      I hate this machine and the company sucks!! So I bought a Beeville because I saw rave reviews, and I already bought a Jura and a DeLonghi, and both machines we crap and I returned them after the first week because they did not pull good shots and we temperamental. I don't have time for that in the morning. I need a reliable machine that pulls the perfect shot the first time. The first Breville out of the box did not even work, something was wrong and the pump was dead. Called the company and spent two weeks waiting on the replacement. Got the second machine and it arrived wet, which was odd. Then went to use it and it smelled like burning electrical, so I finally returned it. The Breville is garbage but what will shock you is I bought a Ultima Cosa, Presto Bollente from Walmart on a hunch after examining it. It is less than half the price of the Breville. It is flat out the best machine, and it blew me away. I have only had it a week. Set the grind at 5 and it pulls the perfect shots every time. it heats up quick, it grinds perfectly every time, perfect steam and frothing. Serious so glad I decided to try it. You will not be disappointed, especially at half the price.

    Two little points that might be useful to your viewers: the bottomless Portafilter is quite messy to use, since the coffee tends to sputter and splash on its way out. And the cool side arm lever requires some dismantling of your machine to fit - it's not a straight swap.

    I'm a barista by trade and at work I use nearly all of these accessories, barring the single dose hopper and swear by them for quality and consistency. Though taking into account most people buying a medium priced espresso machine, chances are most people wouldn't want to spend $300+ AUD on accessories.
    With that in mind, I would comfortably say that the precision basket and WDT tool are top priority for those not wanting to spend a fortune and still retain quality.
    The other tools aren't necessary, but could make your life easier if you had them. I wouldn't say 'must haves'.

    Very interesting video and I couldn’t agree more about putting the dosing cup first. I bought one and it really helped a lot, from being able to grind directly into the cup with no mess and then being able to get the ground coffee into the portafilter. I give the portafilter & dosing cup a good shake, and most times, my coffee is very level and then easy to tamp. My pucks never seem to get stuck in the portafilter. I’ve been using it for over a month now and highly recommend getting one. Great video! Thanks.

  • @ozicryptoG
    @ozicryptoG Před 2 lety +4

    I regularly use a bottomless portafilter, filler ring and tamping puck. I also, when calibrating use a Cafe scale that does weight and time.
    Because I have a Barista Pro I do use the built in which, once coupled with the scale and some trial and error re different roasts etc is a breeze once dialed in.
    Wonderful little unit that just goes and goes and goes. Sure I could have spent more and even less on other brands and been quite happy, or happier lol but it's a wonderful unit and for regular coffee wannabe aficionado plebs like me (haha) it's great and I do recommend it.
    Those other things are nice. Expensive. (About 200 when said and done) but worth it. Especially the lovely polished hardwood bottomless portafilter ... who doesn't love watching their extraction? Mesmerising:-)

  • @Berean490

    Great video. I was completely unaware of the bean bellow. My two cents: I tried the dosing cup but actually prefer a funnel over the portafilter so as to collect the ground beans without a mess. All the transitions are easier. I don't have to weigh and weigh again (in case not enough went in) in the dosing cup only to transfer back to the portafilter, then distribute using the distribute end of the Crema dual end tool (distribution on one end, tamp on the other). Plus I use the WDT right inside the portafilter (again, with the funnel still on it). To each their own though. Great video!

    • @deepside7
      @deepside7 Před 2 lety +1

      Dosing funnel allows you to really give the grinds a good shake when put in against the portafilter (ie. hold them together and shake) - I haven't needed WDT since I started doing this.

    Two other items that have greatly helped my consistency and cleanup; an IMS Shower Screen for my Breville Barista Pro (Part BV 200IM) and a Coffee Portafilter filter Screen (53.5mm) . The shower screen helps with better water flow while the portafilter not only helps with evening out the water flow but also keeping the puck off the screen. My espresso tastes better and there is way less cleanup. Also the pucks come out solid.

    Would have to disagree on one point. While it may not be a ‘must have’ , I would not agree that the replacement lever for the steam knob is ‘100% about the appearance and fun factor’.
    The stock steam knob can be awkward to turn especially if your hands are damp or even, like me....... left-handed (and you all thought we were mythical creatures like Unicorns).
    I tend to hold the milk jug in my right hand and operate the steam knob with my left, so I am reaching over the top of the machine to operate the steam.
    I will definitely look at getting one of these steam levers as a replacement.

    Question, I just got my Breville Barista pro after watching your video and when making an expresso I notice when I remove the portafilter there is still water that is not pushed through. It basically looks muddy as if there is not enough pressure for the water or to much water is being pushed. Shouldn't it be more dry? Since it is right out of the box, do I need to make any type of adjustments?

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  Před 11 měsíci

      Just means your dosing slightly too low for the basket. Empty space above the puck allows water to collect. Nothing wrong with it, as long as your shot tastes good, don’t worry :)

    They are so nice especially the one from crema that, for me it's a stand alone reason to get the barista pro. But they are so expensive that it makes the budget machine pretty pricey. I started looking into the Cafelat Robot for that reason. You don't need anything really. The only upgrade necessary is the self leveling tamper and that's it. No need for additional baskets, portafilters, levelers, dosing funnels etc. But more importantly, the ability to pressure profile is the key for me. With the build in grinder I've seen too many videos of naked extraction and they all channel. I think the Robot and the Comandante are the best budget combo. What do you think?

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  Před 2 lety +1

      Going with a Commandante and Cafelat is a VERY different approach than a semi-automatic machine. Hand grinding for espresso is not an easy task! Haha
      HOWEVER, it is definitely tough to beat from a bang for your buck standpoint, if you're purely considering for espresso. Personally, for daily use I don't think that any lever machine can beat the Flair 58. Not having to worry about pre-heating, having a completely normal workflow / cleanup is an absolute game changer. I used mine for over a month straight despite having a stable of full-sized espresso machines sitting around. Video to come!

      As far as hand grinding for espresso. Currently I'm on a super budget option. I use a Hario slim. Believe me the Comandante in comparison will feel like my teeth when eating Pringles. 😂

      Hi Raymond, I'm not exactly sure what problem you are describing. Are you saying that your shots are running more slowly with the single dose hopper?
      The hopper will have no impact on grind quality, grind size, or dialing in. If your shot is running too slowly, you should be looking to adjust your grind size or dose

    Forgive my ignorance brand new. I do
    Not quite grasp why you would want to eliminate clumps and then seemingly press all of it into one uniform clump which does not seem like it would be impacted by having clumps to start with?

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  Před 2 lety

      Clumps to start with = uneven distribution and possible air pockets once tamped. Just because something looks "tamped" doesn't mean there aren't areas of higher or lower densities. This unevenness is a recipe for channeling and uneven flow

    I think my comment gets deleted because I post a link. But without shilling for anything I have to say that a dosing funnel works much better than a dosing cup! I got a great one off amazon and you can lock it into place on the portafilter and still use the automatic grinder with no issue. Zero mess, easy to use and you can wdt straight afterwards as well. A strong recommendation from me!

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  Před 2 lety +2

      Dosing funnels also have their place! But personally I like that a dosing cup can also be used to fluff up the grinds, has a nice tab to start the grinder, and this one also has a sort of non-stick finish which is awesome

    • @FunnyMuslim
      @FunnyMuslim Před 2 lety +1

      @@LifestyleLab_ the one I use has a tab so you can use it to start the grind as well, it's minimal and machined well. In terms of fluffing up grinds that's what the homemade wdt tool is for and having a dosing funnel means I don't have to worry about making a mess
