The Quran contains several verses that affirm the land of Israel/Canaan as the promised land for the Children of Israel:

So according to the Quran, the land of Israel was divinely granted to the Israelites by Allah as a permanent inheritance, affirming the biblical promise. This contradicts the view that Jewish presence in Israel is a recent "Western invasion" without religious basis.

Israel allowed the Islamic Waqf, under Jordanian custodianship, to retain administrative control over the Temple Mount/Haram al-Sharif compound after capturing it in the 1967 Six-Day War for a few key reasons:
To avoid inflaming religious tensions and provoking a broader conflict with the Muslim world over control of one of Islam's holiest sites.
As part of the "status quo" policy established by then-Defense Minister Moshe Dayan, which gave the Waqf day-to-day management of the site while Israel maintained overall security control. This was intended to defuse the site as a nationalist flashpoint while allowing Muslim religious activity to continue.
Dayan believed granting the Waqf religious sovereignty over the mount would placate Muslim demands and keep the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on a territorial-national level rather than a religious one between Judaism and Islam.
Israel's official position has been to leave the Waqf in charge of the Islamic holy sites, in line with commitments made in the 1994 peace treaty with Jordan which recognized Jordan's custodianship over Muslim holy places in Jerusalem.
Allowing Waqf administration prevented Israel from being seen as an occupying power over the third holiest site in Islam, which could have sparked widespread violence and opposition from the Muslim world.
