the best concerts that I've ever seen.
Eddie Van Halen is a legendary guitar player obviously but it is telling to me that he was not easy to get on with after a while being in a band with him. It's one thing not being able to get along with David Lee Roth but then he wasn't able to get along with Sammy Hagar either or Michael Anthony towards the end. 3/4 of the band were his own family members during the last couple incarnations of the band.
He seemed pretty critical of everyone and wanted things his own way all of the time and everyone seems to fall out of favor with him at some point down the road. He always seemed sky high on new members at first but then he ultimately tires of them.
in an old interview, eddie even commented on how he had "zero social skills"- like that was the price of him being so totally committed to his music. so unfortunate. to my ear, he's musically in a class by himself- not because of tapping, speed, or anything you can define in words. i just love his style, and how he can play lead / rhythm, in several octaves, all at the same time, so effortlessly. the live cut of "judgement day", just for ONE example- holy crap! that's my man!
Should've got Valerie to sing for a complete VH band.
@@daBEAGLE1017 I wanna hear Ed and Al tear through the "One Day at a Time" theme song now, ha ha.
@@reprintranch Valerie was smokin on that show.
I'd imagine the whole bunch is fairly difficult. Michael Anthony maybe the least, but who knows?
I saw them in 2004 in Vancouver when I was in grade 10. Basically my first ever big rock concert with my 3 best buddies so naturally I remember it very positively. Having said that, we were all pretty decent musicians even by that age and I don't remember us thinking they played badly at all, and I knew most of their songs pretty well. I do remember something feeling a bit off just with Eddie looking and acting a bit strange. He was ripped that tour but he had his hair up in that weird pony tail on the top of his head. I kind of just chalked it up to him having had cancer and gone through a lot of shit. Of course I remember he smoked constantly the entire show. Overall we didn't suspect anything weird and thought it was a good performance.
We know Wolfie can handle the guitar end of a VH Tribute, too. I can see that happening someday. Dave, Sammy, Alex and Michael Anthony And Wolfie handling guitar.. Got a glimpse from the Taylor Hawkins Tribute. He has that spark to sound good playing Eddie's parts.
Wolf is quite impressive, he has to be. Look who his dad is, it's inevitable.
@@Scottocaster6668 I assumed he would be good, but hitting those licks like his dad is damn impressive, Indeed!
@@yourdrummer2034 Exactly, it's in the blood. Imagine some of the licks Wolf has heard throughout the years from dad?
@@Scottocaster6668 agreed
I don't see it happening with Hagar . Because his book RED was a POS. He used it as a smear campaign against the Halen Bros and everyone believes Hagar's LIES . And I've pointed them out and Hagar's fans are as stupid as Trump's . I've proven Hagar's LIES and they ignore it
Poor Eddie had some real demons. Noel Monk's autobiography from the time he managed them during the DLR years is pretty illuminating; Eddie was just a quiet, shy kid who enjoyed getting lost in his guitar, and had a hard time adjusting to the rock star lifestyle. The booze and coke were coping tools, and all that stuff just got harder to deal with over time. I think Valerie got it right when she said that Wolfgang was the only reason they eventually managed an album and three tours with DLR; he helped Eddie get back on his feet in a lot of ways.
I always wondered how Eddie would've fared had he not married that enabler?
@@wjatube so it's her fault that he was an alcoholic/addict.
Got it.
@@time4807 No shit, and I always give props to Valerie not taking Eddie to the fucking cleaners when they divorced. If I recall things correctly, they both parted with their own net worth. Eddie's net worth was 4 to 5 times her's, not to mention he was still at the height of his career. She just had a few million and was lucky to get a Lifetime TV movie every few years. All she took besides what was her's to begin with was their home (not to disrupt Wolfie's life) and had Eddie pay half of Wolfie's private schooling. No child support, no alimony. I was blessed to still retire at 55 years old with just shy of eight figures I accumulated with a Fortune 50 Company. (Most of that came from very generous stock options, my 401K, and a generous pension.) That being said, my ex who was also making well into 6 figures took me to the fucking cleaners at 36 years old. She easily got more than half. Kind of ironic that all our marital strife came from her need to spend money like a drunken sailor and I still had my ass handed to me! The good news is, she is now 60 years old, still making absurd money and pretty much living paycheck to paycheck. Ha, what I would have given to have had Eddie's sweet deal of a divorce!
