- Another year has gone by and we've had a bunch of new decks as well as some previous contenders from last year make a huge impact on the game in 2023. Today we'll be going over the 10 best decks of the year based on how well they did in major events, focusing on big tournaments like the Yugioh Championship Series, or YCS for short, as well as the National and Continental World Championship Qualifiers, WCQ for shor. And even the first World Championship we've had since 2019.

11:43 "this is a FIRE-based archetype" something we'll be hearing a lot in next year's video...
This idea was one of your best vids last year. Hopefully we also get the top 10 weird tech options of 2023 as well. Quality work either way
I got back into Yu-Gi-Oh during Kashtira's reign of terror, and it was just as warm as you could think of for a welcome back. Because of this, I have a personal grudge against Kashitra, and it's the reason why I refuse to run Unicorn in Speedroids.
I have a similar grudge against Floowandereeze. I built a damn good Blackwing deck in Master Duel, then got obliterated every time I faced Floo. Yeah, totally fair to allow your opponent to take their turn on my turn, thanks Konami
@@crashlight54i feel like the deck is in the unfortunate spot of being the first deck since psyframes to play on opponents turn and wouldve gotten less hate if tearalaments came first.
Now we have fireking, snakeeyes, tear still, vanquish souls and likely a few other I'm forgetting that do the same thing. I think without barrier statue floo is actually really neat as a deck, its just an expected way to further push the power level of the game in an ever increasingly powerful format
@@SC_Blast
Dragonmaids did the "make your plays on the opponent's turn" thing so much more fairly. You can't go into your boss monsters, but you can get some good pieces on the board, do a little searching, that kind of stuff. What those decks do is inherently busted since Tear and Floo can do everything they could do on their own turn but attack
@@crashlight54 yeah i agree with that that it was huge power creep, but they've both kinda settled to being manageable to deal with meta decks now. I think floo kinda goes into that "annoying to fight" category like in the same way people look at me when I play VS against them
Nah, join the Kashtira Speedroid hybrid users 😈
How fitting that the red visas starfrost who in lore kidnapped and absorbed the blue visas starfrost thanks to multiple card arts depicting those scenarios happening also beat the deck irl.
Kashtira has no chance against full power tear
@@AymenBh-vm7jji mean it does if it goes first
I never really thought about Dlink as being a theseus's ship but it does completely make sense.
The deck "feel" never fully changed with the rokkets for synchros and link climbing, but all the dragons around them changed, with the ED we got des pater very recently that is just an amazing custom card for Dlink and also the bystials as an alternative (or addition) for the baby dragons.
That was a fantastic video. I would love to see something like this for the past years since the beginning of Yu-Gi-Oh competitive scene.
Rikka winning so much last year was wild... its widely considered just shy enough of being good but the few people that manage to Pilot it just smashed Tier 1 Decks left and right.
Tearlaments sticking around even after some brutal Banlist hits says alot about how ridicilous that set of Cards is. Especially in the OCG where it got hit even harder then in the TCG for a long time.
I think part of Tear’s power also lies in the creativity of the player base. Tear players are cope and will do just about anything to make the deck work. In the OCG, I’ve seen the stupidest deck lists ever, with seemingly contradictory combinations, and yet, they just say “sure, let’s try it”. One list I remember seeing was like Tear, Punk, Brave, Zombie, Horus, Snake Eye, Grass, Thunder Dragon.
I would like to suggest a list idea: Top Ten Engine Cards.
What I mean by "engine" is a single card that not only makes the deck work, but turns it into an efficient machine and makes it run at full speed. I would say as an example Gateway of the Six is an engine, because that single card makes the Legendary Six Samurai archetype go from zero to sixty in an instant. I think it would be interesting to see what you consider to be the all-time best engine cards in the game.
Apologies if you've done this idea already.
Prank kids meow meow mu
Purrely was super fun to play, before the ban list hit when Delicious was at three copies it rivalled Kashtira
Man, I liked Purrely even when it first got first nerf in MD banlist. But they literally nerfed it even more in MD to it's TCG and OCG counterpart.
Totally deserve it, Noir is an cancer as Ultimateness with Eva being legal
It was due to purrely being much more effective in MD. They can ram Maxx C and still end with unbeatable tower as well as having 2 ways to otk your opponent, this is discounting the fact that they can use ghostrick engine to easily setup UDF.
