I've always loved the SABC opening theme, ever since I started listening for it as a youngster on the shortwave service of Radio RSA.

The first 40 seconds of this clip were the same music as was used in the opening of all the international services of Radio RSA.
Hello sir, I know that. I was wondering if you could direct me to a website with those sorts of clips. I've been interested in South African (pre 1994) music for a while but there are very few clips.
If you google "radio interval signals", there are a few sites on-line that provide these for radio stations worldwide, both past and present. (including Radio RSA)
Wasn't able to find them, but I am very grateful for this clip. The opening signal is my alarm to get up in the morning.

They used this extended fanfare to a really magnificent anthem on the broadcasts on shortwave from.Radio RSA. Theres nothing left of them now and South Africa has suffered drought and infrastructural collapse. The government is unbelievably inefficient and corrupted bringing misery to black and white. No money for radio and they sing the anthem half heartedly along with words from movements of long ago. Does God bless South Africa in such words?

The beginnign reminds me, what reason ever, of the Royal Anthem of the Commonwealth and the National Anthem of the United Kingdom (You know the versionb which was played on the royal weddinf this year)!!!!

This one from they used in the late 70's (and I assume from day one in 1976) was the one with just the old flag of South Africa with the lyrics of the anthem scrolling up. Malema wants Die Stem to be removed. Yet, a country that had a much worse system then Apartheid, Germany, has kept the same anthem, only cutting of the first two couplets, keeping the same names and capitals. So the EFF wanting to remove all Afrikaans from South Africa is just discrimination. Pretoria was founded as Pretoria, named after Pretorius. It never had been Tshwane. Its really a suprise to me that the Afrikaners didnt show their balls yet but keep on hoping for a real democracy rather then this reverse apartheid.