I agree with Sammy, if ya got Wolf to play Eddie's guitar parts and did a reunion like that, that is in good taste. But anyone else on guitar and it shouldnt be called Van Halen at all. Just my 2 cents, take it for what its worth.
If wolf was in for a tribute than I’d be interested in tickets for it! EVH R.I.P.
Not talked about often but Eddie was using meth in 2004. The guy really was going down. I've never heard what made him turn it around but it's great that he did.
It was obvious it was more than drinking, meth had to play a part. I saw the Houston show and it was so awful I felt cringe like, Ed’s solo was brutally bad.
I saw that tour. My buddy didn't even want to go. I wish I hadn't, except that it was an experience to see how sorry it was. They had a curtain covering half the seats so Eddy didn't see how empty the place was.
I saw them this tour. To their credit, still rocked out.
Ed died in 2020, not 2021
I picked up on that immediately. How could that kind of mistake be made?
@@DCB728 This is why you always take CZcams videos like this with a big grain of salt. Most of their creators aren't terribly bright or terribly diligent in their work.
Thanks for the info! Made me not watch a single second of this video. If they get that wrong, nothing they say I’m going to trust.
The brothers VH were very talented but hard to get along with.
There way or the hiway
Real big oops. That's like saying Hagar did the vocals on the Von Halen album 5050 😂
Eddie and Sammy never made amends. One twitter message back to Sammy was from Eddie's wife.
Saw this tour in Ft Wayne,IN. A friend of mine worked lighting at the show. Eddie drank an entire bottle of Jack in the limo ride from the airport to the Coliseum. You could tell he was trashed but I thought the concert still kicked butt. I wish I would have seen VH back in the 80's when I was younger but oh well.
I pretty much stopped paying attention to VH for a long time, and it's sad to hear about Eddie Van Halen's condition in the 2000's. I didn't realize he was so messed up. He'll always be in the top 5 guitarists of all time for me.
Yeah, I pretty much did the same as you. I was a huge fan from the DLR days all the way through with Sammy. After they broke up, I lost interest in all of it and didn't realize what a mess Eddie had become. Never bought Van Halen III, or anything after that.
I don't think I ever saw EVH without a cig. that's what killed him more than anything else.
@@mikeblaz Not only the cigs, but he was a heavy coke user and an alcoholic. It's amazing he made it to his mid 60's.
@@mikeblaz Come on, it wasn't copper guitar picks? Hate making fun of him, but seriously, own your reckless lifestyle. Ha, always had a cigarette in his mouth, cocaine, and alcohol. Yep, it was those evil guitar picks that got him!
Manager Ray Danniels destroyed the Sammy Hagar lineup of Van Halen all in the name of making a quick buck off a greatest hits album.
For those of you that think Sammy brought down the band, I sure don't get your reasoning, but imagine this. Eddie actually traveled to and met with Patty Smyth to replace DLR. Talk about a disastrous decision! Thank God she was busy getting knocked up. There would have likely been one album, one tour and we would have never heard from Van Halen again. Maybe Eddie would have indeed been picked up by Kiss after a "VanSmyth" disaster tour if you can believe Gene Simmons that Eddie wanted to play with them.
4:40 - Ed didn't die in 2021. He died in 2020.
I saw Van Halen for the first time in Saskatoon during this tour. It was a pretty good show.
I saw this tour, I remember it being pretty good, but I was also pretty drunk haha
I saw EVH right after Hagar's story of him looking homeless. I t was at Home Depot in Pasadena. EVH was sloppy drunk and trying out power tools. Dude bought about $10,000 of floor tiles.
I saw them at the United Center in Chicago. The acoustics of the venue felt off, but VH seemed to do a fair job. I was actually excited to hear Hagar sing the Roth songs.
Saw the tour w Cherone in Atlantic City ( Rock the Dock) and it was a really decent show…..but as long as I saw Eddie play, didn’t care who sang the lyrics😂 But Dave will always be goat
You forgot Sammy being the Goat too.
I saw them in 04. Sammy was late for sound check. Apparently, he got wasted in St. Louis the night before according to Anthony. Eddie sounded good to me, he spent a lot of time hassling the crew about his guitar sound, and kept stomping on the jack during sound check.
Anthony was the only person in the band that would talk to anyone lol. Eddie did sign some stuff though during a few solos.
I thought Eddie died in 2020, not 2021
it was 2020, looked it up b/c it seemed longer than 2021 that he's been gone.
