    Here is an updated video, using LESS silicone grease at 5:20 on the o-ring. czcams.com/video/mq0A9m1ky-s/video.html
    I've personally never seen problems as shown in this video but others are saying it could lead to problems, and I am taking that advice.

      @@androopr yep I changed mine last night. Was surprised at how tight it was to push the backing plate and o ring back in place, but I suppose that's what makes it good for 100m depth!

      Precisely why ! Little room for airspaces that would compress 😁🤙

    Hello, Could you say which is the right thickness of the correct battery? I've seen some with 5 mm but I don't know if that is too fat or too thin.
    Thanks.

    Thanks so much for the video. My dive logs in the Memory: History setting stopped working after I switched out the battery. Have you heard of this happening after battery replacement?

      Are you using the D4 or the D4i?
      I get my logs on the dive computer reset every time I change the battery (once every 2 years or so)

    What size is your screw driver?

    • @androopr
      @androopr  Před 4 lety

      This D4 I used a Mastercraft #0 Philips head screw driver... #00 could also do the job but it's slightly undersized so higher risk of stripping.
      The flat head screw driver is a 2mm size
      It is possible that Suunto used a different size for different batches so just make sure that it fits snugly and keep lots of downpressure before turning the screwdriver.
      Hope it works for you!

      Not sure if you can see the link I just posted, you can find it on eBay. Type in "Battery Kit for Suunto D4/D4i" and it should pop up for about $5-$10 USD. Select one with goof reviews and that comes with an o-ring!

    • @androopr
      @androopr  Před 10 měsíci

      It is always on. The only way to turn it off is to remove the battery. The battery is hardly used for regular use though, I only need to change it once every couple years with very frequent freediving. Scuba mode I found eats the battery quickly though

    Where do you buy the o rings?

  • @arturoborski5909

    Another update for you... Do not handle the battery with your fingers. Make sure it has no sweat, or oils from your skin, on the battery surface. slip into place with a dry cloth after wiping down... I hope that make sense to you... :)

  • @sinetwo
    @sinetwo Před 3 lety +3

    Great video, but I'd recommend A LOT less grease. Probably less than a rice grain, and to use your fingers (clean ofc). You risk damaging your shiny new o ring with a tool, and it may introduce pores/cracks that attract debris or water.
    To remove the o ring, use a guitar pick or credit card.
    To clean the o ring groove, use a miniature makeup brush. Again using a flat head here can introduce scratches, which in turn may wear on the o ring.

    • @androopr
      @androopr  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks sinetwo - I've pinned another person's comment mentioning the same thing regarding grease so people can see.
      I've personally never had issues like this on a few battery changes and regular dives below 60m/200ft but I realize it could cause a problem. My D4i battery has just died so I plan to re-film with less silicone grease :)

      I just came back from a trip where it was changed and pressure tested at an official suunto service station, but very cheap.
      I'll be doing it myself next time definitely! And I'll be using a zoop as a backup computer...

    Sorry to tell you, you missed a few things. Way too much silicon grease, no pressure test to ensure not flooding and yes there is a way to use both types of batteries. The way you installed the O-Ring it could be twisted and leak under pressure. The way you did it everybody do it but you are taking a risk of flooding it. Before installing the back plate ensure that the 3 spring connectors match. I am not here to criticize you, just making sure people watching this know that there are some other steps. I've seen batteries getting flooded because it was done this way.

  • @andygray
    @andygray Před 4 lety +1

    Way too much silicon grease on that O-ring. When you replace the O-ring the amount of grease on the O-ring should just make it shiny there should not be globs of visible grease on the ring. Just run your clean fingers around it and massage it into the ring.
