      You are right. I had to go back and listen again. For some reason I took it to mean 100% mechanical not 100% efficient. I think there is little question that mechanical is more efficient than hydraulic but nothing is 100% efficient.

    2:51 Don’t let their wording deceive you when they say “100% mechanical efficiency” that’s doesn’t mean the transmission is 100% efficient. It’s more like it’s 100% of its maximum efficiency and its maximum efficiency is definitely not 100% ‘energy’ efficient (for lack of a better word).

      @@connerbrandl5103think of a solid shaft. An engine rotates that shaft at 100rpm. That shaft then rotates a pulley at 100rpm. Since the shaft is solid and both turn at the same speed it’s 100% mechanical efficient. Same concept here once they match speeds they are 100% mechanically efficient

      You would think so, but several tests have shown that it's the most effecient CVT in total. Some CVT's will win this in some area's of speed, but overall the Fendt Vario will win.

    The think apart from being so expensive if this transmission fails I dislike most, is the fact you are no longer being challenged to become a great driver. Nowadays you just hold the throttle, thats it. Where is the challenge into mastering the skills of driving? Quite boring to be honest.

      Constant Variable Transmission.

    • @bartdereu
      @bartdereu Před 6 lety +4

      It's not using a belt and a variator like you know. It uses a variable hydraulic pump and motor to change the speed of the outer ring of the planetary gear. That way, mechanical power transmission goes from 0-100% in the range .(0% at start, 100% at full speed of that range). When it shifts to another range, it starts again in that range from 0% mechanical to 100% mechanical. Therefor , you can drive at 8km/u 100% mechanical , but at 9km /h only 10% mechanical. In a fendt vario , the procent mechanical power transmission is constantly increasing with it's speed, according to on of the two ranges (0-25 or 0-50 kmu)

      some cars have cvt but I suspect in trucks expense and reliability issues would be the 2 biggest reasons, another issue could be the truck slowing down too much when the transmission is trying to find the most efficient speed? if the truck maintained the speed or flow of traffic any efficiency that might have been gained is lost?