Yep October 6, 2020
He did (2020) article is incorrect.
Sammy is right, Wolfie should be his own man but doing a tribute is a whole different thing.
I have seen a few videos of him playing old VH songs and he sounds virtually identical to his dad. Not surprising I guess when you consider how much time he had growing up with him as a teacher.
IMO Wolfgang/Michael/Alex as the band and Dave doing Dave songs and Sammy going Sammy songs would be a huge tour.
Wha! I got to see a date on this tour
I did catch a show on this tour in San Jose, CA. One of the worst live performances by this band, or any band, I have ever seen/heard. Eddie was (always will be) a musical hero of mine, and it was absolutely heartbreaking to see him like that. It put me off ever seeing him live again. I kind of regret missing the final tours, but from everything I've see and heard from those shows don't hold up to VH pre-1999. Plus, no Mikey. He was a huge part of what I enjoyed about their live shows.
I saw them many times in their prime, and I'm so happy for that.
BTW, the audio for that San Jose show is on YT somewhere. If you want to be depressed, go have a listen.
Sammy is such a cool laid-back dude. Imagine what Eddie must've subjected him to in order to make him almost come to blows. RIP Eddie - you were a guitar God but you lacked humanity and decency and your legacy suffered for it.
Wow, Ah no it didn’t? Eddie is king & Sammy is an insecure rocker, he knew what he was getting into with the brothers VH! Sammy could’ve turned down the gig? He came along in a bad addiction time of Eddie’s life, not Edwards best moments. But to write a book & piss on Superman’s cape? Bad taste at best. Sammy was removed from another band before VH, MONTROSE!! Ronnie had enough of his shit too. Maybe If Sammy had stage 3 cancer of the mouth, maybe he weirds out about it too? The nerve of this guy?
Agrees
Sammy not great either . Been trolling Dave and van Halen for years always something bad to say also nasty things he should have kept to himself he put it in the book. Alex has not forgotten or forgiven him.
EVH had his demons with booze and drugs that had taken over during this time. He’s neither a devil nor a saint - just a guy who could play the hell of out of a guitar.
How about the time Ed called Pat Smear that little Mexican in a room full of people ?
Sammy's final comment there made me tear up. I do hope that happens for the fans
I had a great time at Cabo Wabo, Sammy’s bar in Cabo San Lucas.
I agree that it was a disaster for the band, but the fans all had a good time. Although a sober, Eddie would’ve played better it was still one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
I saw this tour in Omaha and I never realized things were this fucked up. But, they sounded fucking great, especially Sammy.
Whatever problems they had, they weren't showing them onstage. Put on a great show, I'm glad I went... 💯
Saw them in PHX in 2004. It was a great show and Shinedown opened for him. Eddie even spoke for a bit during the show. I didnt see them this last tour because after seeing Dave during the sammy and Dave tour I said screw that.
Correction! They did cancel two dates. One in Columbia, SC and one in Greenville, SC. I had tickets to go with my dad to the Columbia show. He still has them up on his refrigerator as he never got the chance to see Van Halen. No reason was ever given as to why these shows were cancelled and no replacement shows ever took place.
Having said that, I did go to the first show of the tour in Greensboro, NC before the tour went off the rails. The show was fantastic and there was a lot of love in the audience and on stage between Eddie and Sam.
It's a shame they didn't get back together in 96 Dave still had his voice that would have been great would have got some couple more Great Van Halen albums me wise magic and can't get this stuff no more or great
Thank the Rock Gods Dave came back.
I saw VH in 2014 and Eddie was great, Dave was Horrible trying to hit the high notes
a van halen reunion with mike on bass and wolfgang on guitar would be crazy
Balance tour, '95. Eddie had that guitar tuned so high that I swear to this day it's given me slight hearing loss haha...
It's sad how bad Eddie and Alex treated Mike. The guy is a world class nice guy and loyal friend. To diminish what Mike brought to the band was a low blow by Eddie. I love Eddie, but he could be douche when he wanted.
I remember this tour.. the first show I saw was in Buffalo ny. Eddie sounded terrible he was like beyond hammered he would play a different solo for some of the songs more like improvising. Then a few months later I saw them in Worcester mass. Great show Eddie was amazing and so was the rest of the band. My thought was wow why the sudden change. The 2 songs later Wolfgang is on stage to play a couple instrumentals with Eddie. I don’t think he was drinking in front of the kid.
I saw them on this tour. The only thing I thought was bad was shinedown.
