    Can’t think of any metal fabricator that hasn’t ran across this problem. Brilliant solution. Been a subscriber to Matt’s channel for a while. Grateful to Matt for turning me on to your channel as well. I was a welder / fabricator for thirty years. And this would have been handy on a number of projects. Still a fabricator, but now fabricate electrical controllers, for industrial process control.

    Hi Greg,
    as a suggestion, the jacket should be lengthened to extend forward of the cutting bit, say 30 to 50mm, so that the cutting bit maintains good contact with the weld seem right up to the edge of the tube when withdrawing the cutter in use. If the jacket is not extended the last section of weld seem (approx 40mm ) will not be cut properly as the jacket will loose alignment with the tube when being withdrawn.

    I found this tool, and your channel, while watching while watching Matt's video. All I can say is......I'm sold!!!! I definitely need this in my toolbox, and do not have the patience to try making it of wood like Matt did, or the machinery to make it the way you did.

    Recieved my tool. Its awesome. The finish the fit and craftsmanship is SPOT ON... these two guys designed this and if you're thinking of building a 2x72 belt sander this tool will make the fit perfect. Great job gents.

      Just mill a full length groove on the OD of the sliding part and leave the weld seam in.

    A handy tool that does something not easy to do over long lengths, the only other coment is holding the block in the edge of the cnc vice without a support piece at the other side, tightening the vice causes the jaws to twist slightly and you can loose grip on the part and it fly out when milling, not nice, a fright at least or a broken endmill, even personal injury. A simple part to make and on my list of to do items once I get my cnc conversion finished. Thanks for sharing.

    Have removed weld seam in 4 ft long tube with a bushing block with 4 jack screws on all sides. Used a grinding wheel instead of a burr

    Nice lights at the end! 😂 why so many? The dental light looks like an old pelton crane light.
    I might try to 3d print this and maybe the sleeves; I don’t do too much of the slip fits but it seems like a fun project for my channel if I get time. Maybe I’ll add something to the build to make it unique.

      I have 2 Pelton Crane lights hovering over my workbench. They are nice because they slide on rails and I can put them where I need light. I also have 2 Luxo lights. One is a typical drafting lamp and the other is a magnifier. I usually have several projects going, so I like to have lighting set up for filming and for working. I also have a couple more lights that you can't see that are just for shooting videos.

    be careful using gloves around your mill - I had a friend who used to do that and it was no problem for a very long time... until one day he went to flick a chip away from the work and the mill tool caught the very tip of the glove and sliced the skin right off his finger bone. I never saw his injury in person, but his friend in the shop next door said they had to sew what was left of his finger to the finger next to it in order to provide blood flow. I, myself, had my shirt sleeve caught in a drill press once and it nearly broke my wrist (luckily I was able to reach up and hit the emergency stop, but it scared the hell out of me). Great video, just be super careful with those gloves around end mills.

    Im sorry I'm just now seeing this one. Shame on me but I got so far behind on life during the new shop renovation. Another inspiring video. Not just the machining/build aspect but also from the product development aspect. Watching this a few months after the fact and knowing how successful this has been probably adds more appreciation to it.

      Yeah, it's an interesting concept. I could have used this years ago when I was building the trollies I used for moving car bodies around. I have a feeling I'll be using more telescoping tubes in the future.

    Here's an idea to enhance it. Same tool, same plastic block but make both sides of the plastic block very thin. How you shim it side to side to match the seam you are cutting. This will handle off center seams. Once shimmed to line up with the seam, insert the screws to hold the tool & shims in the main block. Now it's a multi seam location tool.....

    Have you considered eliminating the bearings and wood sleeves by just machining a steel rectangular block for each common size of square tubing with multiple holes though the outside perimeter (like the face of a 2-3-4 block) so the burr bit can be moved for different seam orientations. I understand this would require clearing the first inch or two of the seam with a chisel and pushing the tool instead of dragging it.

    Suggestion... do you have enough meat in the jig so you countersink the bottom of the jig, rather than using them as through holes? That way you can use small flathead screws to secure the jacket from the bottom end and you won't have to countersink the jacket. Since most of your force is going to be away from the burr, I don't think you'd need the side holes.

    kit of pre-milled nylatron, UHMW, or other plastics to 'shim' the main aluminum tool body would round out the product offering. Then; no need for any wood shims to orient and retain the burr against the weld penetration in the rect tube. Perhaps a series of strips that need to be added to one side or the other of the tool's "shim package" would make most sense. Wrap the entire bundle, No-Seams Tool, plastic shims with a packing tape wrapper?

      You can use a round dowel to create the "sleeve" and deburr round tubing with this design.

    I bought one, but for the first place I need to use it, I already see an issue. This device is designed to be used on the pull stroke, but the piece of 2.5" tubing I need to remove welding from is already welded in place and I don't have access to the far side. I only need to remove the seam for the first 6" and there's more than 12" of tubing. I'll try making a jacket for the full 6" with a ramp in the slot at the end. Slide them in separately, then pull the device through the jacket.

    I thing this is an excellent idea. I like it so much I have copied your concept on one I just built. I like your design however I changed mine a bit and want to share the idea with you. I made mine from a piece of 1" aluminum round stock. I kept all of your design except the material shape. In order to use the round design all you have to do is drill a 1" hole in a piece of wood with a Forstner bit versus the dado slot. If I knew of a way to send a picture I would. I have been breaching the weld out on the press using the smaller stock and a piece of HS steel method. This method provided mixed results and was much more difficult.
    I build the round version on the milling machine securing the stock vertically in a v block in the vise. The biggest challenge is reorienting the stock to complete the bottom side once the first side is machined. I first drilled a 5/16 hole through to stock then used a 5/8 end mill to make the hole for the bearing. I then flipped it over and indicated he hole on the opposite side to position it. This was the most difficult and time consuming part was indicating a 5/16 hole to reorient the 5/8 hole on the bottom. I can see where it would be much more easier and faster to align it if it were square but it can be done
    Thanks for the inspiration, I am in no way saying that your design is flawed I just think for me the round hole is easier that a square hole. Try it if you want I think you will like it.