MD purrely was too much
And over in Duel Links, the top Decks were Odd-Eyes, Orcust, Tenyi, Lunalight, Black Luster Soldier, and Yubel.
Yubel? Is it the same old deck with nephtys?
@@blood_raven254no it’s with neos instead, they made an op skill that’s allows yubel’s upgrades, neos kluger and as a result neos wiseman to be easily summoned
Everything with a broken skill 🤣
Currently we also have tachyon which is tier 0 as well
@@lamarpray5324 Yea, but that wasn't in 2023. :P
Ah yes, 2023. The year of 'Is Visas Starfrost lore done yet'
Top 10 funny effects or rulings in duels
Magical Dimension (tribute a monster with a spellcaster on your field, then you can pop an opponent's monster).
This effect *does not target* even though you actively choose what monster to pop.
Send to GY vs Pendulum monster on the field.
1. Cant be used to pay cost like Droplet or Chimeratech Summon.
2. Can be affected by effects that send to GY, but usually do not apply the rest. For example: send it to GY, then/and if you do, ... The effect after then/if you do would not apply.
I suggest making a video on cards that have avoided the banlist even though they're an inherent menace to several metas
Thank you for the video and information
you know kashtira and tearlaments will be in the top 2 when you see yugioh channels cover them more than the other 8 mentioned decks/archtypes combined
No branded or Labrynth is kinda surprising.
Kashtira is such a busted archtype.
Nasty banish effects, very splashable in other decks and they play like a meta deck with a lot of special summoning while being anti-meta (no need for GY and locking it away with Arise). They can go up against any deck in history because of this ability
Do you even read the video description? This is based on YCS result in 2023, and how many event that Labyrinth and Branded won? YGO player can't read like usual
@@Test-mq8ih
I didn't say he was wrong. I just said it was surprising to me. Yugioh players really can't read.
I don't follow tournaments' results, I just assumed they performed better.
Branded seemed rogue even tho it got some regional tops with the Chimera version.
Labyrinth had tops but too small that it required a good pilot. Closest it got was 3rd place in YCS Bologna by Dinh Kha Bui I believe.
I dunno if there was a video like this already made but it would be interesting to see the worst "poster children" in Yugioh history (cards that were presented on boxes, structure decks etc. but outshined by some other card or even being bad despite the exposure).
Because of Duel Links, I fell in love with Aroma and SuperHeavy Samurai’s. I’m just waiting for the other to get buffed so that I can use them at full power, like how I can use SuperHeavy Samurai’s at full power in Master Duel. (I’m currently trying to generate some Ultra Rares so I can start playing the deck)
I'd love to see the weird tech choices of the year so we get Click and Echo mentioned.
Considering purrely is an archetype of cats, I think it's supposed to be pronounced pur-rely as in purring, the things cats do.
THANK YOU! I do not for the life of me understand how anyone could read it pure-ly
Same here. Awhile back, Paul from Team APS was pronouncing it properly, and people got mad at him for not saying pure-ly. @laxduck
@@laxduck well that is how it's pronounced on the original japanese card

Ideas for new archetypes or expansions of existing archetypes:
⚪️Animal HERO (A series of animal themed HERO monsters that are typed after the animals they play off of, like Beast, Beast-Warrior, Winged Beast, Fish, Etc… like an “Animal HERO Ratman” for example).
⚪️Sidekick HERO (Level 1 Tuner HERO monsters that are paired with a Senior HERO monster. They’d play off of each other, and have a Synchro monster for each paring that can be summoned from the main and sidekick HERO’s (Like a “Sidekick HERO Bath Boy” for “Elemental HERO Bubbleman”, and their synchro counterpart would be “HERO Duo Bubblebath”)
⚪️”Cyberse” versions of existing “Cyber” monsters (like a “Cyberse Dragon” or “Cyberse Harpie Lady”
⚪️Amazon versions of famous Waifu cards (“Amazoness Harpie Lady”, “Amazoness Dark Magician Girl” etc…)
⚪️Inversion (where you take cards from the past and make “Inverted” retrains of them that reverse their established qualities and effects, like a “Relinquished Inversion” Union monster that attaches itself to other monsters, and confers its classical absorption effect to said equipped monster).