Michael Anthony the classiest one of the bunch.
Everytime I watch any of your videos..the volume is very low. Even if I put my volume on the highest level, I still have a hard time hearing. I love watching your uploads so please raise the volume...perhaps a drop.
It wasn't disastrous..I saw them in Biloxi while a Hurricane was brewing in the Gulf. Awesome show.
My buddy worked the FWA gig got a drunk/bloody nose'd hug from Ed while being escorted by his entourage from the stage, before the crew could get on stage. At that moment, it was funny and kind of a "dumb boomer" kinda laugh we had. Then, later it hit home that was an awkward sad thing and now it's lore.
2004 and better parts of 2005 (in addition) was a horrible year for the touring industry world-wide, most disturbing was the sudden drop in ticket sales and overall show attendance (hurting venues and vendors). Lalapolza tour was cancelled; KISS Rock The Nation arena-ampatheatre tour played some dates with hardly 50% attendance. This also play a negative role in this tour as well.
Rock In Peace EVH ❤️🤘
So sorry Sammy that one of the most iconic rock bands of all time wanted you to cover David Lee in his absence. It must of been pure hell for preforming in front of all those people when you were use to only a fraction of that at your concerts. Well keep going to your therapist Sammy, you’ll be all right one of these days.
They had more success with Sammy than they ever had with DLR. If not for Eddie bringing DLR back he would still be broke and working as a paramedic. He did nothing but lose all his money when he left the band.
I caught this tour in Spokane, WA in 2004. It was terrible. Eddie was clearly not in a good state of mind. It was so loud you couldn’t decipher what song they were playing most of the time. Eddie’s solo spot was not good. He literally laid on the stage and just let his guitar feed back for most of it.
No concerts cancelled? I'm pretty sure some did.
Edward Van Halen died in 2020 October 6, 2020. Not 2021.
Saw this tour in Cleveland. I had floor seats I thought it was a great show.
Seems like Eddie and Alex sucked at band management. Say what you will but Roth was leading in his day and Hagar was leading in his time there.
I saw this tour for $21 in the lawn of Indianapolis. Bought my ticket from Karma records in Anderson, went with my highschool sweetheart. One of the guys with us got arrested in the parking lot for underage drinking, but we slammed that concert as hard as a 19 year old kid could.
Eddie and Alex are some strange dudes. Roth is flat out out of his freaking mind, putting it mildly. It seems like Sammy and Mike were the only two who had their acts together. There shouldn't be any tribute concert or fair well because it isn't deserved.
Saw VH with Dave once and Sammy twice. Kind of funny, at the first show I was in between a steady piece of ass so I asked out the hottest platinum blonde rocker chick that was on my radar at the time. The show was sold out and I managed to milk one piece of ass out of her before the show, and another after the show since we had to get a hotel room that night to avoid a two hour drunken and high road trip home. (Best $40 I ever spent on two tickets in my life at that time.) Anyway, all rocker chicks loved Roth in those days. He was the biggest goof ball ever at that concert. We all know he couldn't sing worth a fuck even in his youth. It was really bad live and in person. Then, he wouldn't STFU in between songs. Just rambled on and on. No one loves hearing Dave speak endlessly more than Dave himself. You could literally see the look of embarrassment on Eddie and Michael's face. After the show my date couldn't even shut up for the rest of that date about what an absolute goofball he was. Both the Sammy shows were 100% better!
What was the original feud with Hager about?
If I remember correctly, VH had just finished the Balance tour. Sam was home in Mexico with his wife who was about to give birth. Ed wanted him to come to the studio to work on the greatest hits record. Sam thought a geatest hits record was a bad idea and didn't want to do it, he also didn't want to leave his wife. Finally he caved and said he would be there after the birth of his child.which apparently wasn't good enoughj for Ed.
@@johnkramer7161 Yikes, thanks
@@samanthab1923 You're welcome.
Sad that people with so much talent have to throw it all away for booze and drugs. The managers and record companies should watch over these artists just like an employer in a normal company.
If the guys did do a Vegas VH reunion with Wolf on guitar they could call themselves Van Halen WVH.
Sounds better than that awful more recent live version of jump with eddies untuned guitar
Ok we all know by now what a disaster the reunion tour was by now because Sammy Hagar has made that known numerous times, but can people stop now trying to tarnish the memory of probably the the influential guitar player of our time no one knows what he may have been going through at that time we need to treasure the great music he left behind for us god bless you Eddie thanks for the memory’s!!!!
