  • Andrew talks about "THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND" with his good friend and drummer Michael Botts. Then the song plays with images of his friends over the years.
The song rests in many hearts and memories and continues to do so.
"Thank You for Being a Friend" is a song written by Andrew Gold, who recorded it for his third album, All This and Heaven Too. The song reached number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1978.
The song was famously later re-recorded by Cynthia Fee to serve as the theme song for the NBC sitcom The Golden Girls, and recorded again for the series' CBS spin-off The Golden Palace.
The song was also featured as a dedication to the host on Casey Kasem's final American Top 40, broadcast on Fourth of July weekend in 2009; the end of two World Series games (Game 5 in 1988 and Game 4 in 1990); the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" episode "Mac's Mom Burns Her House Down"; the end of Super Bowl XL,; the episode of The Simpsons titled "Double, Double, Boy in Trouble"; and on a May 2010 episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by Betty White, in which past and present cast members sang the song followed by a death metal version of the song performed by White while wearing a ski mask. Elaine Paige and Dionne Warwick released a recording of the song on Paige's duet album Elaine Paige and Friends in 2010. The song was also included in the Wearside Jack tape by someone purporting to be the Yorkshire Ripper.
The song was used in a Lotto ad campaign and contest to award schools in New York money - kids all over the state competed by singing the song and making a video.
It is featured in many ads, tv shows and on CZcams.

This is a great way to do a video, with the brief commentary beforehand. And I really like the title of the album: "All This And Heaven Too"!

I remember Right Between the Eyes by Wax from the 80s, but I didn't know until this year that he was 1/2 of that duo! Love that song. He was also in a band with Karla Bonoff, love her song "Personally." What a loss that Andrew Gold is no longer with us making new music, but his gifts are forever with us in his songs. ❤️

"Final Frontier" which was the theme song to Mad About You was the first human voice ever "heard" on Mars, when it was used as the wake-up call for the Mars Pathfinder space probe in 1996.

There's a mention of the Yorkshire Ripper in the description box, but I heard that it could be Jimmy Savile putting on a Wearside accent because he was an accomplice of Peter Sutcliffe. The Wearside Jack tape doesn't even sound like a Yorkshireman trying to do a Wearside accent. I'd say it's Wearside, alright. Why was this song chosen?

It was John Humble who was eventually convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison in 2008.

***** you can have a thousand songs but only the ones people remember really matter. perhaps we need to create lots of waste and under par stuff in order to get the real diamonds out? but his good ones were exceptional//! God bless you//

***** that's true enough because thee is only so much time in the day..but the charts , and taste usually reflect the feeling of whether a song is good or not. but i havent heard any better or as good from andrew. but his good ones are sooo good, and i guess the mediocre have their place but don't do much for me.
sometimes we don't know when we are producing something amazing, its only when you look back and see with the time// God bless you//

Could tell it was Porcaro on drums. He would have eaten this up with his skill.