⚪️FIRE/WATER and EARTH/WIND equivalents of “Light and Darkness Dragon”.
⚪️ *_UNBOUND!_* (Non-Pendulum boss monsters with a Pendulum Style second effect box, that are meant to be stronger versions of exiting Boss monsters, by dividing up the original card’s effects between the top and bottom boxes, and then improving them thanks to all the extra space (Take Obelisk… The top box would have the “Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set). This card's Normal Summon cannot be negated. When Normal Summoned, cards and effects cannot be activated. Neither player can target this card with card effects. Once per turn, during the End Phase, if this card was Special Summoned: Send it to the GY.” part, while the bottom would have the “You can Tribute 2 monsters; destroy all monsters your opponent controls. This card cannot declare an attack the turn this effect is activated.” bit, and both would be modified to make an “Obelisk” retrain that’s as powerful in the game as it was in the show.)
So many sick ideas you should be the one making videos!
the idea of more hero support makes me cum
Great video as always! Id pronounce them Pearly, like the word Purr, cuz theyre cats!
I’d go for Purrrr-ly
7:50 i have to say if you get to resolve the combo, drnm and droplet are the only cards that gives you the chance to even play the game cuz by having unexpected dai and any other plant you can end on cactus and naturia whiplash bangalancer regulus and teardrop so u can't sp summon and you can only activate 1 spell or trap which will get negated by regulus and u still have konkon and princess in grave for backup
Spright got gutted so hard on MD last year.
I miss it so much. 😭
Can we get a top ten engines video? Bystials is number one rn but past and lesser used engines would be cool. That's if the video concept works
Dragon link is really the zombie deck that ever dies and actually just continuously grows with the power creep.
Happy to see floo in the top 10 for 2023!! I love that it keeps resurfacing every few formats! Floo being able to check the "best deck" in the meta, being (in my opinion) the best shifter deck. Checking Tear, Unchained, and now Fire King just being a few. Love my birds!!
Floo is cringe
@@69Bloodstreaks People act like any good deck doesn't combo off on the opponent's turn. Especially with Fire King rn with the power level as it is, having like 6 points of interaction during the opponent's turn. I love FK too, but it seems like people hate decks just becasue its "the thing to do". Barrier statue was a real problem and its gone. It reminds me of when (and no hate I think he's awesome) everyone hated Runick becasue it was the thing to do, but now Josh did amazingly with it and now its super popular. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions obviously, but I just think its funny.
@@BeardedSnowlYGO I like playing control decks, idc if a deck can combo off or not. I don't hate floo or Runick cuz "it's the thing to do". I hate those decks because the a genuinely cringe decks with stupid cards.
@@69Bloodstreaks I'm just making an observation from most of the people that just comment "deck is cringe", and that's it. I'm not sure what anyone is expecting. But sure if that's how you feel then it is what it is. People hate certian decks when they do essentially the same thing as most others, but people like to bandwagon. I can't prove, or am I nessesaritly saying you are, but that's the part I guess I have a problem with (bandwagoning). But again you're entitled to your own opinion. And I'm not trying to hate, just making an observation of the community as a whole based on the types of comments and interactions I see on YT, Twitter, Twitch chat, etc.
Though that type of response kind of proves my point. "Deck is cringe" and "cards are stupid" being your reasoning can be said with any "meta" or anti "meta" deck nowadays. Most decks are annoying lol. Yu-Gi-Oh can be annoying, but we're all are still here lol.
I'm just happy using my Pendulum Magician deck. It can summon lots of boss monsters like Barrone and Apollousa.
I want to know the top ten decks that would be the strongest if there was NO banlist on the main archetype monsters and all generic banned cards were limited at 1.
They run no banlist tourneys in japan! Tear is typically the best deck
Could you make a top 10 cards that revived an archetype ?
Got this one in the backlog already, so keep your eyes peeled!
Finally the unchained get some Logs Love!

I wish there was more videos focusing on OG cards, for us who dont know or care for modern ygo
You should do a top 10 decks at full power, bandlist aside. Like if zodiac still had broadbull, or pepe still had plushfire etc.
still get clapped by tear
I really wish they would release the rest of the unchained cards in master duel
Pretty surprised Labrynth wasn't mentioned considering how much people complain about it.
