    He's a fuckin Beast , no matter how fast he played you can always hear his kit clearly. He never sounded messy or jumbled together. That's not easy, it's was like each hit was perfectly spaced apart. Even though he was one the heaviest hitting drummers on the planet.

    This actually has to be one of the most hardest songs to play on drums. I`ve been playing drums for 8 years and can do double bass pretty much perfect, but the double bass is insane, especially the end bit which vinnie plays is the toughest, you have to be spot on otherwise it sounds like shit. \m/

    • @andrew_mcnevin
      @andrew_mcnevin Před 2 lety +14

      I’ve been playing for about 27 years… I can do every Pantera song EXCEPT this one. I thought I knew how to play it (alternating each foot), but then I paid close attention to this clip and noticed that his left foot is keeping time and that his right foot is doing most of the work. I discovered that about 15 years ago and can still only play the pattern correctly at half speed. The dude was a monster! And it’s funny, if you mention Becoming around a Meshuggah fan, they will mention the song “Bleed” as being harder to play… and it is insanely hard. Buuuuut, Tomas Haake talks about Bleed in an interview and mentions how he alternates instead of the VP left-foot-keep-time approach. I thus conclude Becoming to be harder. Especially the last 15 seconds or so. I would go out on a limb and say that only 5% of drummers could do it.

    The physical motion the beaters go through is the same, Bleed is slightly faster, for a longer duration, and in a much more complicated song structure.

    I slowed it down to 0.3x the speed to corroborate by myself that what i said was right: on 0:37 you can see him playing constant notes with his left foot, and using his right foot to intercalate a 32th note just before and after the left foot, resulting in this way: RLR L RLR L RLR L (repeat). of course this is not very appreciable, because he plays all this at 230bpm.

    @zhillsdaniel Thats nice, but don't forget that its polyrythmic.. over 3 bars the accents land in different places. Plus bleed is a groove not a lick. Drumming is about HOW you play it.. the feel, not what you play (how complicated it is). And Haake plays it as groovin as Stubblefield would for James Brown.

  • @badrandom3rd
    @badrandom3rd Před 13 lety

    @warlockmetal1 When's the last time you listened to Bleed? Bleed is definitely faster, albeit slightly. The way Becoming is set up you're playing a 4/4 pattern, for a relatively short period of time. Bleed is initially constant huertas meaning your feet are playing 3/4 and your hands are playing 4/4. This means that you have to completely separate your hands from your feet mentally because they don't follow a pattern until 12 bars later. Not to mention the ghost notes on the snare in Bleed.
