There have only been 17 recorded cases of a Hammerhead attacking a human in the last 500 years. Zero fatalities however.
Their prey choice is very different from that of most other sharks. They eat stingrays, crustaceans, and bottom dwelling fish/squid. Their prey is used to hiding from them in the sand or close to the ocean floor. They have evolved to find and dig the prey out or cut the prey off from darting into a crevice. Chasing down prey is not their typical hunting style so they need not be so aggressive. Their prey is also usually small, so they have small mouths and teeth that cannot injure humans too badly. They really want to have nothing to do with humans, so if they are left alone they'll usually ignore you.
