The Price Is Right (Australia) - Farewell Show for 2012 (19 Dec 2012)

- OK - this most recent series of the show was fairly widely panned by both critics and the public alike, but this final episode of the 1st and only season of the revamped "The Price Is Right" does give some credit to the hard-working crew, and Larry Emdur once again shows what a pro he is when it comes to hosting game shows, good and bad. A fitting finish is on the cards with some game wins, fun amongst the cast and crew and to top things off, a showcase win.
This version of TPIR is one game show i certainly don't miss. There was a double-sided laundry list of things wrong with it
- Crap announcer
- Somewhat tacky-looking set
- No contestants row
- CHEAP prizes
- It was more like a glamourised Big W informericial with the RIDICULOUS amount of product placement for Big W
- Really? They played for $3,000 SHOPPING SPREES AT BIG-EFFING-W???!!!
- No cars during pricing games
- A pointless 40 second time limit for locking in showcase items
- The grand prize was a Nissan Micra (i.e. a small 4-cylinder hatch worth under $20,000 that'll only be worth a few grand in 10 years time)
- No holidays up for grabs on the first show, or even during the first week
- The cheap prizes made it too easy
- The atmosphere was quite flat compared to the old show
- The showcases only had 6 items and were usually only worth around $25k or so
- Even the music and sound effects were cheap and tacky. It might as well have been a parody of TPIR
It's surprising that the show lasted 7 months, i guess they had to keep it on long enough for Big W to make plenty of prophets from it haha. The only things i liked about it were Larry being kept on as host and the tribute to Ian Turpie on the first show. RIP Turps
People all over the world like the classic cues and original music - fonts - logo, etc. Bring back the real The Price Is Right.

I think Larry is a GREAT host. He should host the American version. Sadly, this version of Price Is Right was done before in the USA back in 1994, and it didn't last long. But really, BRING LARRY TO THE USA and HOST OUR VERSION!!!!

I'm well aware that MDWOF was on Nine, I was just comparing their runs. And even though I'm American, the only good Aussie game show on right now is "Deal or No Deal" (I'm not a fan of "Millionaire Hot Seat"). But to me, the best game to come from Down Under was "Sale of the Century" ("Temptation" was all right, too).

Million Dollar Wheel of Fortune which was Channel Nine's lame attempt of the show whilst it was rested by Seven.
A $1000 shopping spree and $1300 in exercise equipment. What horrible prizes. And could they put that Big W logo on anything else?

Note that Million Dollar Wheel of Fortune was on Nine, not Seven, for its five week run.
However, Edmur's previous Price is Right was on Nine when it was decent, but this version on Seven...ugh...

It's a shame that this version went off the air. Larry seems to be a good host. He did pretty well when he came to visit Drew Carey on the American set.
This version was widely panned because it strayed way too far away from the version that Larry Emdur previously hosted. Not to mention the prizes awarded for winning a pricing game were all ridiculously cheap, and were almost entirely limited to products you could buy at Big W, a discount department store. It also got rid of Contestant's Row, which essentially eliminated the One Bid, which is essentially the heart of the show.
That's the thing with Australian television: it's really a hit or a miss with programmes, especially local adaptations of foreign game shows, and especially revivals of game shows that previously aired on Australian networks. Wheel of Fortune is another example. Big Brother is another one (both the ones that aired on Nine and Seven, but especially the latter).

Horrible version. Was a big fan of the 90's and 00s version but this one leaved little to be desired. Got audience tickets but passed.
Not even Doug davidson or John burgess could fix this version it was more like a Big W game show that used the price is right name should of called it the Big W challenge
Personally, I would have canned this show after a month or so. I mean, they cancelled "Million Dollar Wheel of Fortune" (which I felt wasn't THAT bad) after only five weeks, but they let this show last seven months.

Fuck no! This “revamped” version of TPIR was cheap, tacky and all around shit! They were giving away showcases worth more than $30K back in the late 90s. Even a blind and deaf person could see this was just a giant ad for Big W. I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did.
