    My father in law, Lt. Col. Charles Shallenberger was a P-38 pilot in the pacific for the Vampire squadron. He was the best man I'll ever know. Sitting around the camp fire with him was better than anything on the history channel. You had to pull the stories out of him because he was very humble, but once he started you would be guaranteed an unforgettable evening. His brother in law as a P-52 mustang pilot and when the started sharing together I would get chills listening. He loaned me his flight log to read back in the 1980s. I couldn't put it down. He would absolutely love this. R.I.P. Chuck. You're missed.

    Since my first day showing up at our field (with my Apprentice 15s, SAFE locked and loaded) this has been and will forever be my most favorite plane to watch fly. That 1st day it was a 14 year old flying and shredding everyone else flying. I remember thinking, “I’ll never fly like this kid, but God, please let me get good enough to fly a P-38!” Well Saturday I assembled my Flightline P-38 after 4 years of trying to get good enough to fly it. It’s built, strut upgrades in, wired up, and no plans whatsoever to fly it anytime soon. I think I going to just look at it... in one piece...

    Jeeez...the detail on these Styrofoam planes has really come a long way in the last few years! That is a gorgeous looking P 38 and to be able to just fly a model that not only looks that good but performs like that right out of the box, is just fantastic. Keep up the good work!

    Now this is what a P-38 should look like. I cannot wait for mine to come. The build looks fairly easy.

    That is a beautiful bird, and well mannered for it's size. She has a lot of power, and I can imagine with the motor upgrade for her, she will be really fast, and powerful.

    I to have been flying Motion RC planes and have had only one servo related incident. I yanked and banked at full throttle with thrust vectoring nozzles installed on my F-22 and one servo failed holding one stabilator straight up causing loss of control. No other problems so far.

  • @Crimsonedge1
    @Crimsonedge1 Před 8 lety +1

    I can't help but feel the landing gear should extend and retract forwards instead of backwards. At least that way, if they don't lock into place for any reason, the forward motion of taxiing and landing won't cause them to be pushed back in dropping the plane on it's undercarriage. I imagine gravel rash will be pretty bad with the undercarriage on a foam aircraft landing at speed. That aside, beautiful model. :)

    I have the silver with up grade struts. Flies just like video. However at full flap landing nose pitches up 15 or so degrees, and I recommend a down elevator program with flaps.

    How long does the wing paint hold up after a couple of landings when there is no suspension? My 64mm A10 has paint cracks from a couple of really good landings on a paved road with the same style landing gear.

  • @squire330

    Are landing gear struts plastic? if so, bad news for hard landings and good luck on finding just the struts - probably have to buy the whole gear assembly.

      @MotionRC  Před 8 lety +1

      Check out the parts listing at MotionRC.com you'll see that the thick gauge wire strut is clad in plastic and that the strut is sold either separately or with the retract. Best foam P38 out there!

    I wish someone would paint one like my great grandfather flew in green with baby blue nose cones and a 31 in white/black bas relief on the front. I looks EXACTLY like the restored "P-38 White 33" only with a 31 on the front (instead of 33), as they came from exact same squadron at 14 mile /Schwimmer Aerdrome and flew together. Info on Pilot: blue2.air-war.org
    Pilot interview on CZcams: czcams.com/video/MwViS4SfQSg/video.html&feature=emb_logo
    Hew flew 170+ missions mostly escorting bombers, bailed out of a marginal sketchy P-39 once while on an unauthorized joy ride, to parachute out, and had a P-47 explode on take off when wheel blew on Marsden matting and belly drop tank scraped against steel matting and exploded in fireball and blew him clear of it all. His favorite was the P-38 - two engines to get you home, it was a cadillac (his words!).

    Remember, 31 on the front, *not* 33! :-)

    If you did, I'd give whatever pics you sent lots of promotion on the net. I probably would send you one of my customized flags to hang in your man cave, though I'd have to find a new source to make them, my supplier in China for custom flags has crapped out probably due to the pandemic :-/
    Lew was a super smart guy, super generous, never pretentious or ever putting on airs, and made the best spagetti sauce. His trick was to blend up all the green peppers and onions so the kids didn't know it. After the war he got a job at Mead making that ruled paper you used in school and never talked about WW2. I didn't even know he was a fighter pilot until his wife died and he had nothing more to do and I showed him the internet and he found one of his flight buddies when he went to go see Glacier Girl. He passed away in 2017 and was one of the damn near last living fighter pilots from WW2.... outlived just about all of them.

I received a damaged airplane, contacted motion rc immediately, sent product back, packaged exactly as I got it, as per motion rc instructions. Payed $179.00 got $159.00 in credit. I ordered $159.00 in products, haven't ordered anything else. Why contact support now? motion rc going to change their minds now that I've complained on U Tube where lots of people can see it. To late to help me now, should have been fair with me to begin with.

    I bought a GWS p38 I could have simply thrown my money down the bowl and flushed it away it was a totally useless piece of crap. This one looks like it is of good quality . The moral of the story is as long as your going through the motions do it right even if it's more money because you get what you pay for.