VH was a tragedy of a band. They were great despite themselves.
I seen this tour. Despite all the term oil off stage they still put on a great show. Eddie was obviously a mess. He was crying at one point during the show but Eddie’s playing still sounded good to me.
Still enjoyed plenty of success? You mean enjoyed way more.
Yes. Eddie was a message and messed up a lot of songs. Sammy did a great job
Saw them on this tour and it was a huge let down. At one point Eddie stopped moving while playing and I literally thought he died.
Rip Eddie
Fuck every music executive who saw what was happening and let it continue. We could have lost Eddie back then any day and they were more concerned over losing money than hitting the brakes.
I saw the show in Fort Wayne on November 11, 2004. The sound mix was horrible. What the video said about Eddie having the guitar screaming was no joke. For the 2007 - 2008 tour, I saw them in Indianapolis on October 14, 2007. The sound mix was better for that show, but still not great. Sad that I will never get the chance to see them perform live again. RIP Eddie.
5150 ...2021...
It will happen.
Most complicated.
just go watch the live videos, I went to a concert it was bad, every song sounded like poundcake from Eddies guitar, if Sammy stopped singing you wouldn't know what song it was
The tour was sold out...they just didn't get along.
I saw three shows on this tour and all three were excellent. Not sure why some call it a disaster.
'Cause some shows apparently were. There is a video of the Vegas show at that time. I've only watched it once because it hurt to watch and hear Eddie literally sound like he didn't know how to play, it's that bad. He was really jacked up that night. Or as Sammy said in his book, he knew it would be a fucked up night if Eddie came out in his Samurai hair do (Eddie's hair tied up in a bun.) That night, Eddie had Samurai hair.
Because there’s loads of videos showing Eddie stumbling around and laying on the stage and not knowing what he’s doing while Alex ignores it and Sammy & Michael both look pissed.

I like the DLR albums more, but he can’t sing nearly as well as Sammy. Saw VH with Dave in ‘08 and he was so bad.
Dave by a mile. But he's insufferable, I wouldn't want to sit by him at a bar
dave was a great front man, good with lyrics that fit their sound / image- but sammy? who the hell can sing like him? what a rock and roll voice- SO glad that they joined forces for as long as they did. a GREAT fit, imo! btw- i saw sammy live, in '73, opening for santana, and i couldn't believe what i saw and heard back THEN! and on guitar, he always seemed to hit the right notes for my ears!
Both were great in VH
I saw VH in Las Vegas in 2004. It was the worst show of that tour. Eddie was in bad shape and not playing well. My sister in law complained so bad that we got a refund on our tickets.
Sammy is just so great. Such a nice and sincere man, who's also fun and extremely talented.
His ability to be ageless is second to none.
Exelent tour👏👏👏
Saw the band in '84 and Eddie was drunk as a skunk. That combines with Dave's constant rambling made for a cringe worthy experience. Saw them in '88 and I guess he was sober that night because the band sounded great and the show was awesome. Substance abuse is no joke and can infest anyone. That society seems to turn a blind eye to it is indeed sad.
I paid $100 to see this show. Nosebleeds. I didn't give a shit. I had to see Sammy VH.
I didn't know what shape Eddie was in at the time.
My only complaint is that they could have gone deeper into the Hagar catalog. I didn't want to see Sammy sing Unchained and Mike sing Somebody Get Me a Doctor. They did the hits, which is to be expected, but 5150 or Love Walks In or Mine All Mine would have been a nice touch.
Eddie and Alex were both serious top notch players musicians.they had skills and a vision what they wanted to do.a front man for them was a nesecary nusiance.especially David Lee they were annoying carnival barkers.the vanhalen boys we're for real.the others weren't even in the same ball park..
Sammy is a top notch musician too.
Michael should've told them he wasn't interested.
00:46 …”Sunday morning 9:00 am”, I think I’ve heard that before from Sammy??? Hmmmm
They couldn't get out of their own way. Sad.
Dave, Sammy, Alex, Michael and Wolfie, that would be VHIV, the last tour. I´d sell my house in order to go to that gig
I wouldn't go to a tribute tour for free if DLR is part of it. Swear to God I wouldn't. I saw VH with DLR once before he left the band and with Sammy twice. I wouldn't pay a dime to see DLR if he was only half the show along with Sammy.
Not cool what they did to Mikey.
