  • REMEMBER, I do these with no intent to be an Oscar Candidate! I film with my smart phone that I discovered will take videos after my Flip Camera broke. If you want better filming, send a film crew--
    OK Rant DONE--- This Cadillac was a "rescue" - No Way I could let it go the way of 22" wheels and a set of 24" speakers in the trunk. But it kind of got tucked away behind my 41 and 49 Cadillacs until a couple weeks ago when I had a group of car club members come up, so I did some car cleaning and remembered this one was back there under cover in the dark . Best thing to do was to let it go while I had it out. So it now heads back to Chicago-- Land of RUST DEMONS.. HOPE it survives a long time back there. It has had a very good life out here where we just dont have the problems with rust. Enjoy!

    LOL, I thought I was the only one who believed in keeping survivors bone-stock! Thank you for saving it! These are quickly becoming even more beloved classics.

    Brought back Memories of my 1973 Fleetwood Brougham Same Color but with a cream vinyl top. I was 17 years old in 1978 when I required my Florida Caddy from my dads uncle who brought it back to mass in the spring of 1978 to his summer home. I have yet to see another car with as much leather as that ‘73 Fleetwood. Was in perfect condition. Thank you for the memory.

      I have the same story as you. In 1978 when I turned 16 I got my grandfather's 73 Caddy to drive. Loved that car. Drove it until I was in a head on crash in 1982 and the car was totaled. Thank goodness I was that rare teenager that wore both the lap and shoulder belts. That shoulder belt was a pain at times but in the end was well worth the aggravation. Probably saved my life.

    Thank you for showing this 1973 Sedan dé Ville. It is a great car. I love the fact that is has a 40/60 front seat and not a bench seat.
    I drove over 60K miles in my 1973 Coupe dé Ville here in DK from 1986 - 1995 and enjoyed every single mile.
    Would love to have one again.
    The Cadillac name plate above the radio is easy to replace.
    The rubber between the headlights and the front bumper are also easy to replace.
    Stripping the crome for a repaint and putting it back on again was something I did at age 25 without no prior experience, and got away with it fine, so this is something nobody should be afraid of doing. It deserves a repaint in the same color.
    Good luck with it.

    So nice. Brown works on that car well. I’ve a ‘73 Coupe DeVille in white, and have tried to keep mine as original as possible also. Good job saving it in stock/original condition.

    I could have bought a Babied Mint Brown1973 Coupe Deville 2-door, with 20k, that was my neighbors from day One. He decided to buy a Olds 98 in 1977, and the dealer would only give him $1000.00 in trade. He offered it to me for that price just so the dealer wouldn't get it. I passed, but i wish i would have bought it. Thanks for the video, it brought back fond memories!

    I'm 14 and I really like these old land yachts. I want one of these (the coupe version) or an 80s Caprice for my first car.

      @101Volts Před 5 lety

      I had an 84 Caprice. 305 engines have a massive reputation for being amazingly reliable but they're not powerful. I tended to get 20 MPG in it. You should probably keep away from the last model year, 1990, since the front seat belts are on the doors. 89s are fine though.

    You're right about '72! I actually stop about 1970 for GM--'71 and on were mere shades of '70 and earlier in quality. In 1998 I bought a '73 Cadillac Calais with 33K miles on it, light yellow with no vinyl top. The Calais took the place of the Series 62 as Cadillac's lower trim level in 1971, but for some reason they were made in far fewer numbers than nthe Series 62--there were only slightly over 3,800 Calais made in '73 vs. 103,000 DeVilles, which appealed to me, plus they have steel tops instead of vinyl and a lower quality interior. I always thought the absence of the vinyl top would have prevented the rear window rustout that '71 and later GM cars were prone to, but apparently not. I could see where the piece across the back underneath the rear window had been fixed and repainted and thought that took care of it. That car took 1st place in its class at the North Texas Cadillac Meet at White Rock Lake in Dallas in 1998. In the early 2000's it was involved in a freak accident on the Baylor campus which damaged the front bumper, ruined the hood and broke the windshield. I got a small settlement from the school but it wasn't enough to fix the $1,800 worth of damage. In the meantime, the rot at the back window was continuing. I sold it to a friend for $1 in addition to him painting my garage and rebuilding a fence. I lost sight of the car for several years, but then found it with another owner a few years ago and the rot had continued into the inside shelf under the rear window, causing leakage into the trunk and making the car virtually useless. It wouldn't have mattered if I hadn't had the wreck at all, it was being eaten alive. The owner asked if I'd like to have it back very cheaply and I said no--it still has less than 50K miles on it, so it's come to a sad end. You're right about all the points of the '73 model year and so glad you were able to save this car as it still looks nice and probably runs good too. It's hard to get that 472 down it was such a good engine and a shame Cadillac deteriorated so much from the late 70's on.

    My grandfather had a maroon one of these. It's funny how you have memories of going places and it seemed half your relatives fit into the car. Maybe they weren't so inefficient after all.

    The '73 Caddy is a such a sex-bomb! I'd install real wire wheels with Wide Whites, Limo tint all around, crack the windows a hair, and play a little 'Show and Tell' by the late Al Wilson, then cruuuuuuise ;)

    Not to be picky, but I wish you had a wind screen on your microphone. The wind gusts made it hard to hear you at times.

      That is the right-side mirror adjustment. These cars had cable-controlled inside mirror adjusters. This was before manufactures were making electric mirror controls.

    • @sherrif1959
      @sherrif1959 Před 7 lety +3

      Thanks for clarifying, never considered the mirror arrangement. Neat and ahead of its time. I assume the cable went all through the dash, and somehow connected with the mirror on the passenger door?

    If your steering is all that "vague" then your steering box is dead or dying.

    So they started with the fender extensions in '73, and smog control , EGR valve and all that B.S. ' 72 is still the better model.