It's extreme bias to combo decks.
I love floodgate city decks
Lab is getting carried by cracked normal traps being free. The engine itself is fine. In fact lab didn't win much event compared to other meta threats
Lab isn't winning event that much compared to deck mentioned in this top 10 video lol, what are you smoking
@@soukenmarufwt5224got any recommendations for floodgate decks? I've never built one before but watching my friends face after I played vanitys ruler was priceless so I'd like to see what a real deck around cards like it can do
It never performed that well, it was just over hated because people hate Floodgate decks.
Surprised, Lab didn’t make the list 😮
Because it never manage to win a lot of event
Good work 🎉 im hoping to see more custom cards videos
Would it be appropriate to say that Dragon Link reminds me of Dragon Rulers considering how powerful they both were when they first came out? Until either they got power crept or half the archetype got banned?
Can you do a vid about the synchron archetype
Hungry burger should have been number 1 😢
Pose the question then, are there any older monsters you feel would do pretty well if they got an archetype, or simply would prefer to see get the same kind of love as the likes of Dark Magician? I've always liked the notion that Wingweaver, strongest normal fairy-type, could make for an interesting central piece of an archetype.
Can we get a maha vailo archetype? There is a bigger version as a level 8 but that's it and equip decks are still a rare breed
Do a top 10 Yusei list
(Sorry if you've head this suggestion before) Seriously want to see a list of mistyped Yugioh monsters. Like monsters that feel like they should be a different type andor attribute than what they actually are (But making sure to disqualify monsters with a specific type or attribute in their name. Because that seems a bit to obvious) For example. Exodia Necross. It looks like an undead version of Exodia the Forbidden One. Has 0 Defense like certain Zombie versions of existing monsters. But it's a Spellcaster just like normal Exodia. Why.
Dude it's purr. purr-uh-lee. Like purring what the cat does, and purty, the way a southerner says "pretty." But with an l.
You're talking about a guy that couldn't even pronunce Ojama Trio correctly.
Duel Logs legit can not pronounce to save his skin
Maybe you can do a top 10 failed decks.
Strangely, whether it was in live tournaments, Master Duel, or whatever, I have never once lost to Purrley despite encountering them a lot throughout 2023. It was the same with Dragonmaid, somehow I've just never lost to them.
Though against Tear, Kash, Spright, etc, I hardly ever eked a win out. I never got very far when I was against those.
That's interesting.
Maybe you play a lot of Kaijus? I remember thinking how easy of a matchup Marincess was when playing blind going 2nd Gren Maju in MD, but that was because I could just kaiju Aqua Argonaut
Ngl I somewhat liked Floowandereeze. The artwork of each of the cards and the theming is just kinda amazing.
Surprised the snake eyes archetype wasn't on the list, but the deck is essentially the same since they both include the poplar/diabellestar engine.
Just came out too late in the year. Barring some banlist shenanigans it's definitely gonna make it in 2024. Diabellstar is represented in Rescue-Ace here, but the Snake Eyes aspect of it really needed Poplar, which was a 2024 release, to really come together.
Did Epurrely really do well enough for top 10 or is this just one of his favorites?
Can't say I've liked the design of some archetypes recently such as Runik. The fact that master duel had a meta relevant Runick build for a bit that had a deck out win condition was silly. Spright wasn't to my taste either.
Go check Singapore national duelist cup, 8 runick stun in the top 16, it's not just md, it's ocg counterpart also play the same strat.

I'm kinda new to this community so i have 3 questions.
What is the ocg and the tcg?
Is that actually how you pronounce "purrely"?
What are Floodgates?
Ocg : Asia format, tend to be more oppressive than western format.
Tcg : western countries, deck tend to be weaker than their ocg counterpart because the ban, but more often than not resulting a tier 0 format because they are playing cards that designed over ocg format.
Honorable mention to Melodious, Volcanics, and Ice Barriers, who have received three of the biggest power boosts in the franchise's history and can be a real threat against meta decks now.

29:38 But isn't that rather due to Konami waiting longer to hit Kashtira than they did with IshTear which had to be restricted to end a Tier 0 format?
