The endangered California condor returned to soar the skies over the state's far northern coast redwood forests on Tuesday for the first time in more than a century.
As a young man playing golf at Torrey Pines in 1975 I was so lucky to see 5 Condors soaring along the upper edge of Blacks Beach which has some very high cliffs. There were two large and three smaller most likely a family and I remember having not seen any one of them flap a wing but effortlessly glide along the upper edge of the massive precipice edging the Pacific Ocean. I was in total awe watching hugh prehistoric looking figures floating by me. For them to make a comeback would be glorious to say the least.
They have been raising Condors in Ojai California since the 1980s.