    The aim is to make telescoping tubes, why not use the inner tube as the jacket? Cutoff grinder to adapt tube for the 2.0 cutter.

      HA! I hadn't thought of it that way... Sometimes you get so focused on a thing that you miss an obvious solution... I'll scratch my head a little bit on this one. Most of the fabricators who are going to use this are capable of welding, so if we provided a weldable U that fit snug around the tool, the user could cut a ~3/4 chunk out of the inner tubing and weld the U piece in and Bob's your uncle! I just have to work through the attachment which should be pretty straight forward. THANKS!!!

    Looking for a file to attack welded seam or square tubing brought me to you. I’ve subscribed and I have question about cheap 3D printer looks like you eBay link is old & I didn’t find printer. I’m going to buy your tool for seams very soon but I’ve been looking into also getting a 3D printer to use with a planish hammer for aluminum. Have you ever looked into that? Anyway can you suggest a substitute for your cheap 3D printer for this beginner ….. also beginner fusion 360

    Make the jacket longer and have the burr tool recessed in the jacket this would let you go all the way thru to remove the seam.

    Why not umhm plastic jackets? Probably got the UmHm wrong, but it is hard, slippery plastic that can be worked with wood tools.

      The prototype was made by hand out of wood. The CNC handled multiple revisions and refinements of the design. You're seeing the prototype of the actual manufacturing process. There is a difference in proof-of-concept and proof-of-process... I probably don't do a great job of explaining that difference in the video simply because it's not a vital detail of the story.

    Your store link is already crashed so you may be making more of these than you’d planned 😂. What I’d suggest is also making the sleeves as a set out of HDPE or whatever would machine easily. We can all make wooden ones but I’d rather buy and be done.EDIT maybe 3D print the sleeves instead of machining.

      The tools are at anodize right now. They are hoping to have them back to me next Friday, Nov 6. If they get them to me then, I will start shipping the following week. The last couple months the anodizer has been running about 4 weeks, but I asked them to rush this one. If they can't rush it, we are looking around Thanksgiving. I sent a mass email to everyone who ordered about 2 weeks ago with an update. It may have gotten trapped in spam or junk.

      We are scheduled for a 6-8 week production time. The pre-sale ended 9/7, so we should ship late Oct / Early Nov. We still have a few slots left if you did not make the pre-order.

    make the sleeve longer with a hook/heel and you don't need the screws (for the sleeve) when pulling the tool trough the pipe/tube

      I agree.
      Also if it sticks out ahead of the burr it will be easier to start if you wanted to push instead of pull. Maybe you don;t need the whole length done?

    Watching you run that machine with those gloves is like watching a homeless guy drive a Ferrari. Yeah, I’m sure they’re comfortable but c’mon. 😁
    Also, nice solution to a common problem. I’ve cut 1” thick steel squares, threaded a center hole and silver soldered a hss blade along one edge. Length of all thread and a driver gets it done. I think your method works quite a bit faster and less bullish.

    Ok how many crashes?
    When i worked in a machine shop everything was programed on a punch tape you feed into the machine.
    I got the pleasure bit of sarcasm to watch the mill department Forman doing a set up once after feeding the computer the program hed forgotten to change the vertical stops on a monarch mill the head plowed down at the table with the tool holder and crashed causing in 1979 1980s prices 10k worth of dammagd to one of our 4 machines. That wasn't the only crash I've seen ive seen lath operators run the cutter head into the chuck on a manul lathe or crash a cnc lathe. The poor repair guy was always working his ass off fixing shit.
    It happens in a large job shop.
    This is a pretty neat tool this guy came up with. It works dam good. My idea would havd milled the weld out and braced to outside back open by welding bars on then adding nuts to hold your lock downs for what he was using it for.
    But it could be used for an adjustable height setting work bench or tool top.

    Seems like a shaft coupling and an appropriate rod could make this useful for much longer lengths than the basic drill extension by using fewer couplings. Though at some point it might become easier to leave the sleeve and bur stationary and slide the tubing (just "thinking out loud")..... BTW I may have missed it, but what size threads were tapped?

      Second thought: attach an electric motor to the burr's shaft and send the whole thing down the tube.... this could have a lot of potential uses.....

    Finally got past the bandwidth page and Norton says "Known Malicious Site" I would like the tool only as I already have the burr and extension. But going to a not just suspected but Known malicious site is not a good idea. WHAT GIVES

    Why don't you just use seemless square tubing?

      In some cases it's not readily available as most suppliers carry a large variety of cold rolled ERW tubing and only a few variations of DOM. Also the cost of DOM can be well above the cost of cold rolled. To get a truly seamless tube, you're getting into Cold Drawn tubing $$$.

    This in your house? Do you have 440 3 phase. Whats your compressor?
    Dam must be nice to have a cnc mill to play with do you have a lathe also.
    First one prototype second one refine tool. Third one production tool.
    To make money you need a fixture to hold 10 to 100 parts at a time. Do all oprations to each side then turn.
    You could knock out 10 000 a week. Give or take a few. Figure time labor supply and power used tool price xxx with a profit of xxx. Shipping set price 9.95 ups.
    Print labels have pickups once a week.
    Sell on Amazon. PayPal charge card ex...
    If you make 100 the last bunch sold out fast.
    Thats better then doing one at a time.
    You could almost mill bar stock then part them out without a fixture.