Kashtira was format-warping, too, but not as overwhelming as IshTear.
It seems clear that the most impactful deck over the course of a year isn't necessarily the strongest one of that year.
Top 10 card with hard/soft opt
Kashtira would be fun and fair if the main mosters banish effects can only activate in battle phase
It still wouldn’t be fun because of the way it rips cards from your extra deck.
@@Endershock1678 Trashtira and TearLAMEnt are evidence that these cards are not playtested.
@@shis1988 I like Tears though. It had a high skill ceiling, a wide range of builds, lots of unique tech options, and promoted some of the most clever deckbuilding I've ever seen. Sure, it was overpowered beyond belief, but the fact that tears got gutted in TCG and OCG and people still try to make it work with some of the stupidest deck lists I've ever seen shows it was at least fun.

26:12 You mean as number 1 or in Like top 16?
Is Purrely pronounced like that? I always thought it'd be "Purr"-ly.
You know, like after the sound cat makes? Someone please clarify for me 😅
A shame Fire King's massive comeback wasnt enough to make it to the list.
Can’t wait for the Unchained Yubel combo to be on top
after the snake eye engine gets hits(most likely) yubel combo definitely going to shoot up their new fusion “phantom of yubel” is not once per turn
No mention of Swordsoul or Branded/Despia?
Swordsoul fell off a bit and has become the poster child for a tier 2 deck. Good, but maybe a bit too fair. Branded struggled to keep up with full power Tear and Kash. Funnily enough, it feels like they've had less overall tops since introducing the puppet lock.
Interestingly, Branded is shaping up to be a contender in 2024 with all of the other hits. It's arguably the best non-fire deck in the game right now.
Isn't it meant to be purr-ly, like the noise cat makes?
"But in Duel Links..."
Glad the eevees left the meta of MD

Top 10 archetypes that received a glowup from support
Mathmech. Went from near useless OTK deck that sometimes saw use in Cyberse Piles to a decent Link deck just from a single card, a single card that can easily lead to an OTK.
The kitty cats purrly's :3
Drinking game: take a shot every time he says purrely 😂
Sooo... Wheres branded?
Bystial directly synergised with it, and ive seen a lot more people using it than dragon link, rescue ace or unchained.
yeah but it never won a major tournament ppl just play it in ladder
Branded didn't do anything in tcg tournaments this year. It was nowhere near as represented as Rescue Ace and Unchained, despite both of those decks only having their full support later in the year. Dragon Link is only on the list for the World Championship win, but even then it at least had a 3v3 YCS win representation, which is more than Branded did even in just the TCG. Branded didn't even have that.
It's not even an honorable mention, that'd go to Exosister (won a YCS, but low number of tops), SHS (most powerful deck not on the list that forced a super fast banning), or Labrynth (no major wins, but a good number of tops). Branded isn't a bad deck, but it didn't perform enough to even be in the conversation for even the #10 spot.
I dont understand why Kashtira bannish Opponent cards face down and ban their Zone as well
Like the effect that can bannish card is not strong enough so they prevent it from being countered
so which deck will win between full powered tearlaments and full powered kashtira?
Whichever goes first
Or depend if Kash player have shifter in hand or not lol@@Hempujonsito
Anyone tried playing that earthbound immortal or weird blackwing in floo?
Honestly I hate the "banish parts of your opponent's deck" as a concept since banish recursion is so rare and you often need to lose card advantage for it. I'd rather that most of these cards just banish for something like.... 6 turns (3 of your and 3 of your opponent's unless some pyro clock shenanigans). I feel they'd be more "fair" in a casual setting if the option of turtling and getting those resources back existed. Of course in tournaments, something went wrong if you gutted your opponent's combo extenders and didn't win in 2 turns anyways.
No mention of Super Heavy Sam’s?
It was full power for like two weeks before TCG banned the link-1 so it's unplayable there
If it didn't eat an immediate ban upon the release of the new support it would've definitely eaten into Kashtira's dominance and maybe would've made it. But banning scarecrow crippled the deck too much so it didn't have much success. It's definitely the most powerful deck not on this list, cuz it did force a ban out of Konami, but that ban was just too early in its lifespan.
kashtira makes tearlaments look fair
I went against purelely or whatever and i beat them with cydra + chaos angel
